Thank you David, your video helped me make my decision to go for this model. Played with it a bit in store, but obviously one can only do so much in store. Was undecided between this and the Makita which is a bit cheaper, but this seams far more superior and since it is something that would most likely last many years I think it's better to just spend the bit extra now. Thank you
Romuel I think if you look after it, it will last a lifetime. It’s so structural sound, it will blow you away. I had a Triton work bench for 20 years and it’s till going strong but not really practical for the type of woodworking I want to do these days!
Wonderful video. You have a voice for teaching- very calm and cool. I bought this saw this week and just love it. To all women out there- you can do this! I assembled the stand myself- come on ladies, it's just nuts and bolts 😊
You’ll absolutely love it and won’t regret it. I’m no expert but it definitely makes woodworking a lot easier to produce quality work. Spread the word.
just wanted to add that the mitre slot storage area is actually good, you just need to turn the bevel the other way so towards the storage area that way it slides in easily, then you lock the adjuster knob on the dewalt mitre sled. hope that clears that bit up. Great video
Just came across your video now... Fantastic breakdown of how this saw works and you've sold me mate. Considering you never read the instructions you picked up on the functions of this machine perfect. I've been pondering about this saw over the last day or two and you've made it real easy for me. Thanks heaps David. From David in Brisbane.👍
Cheers, David. I was almost sold on the Bosch GTS 10 XC, but this video has helped change my mind. The build quality and attention to detail is amazing. And you did a great job with this video too. Many thanks.
@@DavidAbela I purchased the little brother of your saw (the DWE7485) partly because I don't have much space in my garage. It has the smaller blade but you are right. No regret, the cut compared the the Triton is unbelievable and the ease of setting the measurements a god send. Yesterday in the Melbourne Heat I completed the build of a simple flip-top bench. I think I lost a few kilos with no AC in the garage.
Nice to see a review by a fellow Aussie. I am thinking of buying this and I'm almost convinced to buy it. 1 question...can the fence rails be adjusted independently or do they always move in tandem via the rack & pinion dial, and therefore are always parallel to the blade? I sometimes want/need to cut sheet at an angle and my current table saw allows me to move each fence rail independently of the other (the same as yours - a Triton), so I can cut my material at any angle required - not just perfectly parallel to the blade.
@@simonmills2375 I’m jealous! A workshop underneath. OMG! I’ve often wanted to dig up the backyard and build an underground workshop but the wife won’t let me. Love New Zealand, I’ll get back there soon hopefully.
Good overview mate. I've got the 7485 (little brother) and love it. Like you, the fence system was the deciding factor for me - no other saw in this price range had a fence that felt anywhere near as good as the DeWalt.
The 7485 looks great too. I just like the little bit extra ripping capacity with the 7491 but otherwise I think the 2 units are basically the same. Can the 7485 take Dado blades?
@@DavidAbela I don't think it can take a dado blade. I do mostly smaller stuff (boxmaking etc), and use a cordless circular saw for breaking down sheet stuff, so really didn't need the bigger blade or rip width. I've made a few sleds which are great for the smaller, finer work. Really happy with the decision so far!
@@DavidAbela good to know. I read in a review or something that it couldn't, but I don't have a need so never bothered to confirm that :-). Still loving your videos David, keep up the great work!
Thanks Darren. I dont use Dado Blades but Dewalt has a Dado Blade stack that looks really good. They are available in the U.S on Amazon. amzn.to/3nwVNDg
I have the same Triton 2000 work centre and router table as yourself in my garage at home. Like you I am about to replace it with a Dewalt DW7491 and router lift system. I would be curious to know what you plan to do with your Triton gear post your upgrade. This is my dilemma as well.
David, the DWE 7491 and the DWE 7491-XE are 2 different saws. One comes with the standard world-wide common 5/8 arbor, and the XE is made for the Au market, with 16 mm arbor which makes a huge difference if you intend to do fine wood working or furniture. My comment are below.
