I purchased this exact shop from Costco about 6 months ago and was just about to unbox it. After seeing your video I know I made the right choice. Aaron, I found your unboxing review entertaining and informative. "It allows you to turn your sucker into a blower, now that in any other industry you'll need to leave a tip for." 😆Just subscribed.
You gave an exceptional review. I was thinking about getting this just so I can vacuum up pet hair. Because you took the review to a level of layman's terms coupled w/great examples - I'm definitely buying it now.
“That’s a lot of sucking!” 😂🤣 Great job and you made me laugh. I almost bought this at Costco today, but I think I’m going to splurge and upgrade to one with a poly tank and a higher powered motor. You do get what you pay for, and every single time I buy one of these in this price range it isn’t long before I regret it. Plus, it’s made in China and I try to avoid that these days.
Thanks for the information. I'm headed to Costco after work to purchase. I need to empty my water feature for the season. Wish I had seen this before purchasing the portable sump pump
Did you end up getting it? My vacuum that I inherited from my dad ended up burning out so I'm vacuumless at the moment but I would like to hear what people think about it
I own this Dewalt shop vac from Costco and I also own 2 Ridgid shop vacs as well. I think Ridgid power tools are good and the lifetime service agreement is even better if you remember to register your tools in the first 90 days. How ever the 2 Ridgid shop vacs I own is garbage. I forgot to register them so I only have a 3 year warranty on the shop vac.s My Ridgid shop vacs are just over the 3 year mark and has hardly been used. I always run filters and bags in my shop vac. I have 1 shop vac that was only used with liquids. I did run a wet filter on this one and the other one is only used for dry stuff. Like I said in the dry vac I always have a filter and a bag installed. The wet vac as I call it only lasted 6 months before it stopped working. the dry vac as I call it stopped working 2 days after the 3 year warranty expired (how convenient). I spent $159.00 and $179.00 Canadian on my 2 Ridgid vacs that did not work very well. I will never buy another Ridgid shop vac in this lifetime. In my opinion they are junk. Sorry Ridgid but laying it out as it is. Now the DeWalt shop vac I bought from Costco is a beast all in its own. It is quieter and a lot more powerful than both Ridgid shop vacs. It works great for vacuuming out your car or clearing the rain water from my basement window wells when it rains a little to hard. I paid less then $100.00 Canadian for the Dewalt shop vac from Costco. This weekend I will be purchasing another DeWalt shop vac from Costco providing they have them in stock. People do not learn and waste money like I did. Just go buy the Dewalt Shop Vac.
@@PrithviRVarma LOL, I can promise you I am 100% not a bot. I actual had a minor flood in my basement due to heavy rains and one basement window did leak a lot. I used both my 1 working Ridgid shop vac and my Dewalt shop vac. The Dewalt won hands down. The Dewalt shop vac is so much quieter and has a lot better suction. The other nice thing about the Dewalt shop vac is the white filter that comes with the shop vac can be used for both wet liquids and dry material. Not like the Ridgid shop vac that takes a separate filter for liquids. If you decide to buy the Dewalt you will not be disappointed.
@@PrithviRVarma Honestly I am not a B O T. I am 100% a real person writing 100% true reviews. We had average basement flood. It came from 1 of the basement windows. I used the last remaining Ridgid shop vac and my Dewalt shop vac. The Dewalt shop vac was the best shop vac to help reduce the pain of a basement flooding. If you bought it you will not be disappointed. The last Ridgid shop vac quit working at the end.
Hi Aaron, thanks for the serious review which is well shot and accurately dubbed. TBH, I am amazed by your professional video shooting and the magnetic deep male voice. You could be an excellent movie or TV commercial dubber! Keep it up dude!
You said remove the filter for wet use, the book says it has to to be on to suck up liquids, then dry it for at least 24hours. Makes it sound like if its not on you could damage the motor. Being paper not sure how it would stop liquid. I assume you had no issues sucking up the water with no filter?
