This track grew on me. First time was confusion, then i sort of stopped listening to Devin for week then listened to this track again and was like FUUUUUCCCCKKK
I watched the video immediately once it was uploaded (woke up at an ungodly hour to do so) and it blew my fucking mind. The man is on a whole different level, this song shouldn't be able to exist in the way it does. I'm fairly certain had anyone else even attempted to do something like Genesis it would have sounded like an absolute mess, but somehow Devy took complete chaos, harnessed it and fused it together into something cohesive and amazing.
He is a musical genius, blessed with a natural voice that he, ON HIS OWN, has taken above perfection and is a fucking glorious entertainer to boot. It all comes together as possibly the greatest artist of all time.
I have had Genesis on repeat since it dropped and I am in now way even close to being done with it. the more you listen to it the more you discover and I am loving every second! CANNOT WAIT for the album!
i have to say this, i know we (the Devin Fanbase) tend to be a little bit hysterical but in all objectivity, who does this kind of music nowadays with so much craftiness, so much skilled in every bit of the process. And yeah you made a very good point, it has the power of Bohemian Rhapsody. One day people will understand how magnificient this guy is.
and the beauty of this is this isn't the longest song on the album. he's got track 10 on the album running about 22 minutes long broken into 6 individual but linkable parts... additionally Devy has claimed Chad Kroger will be doing vocals on track 6 on the album too... the whole thing is going to be balls out insane... This is essentially Devy's midlife crisis and it's going to be an absolute fucking sonic juggernaut to behold and I cannot wait!
No suddenly we’re more accepting of him because he prevented Devin from going down the pathway he wound up going down with Nickelback and selling out. He told Devin he had to be true to himself and his music or his fans would recognize he wasn’t sincere in the music and hate it. Empath EXISTS because Chad told Devin to follow his heart with his music. THAT is why we’re willing to give him a chance on this record
@@heavymetalrybakina I mean... I can understand him. He has the potential to earn some serious money by going more mainstream and he has a family. I don't think we can put ourselves in that spot and understand the pressure without being there. Also, Devin discovered that Chad never sold out. Chad is making the music he is passionate about, and it just happens to be what we perceive as watered down country rock. For Devin, it's cosmic opera ambient prog metal or whatever you want to call whatever he is doing. I wouldn't blame Devin for wanting to earn some big amounts of cash compared to all the work he puts in after all these years, but I'm glad he decided not to go down that road
@@toxendon Devin is a very strange case. Nearly always bands that sell out create garbage, but somehow this guy makes great music even when pressured to do what he doesn't want to do. I understand that he has financial worries, but Empath was supposed to be a statement about artistic independence, not selling out. Yet, the song Genesis simply lacks the kind of emotional depth I'm used to from Townsend and I even find it commercial in some sense, because it's so cheesy and easy to listen to. Maybe the album will be great as a whole, but that one song is just timid and child-like, and not in a good way. As for Chad never selling out, couldn't agree less. He absolutely did sell out, his entire career has been about making money, which is so obvious.
Hell yeah man I'm just as excited as you are. I genuinely have played DevinTownsend everyday for the past 2 years. If not everyday every chance I could I would (:
At first I was a little dismayed by the song, when I first heard it. This is my third time listening to it and it has grown on me. I am really intrigued about where this is all going.
Hey there! I really enjoy your reactions! Want to suggest you to watch "Ghost Brigade - Clawmaster" since you like Insomnium and Wolfheart stuff. Unfortunately this finnish band in fact doesn't exist anymore but their 4 albums are brilliant in my opinion!
How did you have his video overlaid on yours? I did that and RU-vid blocked it for audiovisual copyright so I just have the music for the album, no video
It's like he vomited his brain juice on a spinning fair art and seven minutes later this! The video idea encapsulates this notion for me with constant everchanging bombardment of visual representations of mood swings and style shifts and the ants walking on your brain as he incorporates several styles into cohesion with Genesis. The Freedom of an Artist to risk and create his own vision should not be lost on us. Its very Meta to react to his own creation. Fuck Yea!
Hey man. Great review. Check out Kabbalah and the concept of receiving love from the bestower. There's so much symbolism in this video - it's insane. If you enjoy the music, you'll definitely be intrigued to know what the visuals are saying.
Hey dude. been watching your channel for a while now. You rock. but I'm really sad to say this... Devin rocks even more!! haha. you'll get it. Devin... He's just one special guy who knows how to play fucking awsome music full of himself, and just don't give a shit about what others thinks of it:) It's like beeing on a journy with a genious crazy guy, who also seems to be a perfectionist. Love this guy! oooouuuups. Just figuired out that I'm not subbing to your chanel:/ well... Now I am:) sorry.. Haha. Hellos from Norway coming your way right now.
This is the first time I ever heard Devin Townsend, but wow, this song was Epic. It reminds me of meatloaf and Christopher Lee....Yes, even Christopher Lee had a Metal Band. I'll Throw a suggestion for you as well: Maximum The Hormone - Maximum The Hormone (Full Video) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MmfUyyUL07A.html
My day 1 of Devin Townsend is today. (Saw my first video of his at 1am.) Crying demonic tears of pure fucking energy. (The last thing I am is Sad) HAIL CANADA!!! Hail Devin, and Hail the GalacticCriminal!!