Hi David. It's interesting that in Australia you get the 91 variation. In Europe we get the 92, essentially the same saw though. I own this table saw, and as my first saw I bought it because of that rack and pinion fence system, and what's not to like? The saw cuts through anything like a knife through hot butter. You also very quickly get used to the startup, but it's a bit jarring at first without soft start. That's the only negative I can really think of. But it's a very minor complaint. Rest of the saw is either excellent in most regards or at least sufficient. Would I recommend others buy this saw? Yes absolutely, because in this price range I believe it's the best you can find, at least in 2021. That might change, but the fence offered by Dewalt is the best I've ever seen. I have a friend who owns a cabinet saw that costs about 10 times more and that fence isn't as good as the Dewalts. The Dewalt is also safer. Not as safe as a Sawstop, but still with a solid fence, blade guard (or at least riving knife) and a solid understanding of table saw safety, it's a safe saw.
Have you found what the two screw holes are for? I am also wondering if you are able to mount the blade guard and the fence under the table at the same time.
G'day David, thanks for the review. I've read somewhere that these can take a Dado blade system...have you a Dado blade for this? Thanks again for the review.
Hi David, just checking how this saw is going today after a couple years of use? I’ve done some research and come across these videos. They are great videos and you really explain things well. Would you recommend buying this as I was thinking of buying this one
@@DavidAbela Hey David, great video👍 2 questions for you mate: I'm based in Oz too. I know we have the 16mm blade bore here in Oz. I was in Bunnings yesterday, there's a few 10inch 30mm bore blades which come with a 16mm reducers. 1) do you find the stock dewalt 10inch blade it comes with is good enough for fine cutting.. ie I've got to do a lot of door trim lengths and cross cuts, and I've got some tazmanian oak window frames to build. You think the 'construction' 32 tooth blade it comes will cut smooth? or is a higher tooth count blade better? 2) if a higher count tooth blade is better, are you finding buying the 30mm bore inc reducers to 16mm are working well? 3) Do you ever go to an 8inch blade just to get the 16mm bore size..? basically I'm trying to see my options in Bunnings / online and wondering if the 16mm bore size is a posing troubles for blades here in Oz. Cheers mate👍
Im glad you made this video mate. I just bought one after watching reviews on the yank model. After I pulled the pin I read reviews on the difference between the xe and rs. So many blokes here had a few big complaints. Esp not having blades available in store anywhere in Aus being a 16mm arbor when everything here is 30 mm. I found blades easy to get on Amazon but. After watching your 2 videos I feel glad I bought mine. Trust a Maltese bloke hey? 🤣
My paper manual that came with the saw shows the amperage as 15 amps in the specifications section on page 1 and in my digital copy of the manual it's on page 4. It may run on a 10 amp circuit but it's not good to under power any electric motor. I have the DWE7491RS in the U.S.
I made a big mistake buying this saw. The arbor is metric 16mm made exclusively for Au, and no one in the world is making another saw wit 16mm arbor. Obviously Dewalt is the only one and ONLY in Au. If you want to buy another blade or two- you have to buy the Dewalt one wit the 16mm bore. Adapter rings wont work, because the flanged nut is concave on the blade side- so any adapter ring will vibrate or is free to move while the blade is rotating or not. That's a disaster...as any eccentric movement with the 5000rpm can be catastrophic. So we are unique in Au with this obvious strategy. This saw is good enough for carpenters, builders but is NOT for furniture making or any fine woodworking. Although the US and rest of the world can put any good quality 5/8 saw blade on this saw, in Au we are forced to buy Dewalt blades only.
your guess work on some of the features is appalling, try reading the instructions first. FYI the Hikoki C10RJ(H1Z) has all the same features and more, comes with wheeled stand, rank & pinion blade height adjustment at $579 cheaper, oh did I mention the Dewalt is a noise screamer unlike the Hikoki. you really didn't do your research? did you know Milwaukee, AEG, Metabo, Dewalt, Hikoki(Hitachi) plus others are owned by the same company and interchange parts, which is TTI. its good to watch people still blowing their own trumpet after discovering they bought a price lemon.
Thanks Edna for your feedback. These are my personal opinions based on my experiences, you obviously love the Hikoki and that’s great. Tens of thousands of people around the world share my love for the Dewalt Table Saw, maybe one day I’ll try out the Hikoki and do a comparison. Happy Woodworking!
