I've had my Dewalt for over a decade. That drill has been dropped from various heights, left out in the rain, submerged multiple times, used as a hammer more times than I can count, and still that drill runs like a champ. Dewalt really does make a tough drill.
i have a dewalt i stole from school and have no charger for it. it's been almost 2 years of using it once or twice a month and it's only lost one bar of battery life😂 also my cousin accidentally drove over it in a audi a3 and it was completely fine after😂😂 just bent the belt clip and i just bent it right back
I’m a lineman and a new guy in the bucket truck one day drilled through a huge power wire running up a wooden pole with a Milwaukee impact amazingly he didn’t get shocked at all and it took out 4 businesses and burnt down the pole with the impact in it. We still have it at our shop it’s destroyed and melted down pretty bad but if you put a battery in it, it still works somehow!
So…. Why would he be DRILLING through a pole with an IMPACT? I’m lost. Was it one of the giant hi torque 7/16” impact drivers? And how would anybody do that what’s the point of not checking for a gigantic set of wires on the other side of the pole?
Dewalt makes better batteries, milwaukee makes better tools. For peak performance, put a dewalt powerstack on a milwaukee m18 tool for peak performance
Never had a problem with either. I bought dewalt last becauae it was considerably cheeper while on sale. Id prefer milwaukee but im not gonna pretend like dewalt hasnt always shown me a reliable product.
We have a Milwaukee impact that got lost for 2 years turns out it was sitting in the forest behind our house through snow rain dirt wind and i found it put a new battery in it and it fired right up
I mean tbh at my old job I was working on a roof left a DeWalt drill up on the roof months go by and the costumer calls us and says they had a contractor find our drill on their roof and charged the battery and it worked perfect
Rofl i have a dewalt impact driver that fell off a 40 foot ladder. The handle can talk now. Still kicking 6 years later rofl dewalt has a customer for life with me, never been let down by any of their stuff. Best price to performance ratio on the market.
All new power tools can do this due to the separation of cells. You may not be able yo recharge due to the missing cells, but you can always replace them like I do with a spot/battery welder.
We’ve reached a point with cordless tools where you can go with whatever brand you’d like and still get the job done just fine. I picked up a cordless Hercules drill a couple months ago and even with just what was in the kit it’s the best performing drill I’ve ever owned. I also have a dewalt impact driver that’s gotta be 10 years old at this point and it still puts in work every time I use it. If you ask me it really comes down to personal opinion and preference 🤷🏻♂️
I was given a dewalt 1/4 driver Thing was beat up when I got it I dropped that little guy off ladders onto concrete, left it out in the rain a few times, had it sit in a puddle for a while, threw it in frustration a few times The little dewalt survived it all Earned my respect for sure
The difference is the Milwaukee wouldn't have burnt at all, but seriously if only parallel cells get knocked out it's quite possible to still work, just with decreased capacity, although the other lithium cells could be very damaged and a fire/explosion risk.
So you can see the standard cylinder batteries in the front... If memory serves its either 6 or 8 of them wired together in the battery. So if two of them on the end explode, theres a chance the others will not be affected and the drill will still work, albeit not woth full power. But its also usually lithium batteries, so there's a good chance its going to just catch on fire randomly
Nerd here. All cells and banks of batteries wired in parallel can lose cells and still function. Batteries wired in series are like cheap Christmas lights, if one goes the whole circuit is dead. Parallel wiring increases amp hours. Series wiring increases voltage. Some batteries have a combination of both. A battery can have a single cell or multiple cells. The defining difference between a cell and a battery is that a battery is a complete and ready to use package while a cell is a bare component. So in this case the battery has some fried cells, but the parralel wiring and controller board are all still intact.
Dropped my quarter inch DeWalt drill driver 12 V out of a 30 foot scissor lift directly onto concrete, the battery went one way, the Milwaukee Reamer that I was using for conduit went the other way, and the drill went a third way. Still functional but one of the three lights in the nose no longer works after that, also, the Milwaukee reamer blade broke lol
Yellow and Red both work good, Red is more focused toward automotive, Yellow is more focused toward woodworking, both work great and you can pretty much forget about the rest.
Dewalt is the only cordless power tool brand I’ve ever used and had fail on me during routine and not abusive use. I know that same thing can be said about literally every power tool brand by somebody somewhere, just my own experience.
This is true but on the flip side their flexvolt battery could just stop charging on it's own whim before you even put some good scratches on her Love the melted tool demos tho, those are good in any color
Dewalt is one of the best you can buy. My dad loved it so much his fav Nascar driver was Matt Kenseth. Milwaukee doesn't seem to have the same power in it. I remember working on job sites with my dad the only thing we used was Dewalt. Literally at 7 years of age. I could punch screws no problem with it. Got on my first job site where they used Milwaukee. And my god do you have to push hard. 😂
My dad had a Milwaukee drill for years and it went through a flood with the battery in it. We still have the drill and battery which works perfectly fine.
Milwaukee is where it's at. Been using their products for years and the only thing I've had to replace is the blades for their saws. Never replaced a battery, charger, an actual tool or part. Never filed a warranty claim and they'll probably be used to build my coffin.
Bro my dewalt impact hex bit drive seized and started smoking that good ip magic dust,. I thought it was over for it but then I opened it up and turn led the motor and since that day it has been working perfectly.
It would have to do with how the batteries are connected. It can clearly deliver enough power to the drill to function, but the overall runtime is severely diminished.
That's like dodge guys bragging about how their truck is still going even tho its falling apart. I think we all know an item that doesnt fall apart with abuse is desirable 😅
your missing the point that battery ate itself and the drill will still run because it's built well enough to handle smaller voltages and work with a broken battery
@@thomaslowder9760 its not a matter of build quality, it's just how those batteries work. its a lithium battery, losing a few cells just means its gonna die faster, it wont lose voltage till its near its discharge limit, then its just gonna stop. Basically just turned itself into a lower amp hour battery. Pretty standard.
Any battery will do this so long as the cells closest to the power regulator chip is still charged but onve the baterry drains it won't be able to recharge
I seen a Milwaukee drill that was half melted in a house fire still working most brands are good nowadays the only reason to subscribe to a brand is the batteries
the batteries are compact in rows. AA style. Rest is insulation. Those lithium batteries will jump start cars, trucks and fork lifts. I know cause ive done all the above.,
Lithium batteries fail as a short when burning up so when they failed there was still enough voltage from non destroyed cells to power it, the remaining good cells routed power through the destroyed cells that failed short allowing it to still work at a reduced voltage.
A destroyed cell can still flow power through it. But not if the series connection is broken. There was no longer a connecting point coming off of the positive side of the cell that was exposed. I build lithium batteries and I rebuild tool packs. In my professional opinion this was faked. The circuit was incomplete.
