Dew or Frost on Telescope??? How to properly dry and store your astronomy equipment!!! 

Great video and important topic for sure. Temps about to dip below zero here in New England tonight so the dew heaters are making first debut of the season. Amazing scopes those FSQ’s on my wish list. First light tonight for my WO FLT 91.

very good video iam sure this will help alot people out. I have observed in -25C i dont recall if they frosted up or not though.

I have learned concerning dew, if an eyepiece dews up you can swing it in your hand (if you dare to do so) back and forth with the lens side forward and it will dry the dew off. Its like blowing cold air on the lens. I try to keep my eyepiece case with the lid down so the dew forms on the case and not on the interior. I place the cap back on my refractors when I enter the house.

Problem with dew it is possible to attract dust so make sure your drying area is clean. I live in the desert and not even my iced tea gets dew on it usually. Rainy season here is Summer, but it doesn't seem to get humid very often and even then it's like 50% and then it's gone. Suppose it goes over to Texas/Oklahoma and makes them wonder why it's humid when it hasn't rained for two months.

Poll: Dew strap on the OTA tube just below the extended dew shield, or on the extended Dew Shield itself in line with the lens cell? I'm getting varying opinions form club members. I'm new to the refractor game, just bought an SVX130T. Having it on the OTA tube just below the dew shield seems to make more sense because the idea is to warm the air inside the OTA, right? Coming over from an SCT, this is how I always positioned my dew strap. Of course, the corrector plate on an SCT is a lot thinner when compared to all that glass up front on the refractor. I'm not sure how well the heat transfer would be.

Really this video had nothing to do with dew and frost. It was just an excuse to flex those sick Takahashi’s. 😉
