I use the fixed-base DeWalt for my dovetail jig and the Bosch plunger for mortises, etc. Love both but much prefer the plunge base on the Bosch compared to the DeWalt plunge base. I just wish dust collection was better on the Bosch.

I think it's an old issue that's been solved. I have 4 618 motors and they are working great. Really not any plunge router on the market that's as smooth as the 618. Thanks

@@TheThoughtfulWoodworker when were yours purchased? Thanks. I love DeWalt and 90% of my tools are DeWalt. Would you say it's smoother than the 23? I know the 23 is smoother than it's Bosch counterpart the 1617

@@2010stoof Mine are between 2 and 8 years old with heavy use. The 618 plunge is smoother than the MRC23. The motor on the MRC23 may feel smoother with heavy cuts, but that's just because it's a 15 amp motor vs 12 amp on the 618. The MRC23 also feels quite a bit heavier in the plunge base. Thanks

@@TheThoughtfulWoodworker oh ok. Yeah the issues are between 2-4 years ago according to reviews for the 618. Can't forget about user error but with a router should be able to take some abuse

@@2010stoof Maybe buy from Amazon and get the extended warranty amzn.to/4eaWsVD If it fails, you'll be covered. Like I mentioned, mine have been good. Bosch 1617 and MRC23 are other great choices for handheld routing. My favorite router in a table is still the Freud FT1700, but it's no longer made. I have three of those, just in case. I may have an addition to routers, now that I think of it.
