He is but I think it’s kinda to troll Ryan. Some fans like to say Haney is more Mexican than Ryan because like a lot of Mexican fighters Devin got his start in Mexico. Bill would take Devin to Mexico and that’s where he cut his teeth as a novice. Ryan doesn’t speak Spanish and “quit” in the tank fight so he kinda goes against the stereotype of a “Mexican boxer”.

So typically whenever guys miss weight the fighter has to forfeit a percentage of their pay to their opponent. It could easily end up being hundreds of thousands. Usually we’re only talking about someone being off by .5 pound and or 1.5 pounds. 3 pounds is crazy. Some fighters wouldn’t even fight if their opponent missed by that much. For Ryan Haney accepted. The contract quickly gets adjusted and renegotiated then boom fights still on.

lol I thought the same thing until I realized this was actually a ceremonial weigh in. Real weigh ins happened earlier in the day and wasn’t opened to the public. Ceremonial weigh ins are basically a public event to help hype up the fight.

To me Ryan’s been acting like someone who wants/needs to make the biggest bag as quick as possible. It would fit with the rumor that Ryan has a gambling problem and is known to lose millions on private poker games.