Looked at this today, does the blow blow out while it's sucking? Got a similar vacuum and it's so annoying that while your sucking up, the "blower" function is causing a whirlwind behind it ..
That's normal for the first ~3 hours of use, just the carbon brushes breaking in, although if it's been doing it for like 3 weeks of use then I'd get a warranty claim
Great review! I just went out to get mine from Costco:) one question that you did Not cover: do you use the bag coming with the vac? If so, are the bag and the filter used at the same time? Obviously I have not even read the manual yet :)
Unless I missed it.....there was no mention of the length of the cord? I've heard both now 10ft and 20ft - - can you confirm for me (did see this at Costco, but forgot to look for that) thanks
@@aaronstestlab I hate to disagree but the 120 volts household voltage is in fact RMS voltage and not peak. If you were to look at the peak voltage it would be about 170 volts. So your calculation was accurate. Great review!
I bought this vacuum in January 2020 @ Costco. I love it, but use it once in a while for wet cleanup and the screws on the inside started to rust out a couple months ago...stainless steel without stainless steel screws?
I complained to Costco about the rust, they said called DeWalt - Dewalt was willing to replace and I said no, but they had the same model constructed of plastic, which they shipped to me at no cost...but the screws still got rusty which I will eventually replace with stainless steel screws...
Outstanding review!!! As a woman hardly versed in such equipment and in desperate need of a shop vac, this review solidifies my choice of this DeWalt wet/dry vac! Thank you!
Awesome, AWESOME review! Thanks for this. I purchased this yesterday on a whim as I just bought a house and needed one. I went in blind and was a bit concerned I was going to get a crappy vac. After watching this, I think it’s safe to say this is a very decent unit for the price. Thanks again.
This is one excellent and very comprehensive demo/analytic video. You get a very good idea of exactly what you're buying if you watch this video first.
Just today I was using it to empty a trough of water and the bottom was leaking from some interior rust spots. If it were you would you try to go through dewalt or back to Costco? I love the way it rolls and looks but now I have a leaking vac.
Thanks for the informative video, Aaron. We appreciate your honest approach and your humor on this review! Do you have any experience with connecting this to any of your DeWalt power tools? If so, what adapters, if any did you have to use? Did you happen use the Universal Adaptor, DWV9190? Thanks again, you just gained another subscriber! Cheers
Thanks for the sub. Yes, I use it with my Delta table saw, Bosch router table and Ridgid miter saw. All coupling is done via two adapters: Powertec Dust Flex Cuff: amzn.to/30jGzII WORKSHOP Wet/Dry Vacs Wet Dry Vacuum Adapter: amzn.to/34yA0Er As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases
My ONLY complaint about this vacuum is the absurdly short power cord. Also, you should mention that your peak amperage draw is under a "no-load" condition, and probably with a brand new filter. Your measurement will change with different accessory attachments and the level of filter or bag occlusion. Sucking water out of your bucket will give a more practical measure of peak power draw. Since humans perceive sound intensity on a (approximate) logarithmic scale, I don't see the point of converting to Pascals for purposes of noise comparison. Kind of silly, I think.
Great video. Just bought it for $79.99 [$99.99-$20] at Costco. Given current inflation, not too bad. I feel confident about using it after watching this. Thnx!
Amazon list the CFM for this vac at about 86. That's a terrible number. I contacted the Dust Deputy company and asked them what CFM they recommended to use with the Dust Deputy. (BTW: They said to ignore the horse power rating as it is a meaningless figure.) The company said to use a vac with at least 150 CFM with the Dust Deputy. They suggested that the CFM number should be the number to use when comparing vacuums.
