For a guy that claims he did his research at the beginning of the video buys the wrong set for his needs than Manufacture for tools not doing what he wants. He got the entry level tool kit expecting flex volt performance. The XR tools are head and solders above the non-XR set. Also uses smaller batter Dewalt offers. Love Black and Yellow. Served me well for over 10 years.
First, make a good research and then buy the tools for the job you're going to do. There are different models with different specs for different jobs. Don't blame the tools for your bad research. That's your responsibility.
At a gun show once a guy said to me, "Buy once, cry once". At the I was about 15 years younger and I laughed. Now I completely understand, its best to buy the best thing the first time, and enjoy it. In most cases you end up buying both, might as well get the right one the first time.
You didn't do any research if you dont know about brushless an brush I'm just saying the brushless are much better! Your the one who needs the instructions it will tell you what the Allen key is for and extra parts !
These new-fangled telephones also feel like kids toys. I much prefer my old rotary dial one, that I plug into a phone jack. It just “feels” heavier and more substantial.
Hey Dan, no hate I've been watching you since your first tiny house! However, always buy brushless if your wanting professional stuff. Also, DeWalt has a "flexvolt" line up that uses 60 volts instead of 20 volts which obviously has much more power for tools like a grinder and a much better circular saw they offer that uses 7 1/4 blade. Point is, I think this is buyers mistake rather than manufacturer design/quality.
Basically all the big combo kits that aren’t brushless are garbage. They already basically put a public statement out saying they are cheeping out on anything that isn’t brushless
The grinder you seem more let down by battery performance. The 2.0ah is a bit anaemic. Good for household but not for high demand appliances like a grinder. With a 5.0ah battery you would likely have a far better experience. The drill is a base model. Impact OK. The oscillating tool looks like it's the XR brushless tool? It's a fantastic bit of kit - The lightness is engineered into the tools, they *shouldnt* be heavy, and weight doesn't equal performance. You'll have some sort of power transformer in the corded tool. Fit a 5.0ah battery to the Oscillating tool, and compare weights with the corded. That'll give you a fairer comparison. I have the same (I think) circular saw, and it's a great wee tool. Not the most powerful, but it's reliable and strong enough, and very comfortable. It's strong enough to rip 2 by 4 all day long. 2.0ah batteries won't give you the heft you need. Maybe a kit with fewer XR tools and 5.0ah batteries would be more what you need, but I still think that the kit coupled with 4 or 5ah batteries would have changed your mind.
You buy the cheapest stuff and wonder why its so cheap? Every brand makes there "black Friday" tools that are cheaper. Dewalt is specificaly notorious for it
Plus not everyone needs the XR set either, $500 for the majority of the tools the average joe needs for home jobs is a good price honestly. For the price I think you get a decent setup, the only downside is the cheap 2ah batteries, they should be 5ah instead like the XR sets.
The only reason I purchased the XR 18 Gauge Dewalt Brad Nailer kit was because the Ryobi had at least 50 of them broken on e-bay for sale as parts. What the hell is that? There are tons of Ryobi brad nailers broken for sale on e-bay all the time. I like the Green coolor and all but Hell I have a Job to do. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
I think when you get the bigger Ah batteries you’ll be happy with the grinder. I was running the 2Ah with the same circular saw you have and had a similar issue with it just draining the batteries. The more amp hours help.
Dewalt is owned by Stanley Black & Decker. Stanley Companies (power tools) include Stanley, Black & Decker, Porter-Cable, Dewalt, & Craftsman. I have the Porter-Cable set that is comparable to Dan's Dewalt set. When you buy the sets they always skimp on a couple of the tools. I really like mine though. Two years and going strong. True that the small circular saw won't do any heavy cutting but it is quite handy for quick cuts that aren't super critical. I never realized how much I would use a cordless reciprocating saw. In addition to my metal and wood blades, I have pruning blades that are great around the yard. It totally replaced my bow saw. My friend has the XR Brushless kit and it is much better. He also has the 5.0ah batteries and they really make a difference.
Hey Dan good video good to see you thanks for not being biasedcuz I'm pretty sure everybody on here knows how much you love DeWalt tools better luck on the next set I prefer Milwaukee
Dan, check out Ridgid. I used to have DeWalt and got tired of buying batteries. Ridgid has lifetime warranty on tools and batteries. I'm a contractor and a little over 2 years of everyday use still going strong. Cheaper than red ones and work better than the yellow ones.
