Travis seems like a fool the first time you see him, but if you analyze his training, his psychology at the table and his setup you realize that he is super intelligent. Devon does the same things in the setup that Travis did. He also learned his trash talk from Travis, in fact he uses several of his phrases.

@aleccummings866
@aleccummings866 Месяц назад
Agreed, I believe Devon underestimated raw power. With superheavyweights you simply need raw power along with the armwrestling specific strengths of pronation/rise/cup/elbow integrity
@Bililz
@Bililz Месяц назад
@@aleccummings866you guys keep saying this. But the only person to beat him are Genadi (and this was VERY close) and levan. All of the SHWs go crazy on the raw lifts. Not just Levan. Why is it none of them can beat Devon then? The reason why he lost to levan is simply because levan is just that much stronger than Devon in every lane. That's it. He doesn't need to do bench. He just needs to get stronger in those avenues he lost at. Benching won't get him any better. All the other SHWs are much stronger than him in all those compound gym lifts. If I where to guess Devon is probably lacking in more dynamic armwrestling movements. But again, I'm just speculating, he would know better after his lose, and I'm sure he analyzed the reason he lost now.
@mrga5098
@mrga5098 Месяц назад
@@Bililz thats because devon uses a very specific style that targets most of his energy to crack someones wrist back and if he must go inside he will do a very deep deep shoulder lock. For an normal armwrestler even bench is important because you need a strong peck for side pressure, you need rows and pullups for backpressure and you need strong biceps, bracialis and bracioradialis to transfert that backpressure to the table. If devon was strong in those lifts he would for sure have more power besides just having that static hand pressure but he didnt really need it for most guys like denis and ermes and georgi because none of them could deal with his setup and strong hand. But t obeat a guy like levan you just need all of those components strong, only hand wont beat him, but why to bother anyway, of course there are usually people better than you and devon found his limit which is completly normal

Remember, devon's training is made for him, a superheavyweight, the category where no one really just cups you in at the start of a match. When you're in a 70,80,even 90 kg category these small things get overshadowed by the sheer ratio of cupping to backpressure that lower weights typically have, so just take these tips with a grain of salt.

I don't think Devon was actually referring to pure grip strength, but rather having a good (deep) grip on the opponent's hand so that when they hit you can put the brakes on better by being able to pronate through their hands better (think of trying to pick up a dumbbell, and over deepening your grip so that when you pick it up and the force is applied on your hand, the amount of grip on it you lose is just enough to put you in the right spot).
@OlafLand
@OlafLand Месяц назад
Keeping a deep grip on your opponent would rely on grip strength more than anything else. There's only so deep you can reach around someone's hand before you have to clamp down..
@zaryol2338
@zaryol2338 Месяц назад
@@OlafLand That's like saying grip strength is the main difference between being able to pick up 50kg with a dumbbell hammer vs 50kg with a pinch block, when the main thing making it easy is the actual handle you're gripping on
@AdamLighter1
@AdamLighter1 Месяц назад
He is talking about grip specifically, not a deep grip. If you grip hard, you may lose rising and cupping, but you keep your finger flexion and the opponent cant capitalize on the advantage by regripping, because you keep his hand tied to you by gripping, thus not allowing the oponnent to make the skin movem
@JordanSouthpawLandry
@JordanSouthpawLandry Месяц назад
Absolutely 100% Grip in the straps is actually more effective than cup because grip with ANY hand control allows tou to fight with your wrist back while staying connected. On top of that the ability to rise is diminished. This is why mmt in Wal said he adjusted his kings move against devon with a clamping kings so rising was stopped. Ive been telling people this for a year or two. Strap fundamentals are always squeeze/grip, lat drag wrist flexion.

@samk2407 Месяц назад
If you have no side pressure and you're always starting out in an open sweeping toproll and your cupping is already world class and the only reason you ever hook is if they press you and give you hand control. Yes grip is more important than cup. Otherwise eh, I don't think so. I think it might be more accurate to say that there's diminishing returns on cupping and at a certain point you should shift to training more grip once you're already at a certain level with your cup.

When I was getting my black belt in kenpo one of the basic tenants was: control the hand- control the arm ... I had never really thought of this in an arm wrestling context, but yeah it makes perfect sense, if you can overpower their hand you can force the wrist out of alignment and make them engage you with their leverage all out of whack, and as long as you keep hold of them (which they kind of have too) and have control, they can't really fight it... Very interesting!
@AustinAlexander151
@AustinAlexander151 Месяц назад
I say grip strength is one of the best things to train for arm wrestling because before a match, you need to be able to get a strong grip so that your don’t slip and not rely on so much chalk to keep your hands drier to grip harder, another reason why it is important is because when your in a match you take little breaks in between and regrip and have better hand control.

I kinda agree but I think the cup is just as important, maybe not for Devon who has such long leavers and fingers. The cup and fingers will help you control the persons hand, and it will enable you to use your strengths more. You might have the best pronation in the world but if your hand is weak you won’t get the chance to express it.. you need good back pressure too.
@Mr.Gloomy
@Mr.Gloomy Месяц назад
In my humble opinion, cupping depends haevily on your grip. There's no point into being able to curl your opponent if your fingers can't even hold them. Some opponents attack your fingers directly to open your wrist. So yeah, grip is pretty important, again in my opinion.

Devon has been saying the same things in his seminars for the last 2 years. Then these channels make out like it's some new thing 😂 Devon has never said there is one fundamental strength (except perhaps rising). He explains why rise, pronation, supination, cup, grip and press are important for different situations on the table. If you're rise for rise then supination is most important to get over the top. If you're getting cupped in then most important is pronation and back pressure. It's always situational. People really get Devons training and philosophies confused.

When you can squeeze your opponent hand not only solidifies your position, but increases the distance of your hand from the center of the hands(making It harder to Cup you) and at the Same time reduce the amount of space the opponent can get from the center of the hands, making him easier to Cup. Just try pulling someone in the straps and make him squeeze so much, It would make It so akward to pull him
