I am 64 years old and when this song was released I was a teenager. I aged but What's Going On is younger than ever. Devon Gilfillian made a great and dignified interpretation.
I listen to this often, and every time I do, I forget how perfect it is. The combination of voices and instruments are like listening to pure happiness. I can't believe how little people know of this song, and this version especially.
This album, songs, say so much for the times we are living in. Thanks, for your gifts and talents to re record these Marvin Gaye songs. Awesome! Great job!
My friend & brother Devon, thank you for sharing your talent. Your music brings happiness to this world and everyone in it. I look forward to seeing you & your band on Tour in the future.
I thank God for CNN's special. Idk if I would've ever come to know who Devon Gilfillian is👊🏽 I'm loving your Marvin Gaye's covers🥰 He is my favorite all time artist!!! I bought his "What's Goin' On" album when it 1st came out & played it so much it turned white & I had to get another one. I remember ALL the words to ALL the songs on that album.
Marvin Gaye's masterpiece is timeless. Bravo to Devon Gilfillian for undertaking this sensitive and stunning tribute to Marvin's genius. Twice the message needing, now more than ever, to be re-heard and re-listened to!
Devon - You did this while I sat at home, on my ass, scared...here with the full band and masks. Just now I saw you on NAMM 2021 - virtually from home. I say Responsible-Respecting-Upholding people are those with lives that matter. Play beautiful - Sing glory! -R
I love this song. Too many African-Americans fought against racism and lost their lives. But I understand that fight against racism was one answer then. Through that fight, many American of European-descent understood racism was wrong. But I know violence calls violence. It's not final answer. We got to find way.

Trying to recreate or duplicate the work of a legend can be frustrating and embarrassing. Because it's impossible to rise to their level of craftsmanship, as is with this song.