That set is almost as nice as my Ryobi set 😆😆, just playing. They're great tools and you get what you pay for. Also that multi tool is the best in the business! You can build a ton of stuff with those tools! With that said buy Milwaukee Fuel and stop playing around 👍🤘👌
Support the future. Love the concept of dewalts 120v miter saw cordless or corded tools. I wish dewalt made their lower powered tools with an option of being corded or cordless till the inevitable future of cordless tools. cordless tools are the future. *Would you use a corded tool in space? The most extreme environment. Given you are not dropping the tool into an active volcano.
2010 era tools with 2017era batteries, xrp is a better investment, for the price, you got a lot of tools for the price, an investment in bigger batteries will make it better. Milwaukee red since 2005. The brush less versions seem nicer, we still got one guy to convert in the shop to Milwaukee haha, Hope the next purchase gives you a little more joy. I also look at warranty replacements as a factor, I know rigid seems to have a good one, I know the Dewalt is not as long as some of the others.
XR does not automatically mean brushless. A few seconds on Amazon shows exactly wich models of tools are in the kit. Extensive research might have failed here....
Sorry to hear they sucked. I find myself moving towards corded tools as well. I can’t stand having to wait for the battery to charge when I need to use the tool now.
I rather just start out with their top of the line XR brushless drill/driver and 1/4 impact driver combo kit. Then later build on the ecosystem with additional bare tools in their XR brushless line.
I think the 60v tools are more of a professional grade. You have to pick the right XR brushless 20v tool models. I have started buying more Milwaukee for the heavier duty tools.
I was so hype about this damn set I’ve been waiting “4” years to buy this shit I finally did yesterday 11/13/19 last day of the sale and your review just buried all my excitement for it 😔.
@erik iverson you’re right about that but the 5ah works great if you’re like me doing small projects around the house. But you can’t go wrong with the XR’s
I'm a Milwaukee fan so DeWalt generally isn't my thing but I'll say that your first mistake was paying for a large combo kit. Generally these kits with milwaukee and DeWalt are the bottom of the barrel more designed for the home owner. They are also probably brushed. Brushed tools are not nearly as efficient and powerful as brushless. You will need to use larger batteries.
It has been a year and i just watched this video and it is so funny of how he complains about the grinder when everyone knows that you need a big battery for it not a small one unreal
The Grinder is brushed and you had an 2.0 battery on it. Can’t really expect much from that from my experience especially on any heavy or intensive tasks. I am surprised Dewalt are still selling that particular model tbh as it has to be over about 7 or 8 years old now, and they have a new model available. I’ve had mine for 6 years without fault (Plumber).
For the Multi master tool ... go to ebay for a good price on blades.... all the saw blades turn into scrapers which I sharpen to get more life out of them.. Merry Christmas!
Dude, the long tool you picked up is not called a "saw zall". That is a brand name. It is called a reciprocating saw or " recip" for short. Also, that set you picked up is a consumer/contractor special. You get what you pay for. They have way better models like the XR/Brushless and the "Premium" tools that have metal in them. DeWalt also makes the brushless Flexvolt line which runs at 60v. In case you are wondering, the 60v Flexvolt batteries are backwards compatible with the 20v line. Brushless tools have a completely different type of motor. They have no lost potential like brushed motors that spark. It works based on magnetism. Brushless tools are more powerful, and the batteries last longer without having to charge them as much, which means they also have a longer life because you don't have to charge as frequent. "mAh" stands for milli amp hour. Ah stands for Amp hour. 4,000 mAh is equal to 4 Ah. It is basically the capacity of the battery. There is no way you can get anything done with a grinder using a 1.5 or 2 Ah battery. If you seriously use the grinder a lot, consider getting the 6, 9 or 12 Ah batteries. And lastly, you really can't compare that baby bluetooth speaker with a bigger radio. You want to hear something? Check out the Toughsystem 1.0 jobsite radio. The 2.0 will be out soon if you wait. That is the best job site radio on the market, period. They also make a slightly smaller one which is really good. The Tstak radio. It has a little less base the Toughsystem, but is the 2nd or third best radio in terms of sound. The Bosch Cube is up there as well, but is pretty old, so it doesn't have all the features the DeWalt have.
