I knew that it was the Forget Me Not flower and I have always wondered why they called it Wavyleaf Sea Lavender in the game. Because whenever you pull a Xavier 5 star memory, you will see the Forget Me Not flowers. So, I am not crazy then... I hope they change it really soon, because the meaning for the Forget Me Not flowers relates to Xavier's lore so much.
in defense of the translator... As a translator myself I often come across cases here the person who ask for the translation expressly requests for the wrong terminology for "coherency". Also if the company changed translators, then perhaps the new translator made a mistake by correcting the name. There are many situations that might have hapened. Regardless, the company should have corrected it from the moment the users started pointing it out in waves but I guess they forgot (pun intended)
It's not just a localization error... The Chinese name is wrong too. But it's a relatively common practice to call leaf sea lavender "Forgot me not" and sell them as forget me not in China... The game ended up confusing the two from the very beginning
At this point I don't think they'll change the name, they probably would choose to stick with it since the name "星辰花” (leaf sea lavender) has been in Xavier's promotion since day 1. The meaning of those two flowers are basically the same.
I wouldn't say the Chinese name is wrong because to them, 星辰花 is interchangable with forget-me-not. It is like the case for 计算机, where outside of China, it refers to calculator but in China, it refers to computer (for example, their China Computer Federation is named 中国计算机学会 and not 中国电脑学会. Would you say they confused 计算机 with 电脑, and thus their usage of 计算机is wrong? No, because in their context, it is correct. This is also why localization and not merely direct translation is needed here to make things right. CN side is not wrong to use 星辰花 because in their context, it is correct. What's wrong is the localization team not taking this context into account and simply taking the name at face value.
I was wondering! In his bday event there is a whole thing about it. I thought the wavyleaf was also a made up name and was wondering why they would have 'sea' in the name when it doesn't really represent him. Damn... The EN community will probably not get anything they ask, we make a very small portion of their revenue. They seem just as bad as genshin in listening to EN fans by the looks of it u_u

Dont know if you need it but might as well lolol -Add more place (feature) to farm for resources and diamonds -better banner management -better translations, xavier's flower is forget-me-not, infold! -more varieties of outfits and hairstyles -add more free rewards (usually also referring to resources, diamonds etc)
Before, I was tempted to learn Chinese and join an animation studio there for a job but rn I’ll learn it if they don’t take any measures for the transition🥴🙃
To make this even more confusing, in the latest Drifting Lights video for Xavier's birthday they also seem to have what looks like actual wavyleaf sea lavender in it, along side forget-me-nots lol. So he has multiple flowers? Plus whatever flower's in his gacha animation (the pistil shape and petal count is different from forget-me-nots).
I can understand once maybe twice but like how much can this happen before a team has to start really checking their localization Also the flower has a very interesting background
I’d give them a pass for this one cause who would’ve guessed that different languages use different names for two flowers that your language calls by the same name (in Japanese, they also translated to the flower スターチス which is wavy leaf lavender, instead of 忘れな草, forget me not)? Translators might not even have the picture of the flowers to realize they need to call them forget-me-nots than wavy leaf lavender. But if we can mass email to change it to the correct terminology, we should jump on that as well
Omg! and I thought I was going crazy! So it really is a forget-me-not flower!!! I‘m confused by the hair color though, to me it looks dirty blonde not silver. Sylus‘ hair looks more like silver honestly…
I don't know much about flowers and honestly I also thought the wavy leaf sea lavender was a made up flower 😭 until I googled it and and then it looked different from the ones in game so ended up confused
So sad that they messed this up. Any time you get a 5star pull for Xavier you see the flower - how did they manage to get it so wrong?? Funny - as I'm watching your video I open LADS and Xavier's birthday call comes through (freaky)... he's subconsciously sad because they screwed with his flower...😫 OMG - he says the wrong flower name at the end of the Celestial Message memory (that's like a slap in the face)
While I would never explicitly advocate for someone to lose their job, someone definitely needs a write up, a strong talking to, and perhaps a transfer. (Btw, "iirc" is "if i recall correctly")
Xavier is my favorite. Personally, i don't think this is such a big deal. The meaning of the flower and the story does add to more depth. But to me the loss is not that much. There are other issues I would rather the devs deal with first.
how are you a Xavier main and completely chill with such a big issue!? Other LIs flowers are not mistranslated, otherwise they'd take issue too. Yet here you are denying the issue 🙂
@@manikas-whimsI am not denying there's a bobo with translations. I do take translations and localisation seriously, not just with the LIs but also with every part of the game, including announcements. Translation can be very difficult at times because culture is not easy to translate. I have experienced super horrible translations before, that may be why I do not set very high standards for between cultures as different as East Asian and Western. As long as most of the general meaning and ideas are understood, I am fine with it. In this case, not knowing the flower meaning or story does not change player's perception or understanding of the character etc. That information adds more depth, yes, but not a lot. So I do not consider it that much of a loss. That doesn't mean I do not want better translations and localisation, or mistakes to be rectified. This game have a number of issues. What's the number 1 issue you would choose to fix? For me it would not be translations, I would want the devs to let players know what banners are upcoming sooner.