Alright dude you are a great reviewer, a profound thanks. Can you please continue to review shop vacs and also please include water lift. The bucket test is great but water lift test gives us auto detailers a better idea of what kind of suction power we're gonna get at the tip of the nozzle (like it shows us the pull if you get me) this is very important for tough jobs like pet hair, sand or extreme dirt removal. A special thanks for the HP explanation, I agree 100% this why the egg shaped ridgid vac is often reviewed as the best auto detailing vac by many because even tho is fake propaganda "5hp" only vs. The "6.5hp" (less "HP") it still provides a slightly more powerful suction, of course all these great reviews come from reviewers that test this things outta of the box which is very misleading to people that are planning to use daily on a commercial setting. Main problem with the egg shaped ridgid vac is that it is too small and as a result the filter gets clogged very fast resulting in less suction (see the dilema) oooh not to mention that if you suction water and your filter gets wet it's game over. Removing the filter or improving the filter are not viable options for auto detailers bc it takes too much time and no matter how good or organized you are it is freaking impossible to keep the filter dry/clean in this tiny shit vacs (design flaw) or (maybe they designed it on purpose so you will spend a ton of money on filter replacement). This is why I appreciate your time so much, we need a vacuum that is big enough and doesn't loose suction once you start using it for real. Like it needs to be designed for the filter to stay clean/dry for at least a day and we need freaking suction not freaking lies about HP CFM blah blah blah, like real statistics on real environment (not controlled environment fake advertising BS). Ridgid/Home Depot has cheated us out of our money with their shit filter destroying vacuums with tiny motors from home depot for way to long. WE SHALL START... THE VACUUM WARS
Great review! I've had several Shop-Vac models over the years and their ONLY redeeming quality is the "pump-out" feature (QPV/ QULP series) with garden hose attachment which has served me well for flooded basements and such. Are there any other shop vac brands that have this feature WITHOUT having to buy an external and powered add-on? Other than a higher drum capacity, this is the only lacking criteria I can think of for the perfect shop vac. Not sure if it's patented but with that company now defunct, would the pump-out design (or similar) be deployable to the market? Thanks again for the great review... it's a year later and I see Costco lists the same model but for $10 more. Seriously thinking about grabbing one.
Thank you for this review. My husband just purchased this for me for mother's day and I am so excited to have it. I will be purchasing the Ridgid Car Detailing Kit for certain. Keep up the great reviews.
Good job using the dBA scale. The dBA scale is a “human hearing” weighted scale and the best for measuring perceived and dangerous sound pressure levels.
It's a shop vac, we expect it to be loud! Very good though. Crush resistant is WHY it is flexible. It keeps it from staying regid and creating a hole when crushed. Also I am a bIg fan of Home Depot. Have never had the majority of your problems\
I haven't always disliked Home Depot. When I lived in Phoenix they were my go-to. However, the Seattle location closest to my house is a disorganized mess staffed by dangerously misinformed mouth-breathers. I hate it.
Very nice review! I have had mine sitting in a box for almost a year. Got it going a couple week back and have been very impressed with it.Now seeing all of your review I am even more pleased waiting to get this one instead of the porter cable version.
nice machine but i sure love my big bertha Shop-Vac 16 gallons 6.0hp 60.5 L with a 24 foot hose (3 hose endto end) i love it i do use a bag and cartridge filter makes suction and air flow is nice .
Aaron: Thanks for this review. The Stanley wet/dry vac has a foam filter for wet pickup. It seems the DeWalt does not have a filter for wet pickup. Do you find the foam filter to be unnecessary?
Costco no longer seems to show this model (I asked an associate and he said they don’t believe they’ll be getting any more). They now have the DXV08SA (smaller 8 gallon variety) for $99.99 😢
Had to return it back to Costco. Vacuum hose would not clip onto the shop vac. Poor design. When I returned it, Costco guy said he knew exactly what I was talking about and said it’s a known issue.
In your video, you remind people to remove the filter before sucking up liquids. I have this DeWalt vacuum, and the manual says that "The cartridge filter must be positioned over the filter cage while vacuuming liquids." Page 9 of the manual. Which filter is this? The manual calls the dry vacuum filter the "Clean Connect filter". Are these two filters one and the same? Please advise? Thanks for your help.
Unlock and lock filter not working; I turn to unlock position, but hard to pull out filter; finally I managed to pull out the filter but still not able to put back the knob.