I've been doing construction for the past year, using many different brands from other construction workers, I've found that the non-brushless DeWalts are pretty cheap and a little gutless. Makita non-brushless are WAY more powerful, if you are going to go DeWalt get the brushless, if not go with Makita. Almost everyone thats used my Makita stuff has been impressed. The only tool I've been a little dissappointed with in the Makita set was the circular saw, it works in pinch, but its a bit gutless, they do make a dual battery version thats got way more kick
That’s a bummer the tools didn’t work out for you. I was also wondering like around the 6:15 mark, if you said that you expect the tools to last 10-15 years or do not expect the tools to last 15 years. I know when I bought my Ryobi tools like 15 years ago. I didn’t expect them to last. But they seem to be holding up well. Although I did have to buy new batteries to replace the ones that died on me. But to me. Replacing the batteries isn’t too bad for all the use I’ve gotten out of them. I’ll definitely be buying more Ryobi in the future. The big reason I went with Ryobi over anyone else was they had just announced the 18v one plus line (the nicad batteries) and said all future batteries would work with the one plus tools. Cause I hate buying the batteries.
Myself, I am piecing my DeWalt set together, they are putting the low scale crap in these sets. It is more expensive but in a long run I will have the better tools for it.
Lot of research.... i question that by how you say amp hour. Go binge watch AvE here on YT. I don't have less than 4Ah batteries, and use 18v 6Ah for my angle grinder. And even those burn out pretty quick. But i can run it continiously by swapping batteries between the charger and the tool. It's not that dewalt sucks, but all tool companies have like 20 models of the same tool with small differences. Everything from trash to fash. Personally i'm a fan of brushless battery powered makita and festool guy, but it's like a religion or car brand.
I don't know what is being called extensive research, totally agree, how can you not know what the advantages of brushless are after researching. And $500 for those tools, how could you even expect them to be professional level. It's like wanting a Chevy Corvette, and buying an old Chevy Citation and expecting to get the same performance, they are the same brand, right?
$500 for a 9 piece set. Thats about $50 per tool. You realise that is cheap as fuck. Also how is it shame on Dewalt? they are allowed to make kits for the DIY'er.
I actually got a Dewalt drill last week and to me it felt quite cheap. The place I work at we use Panasonic Drills and impact drivers and those feel far more rigid than the Dewalt
My perfect tool package would be 4+ batteries with 2x4ah and 2x6ah or more For a combined radio, inverter, power bank for the batteries, 120v/230v/ usb/12v outtake. charger, lockable tool chest on wheels and worklight mast. In one modular, but central unit. With a little worktop, for holding screws and tools. Angle grinder Drill/impact drill combo Impact gun with high tourqe, 1/2" comined bit holder. Ocilating tool Vaccum with adaptor for all tools, possibly in the main unit. Hand Router Bayonet saw/ maybe buzzsaw combo (Sander) Circular saw Most the tools could have the same motor, grip, battery port, led light, trigger and only have the different mechanism attatched. Saving a lot of expence. I intend to make this. 3D printable, public, open source and free.
Love the tool comments section where red china fan girl have to declare their toys are “the best”. It’s like exclaiming you are “The Harvard” of something.
Please consider. Support cordless technology please. It is a tremendous amount of work to perfect that technology. I do not debate, corded constant power is always best, currently... BUT, if you had a battery that could last more than you need it, its a start. I am a huge dewalt fan and know that they do offer corded power to their high power demanding tools.
Last note, please don't hate on Dewalt unless you are you using their most premium cordless tools of their kind. Dewalt is the shit... And is taking batteries to new limits.
The battery upgrade was a switch from old tech to lithium. It wasn't a ploy to make you buy into a new ecosystem. How can you complain about battery tech, and also complain about the fact that they came out with new battery tech. And how many years ago was that anyway??
I have mostly brushless dewalt tool and Milwaukee tools .super great tools that make life is easier with these two brands .honestly you didn't do your research beforehand. Plus if you cant tell what brushless means than you would not know the difference between a home owner or a pro contractor tool.if you want dewalt or Milwaukee good tools you just cant be a CHEAPSKATE.
Great review...was thinking of going cordless....I have been doing research too...do you have a recommendation fo r corded power tool combo kits...or do you have a recommendation for cordless combo kit...like this vid down and dirty..."got a little blade that goes dzzzzz just like that"...
You should read what your buying! That set is a home owner set. You need to get the xr brushless stuff. Xr is contractor quality. I own many and they have made me lots of money.
