You can't weld?, dude buy welding equipment, teach yourself, there're tons of videos to learn from, if I told myself that I can't don't something I won't be a self taught contractor today!.
Looks spectacular. I'm a little concerned about the mounting screws though. My van has factory style shelving, not all that heavily loaded and the bolts (not screws) actually ripped the inner sheet steel. I'm assuming you have cordless tools and such in those boxes. I'd appreciate a follow up video after say, 1 year. It's not like i'm doing jumps or anything but i do run pretty hard. Just seems like you're asking an awful lot from both the screws and the steel you screwed into. Hope it works like it looks cuz it looks awesome.
+john hanrahan hi thanks for the comment, its been about 4 months since fitting now and everything seems fine. The tool boxes are medium weight I guess, maybe 15kg for the heaviest with nothing moving or drooping at all. There are 6 fixings in the top rail and 4 in the bottom. Thanks for watching.
Awesome video, could you share specs? Also is the spacing between both rows the minimum possible? Can the cases actually sit a bit closer together or is that the closest possible because of the handles?
+Michael Thibodeau the square tube is 25mm x 25mm the spacing between could probably go a little tighter, its better the bigger the gap. Thanks for watching.
Francis Barnett thanks for the reply! Do you have your width, height, vertical centre bar and whole spacing as well? Looking to fab something like this and yours is perfect!
+Michael Thibodeau the 25mm uprights are 480mm on centers, I guess the height depends on your van space, I made mine 850 total height and drilled holes for brackets every 25mm. Good luck.
hey Francis I want to build the same system in my vann. but the guy in the store thinks the hooks will not hold in the vann if you have to do bad roads . how is your rack now? no problems with to havy chests?
hi. what spacing did you use for drilling the holes and what size holes are they? id guess 50mm spacing? also how much of a gap have you left between the two centre verticals? thanks
I ask as dewalts version for a shed is what i bought and a week later they launch a setup specifically for a van. your setup looks good and strong. Whats your trade?
Mate aren't you sweating over your van getting broken into? I had my van shelved out but kept out growing it and having got a new motor didn't bother with shelves/racks and got to steel boxes fixed down. Having said that the OCD in me loves what you've done
This system is good for unloading, if i think the site I'm going to be working at is full of dirty thieves i just strip down to the basics and move unused boxes of tools into my garage. Where we live is very safe - one crime in the last twenty years.
its not a true square tube,i got an awning frame and made it work but it is not true, youll have to file a little bit of the plastic handles then your good