I was shopping for tools this year, bought similar tools set you got. I think it was 6 tool for 450, returned it right away after watching other people's review. Looked into their brushless line, and every TIME their set was missing something. For example, their atomic line I wanted to get, two drill, a hacksaw, and oscillating saw, 299. But, the two drill were one drill driver and a impact driver. I wanted a hammer driver not a drill and the battery were 2amp. I could would of been okay with it, but why the f*ck do I need to buy another battery, and still be short a hammer drill that I wanted. So I went with the Milwaukee. A hammer drill driver, impact driver, and a hackzall. With two 5amp battery. One tool short, but the tools that were included were better quality. So 399 for Milwaikee Fuel 3 tools or 450, for Dewalt 6 tools, or 299 for dealt atomic four tools. All would of been fine, but I think for now I'll stick with the corded tools I have and start with what I want, which is the basic drills and portable cutter with a decent battery.
Did you work with Makita tools? I moved from the EU to Mexico and i am now faced with all these new brands like Dewalt, which don't exist in the EU. I am trying to have a good comparison VS Makita tools, which are great machines.
dewalt exist in eu just they are pricey if you buy trade grade u will be super happy with them he bought entry level shit n he got what he paid for got dewalt brushless tools with good bateries cant be happyer
The xr brushless stuff is a ton better. I swear by the brushless impact and drill. As far as the rest of it, "I've always found the corded equipment has a better battery life".
Some say XR Tools are " much better" lol Over the top comments from some. I returned the XR tool set on Amazon which i paid 249$ on black friday. DCS570, 887, 791 combo kit. They sucked too.
You never gave them a chance. They’re actually pretty good tools & I have both XR and those brushed ones. Your always gonna need bigger batteries especially for those bigger tools like circ saw and grinder regardless of the brand or being brushed or not.
Xr isn't brushless its higher battery capacity but the brushless tools are way better quality and the batteries last longer because brushless motors are more efficient
I can’t talk. I bought a similar set and they don’t compare to the same “bare tools” let alone their brushless ones. They cut corners, cheaper parts, smaller motors, not as many features etc. so if you’re not just a home owner and your going to use these tools regularly, buy the bare tools. They’re more money but you get what ya paid for. I wound up giving this set away buying the brushless tools. Waste of money for heavy duty work
I got the same set except mine was the 10 tool kit just came with a alittle leaf blower extra but that damn flashlight i thought was the jankiest thing ever but you will NOT believe how many times that damn flashlight has saved me at a job site like now ive been workin in building built in 1905 in the basement doing masonry an if i didnt have that light i would have had to go soend atleast 59 bucks fir a decent light theres no electric in the basement nor lighting ive had that flashlight last me most of the day without a charge i would reccomend upgrading the battery to atleast 5 ah
Those batteries are to small, I have been using 18 volt 4 amp hour that’s AH for years and they work great I even use them on my 18 volt circular saw and it gets the job done...
Well how can you expect a set to be the end all be all? You need 5ah batteries for sawzall , grinder and circular saw. All pros use cordless tools now, go check out a real worksite
And get the tough system radio. Blows the one you said was expensive out of the water. Dewalt is a ground shaker. honestly, the TWO, 500 dollar Bose speakers do not compare to the ONE Dewalt on a job site.
You complain about the grinder? A brushed motor with a 2.0 battery man. The 2.0 is not good for grinders or saws. And after the cheap home owner grade comments, you make a statement to dewalt about testing a brushless kit!? I’ve ran half those tools and they are solid performers. Get bigger battery with more ah as you told us to do in the beginning.
You do know "ah" means amp hour, right? Cordless tools are at the point where they can accomplish 98% of what corded can. There's cordless table saws now. 1 battery will last you all day. Brushless is the way to go. Nobody buys brushed except for people who don't know what they're doing or looking at.
XR alone does not mean its brushless . thats where they fooled many people into beleiveing they had a brushless tool when I'm reality look close and the true brushless ones say XR Brushless on the side not the XR alone those are not brushless !
No research at all from this guy. I have all the top of the line XR DeWalt tools. With that said I wish DeWalt would stop selling these old bottom of the barrel crap. It waters down the brand.
That set is for do it yourselfers. That's why it's so cheap. Plastic parts. Buy the xr with 5 amp/ hr batteries. If you're going to do personal work, Buy professional tools.
