DeWalt is overhauling its power tool lineup with new high-performance models and simplified naming conventions to enhance your experience. This update streamlines their tool and battery offerings, consolidating 3 battery sub-brands into just 20V or XR, and simplifying 5 tool lines into 3 clear categories: 20V MAX, XR (High Performance), or ATOMIC COMPACT SERIES (Compact).
Releasing with the announcement are several new tools and a new battery, with more to come very soon. These include a 20V MAX XR POWERPACK 8.0Ah Battery (DCB2108) or 2-pack (DCB2108-2), 20V MAX XR 3-Speed 1/4″ High Torque Impact Driver bare tool (DCF860B) and kit (DCF860WW1), 20V MAX XR Brushless Cordless 1/2" Hammer Drill bare tool (DCD1007B) or kit (DCD1007WW1), and the 20V MAX XR 2-1/4 HP Dedicated Plunge Router (DCW620B).
In their press release, DeWalt also teased a new 20V XR Circular Saw (DCS590B), Reciprocating Saw (DCS384B), and Angle Grinder (DCG410B) that are expected to be coming out this August and available for Pre-Sale soon.

Vince @VCG Construction easily clarified this for us. DeWalt is located at Home Depot and Lowes, while Milwaukee is only at Home Depot. Lowes has Power Detect/extreme, while Home Depot has Flexvolt advantage/atomic. Two different stores with two different power tool platforms at each so that they have their own unique brand. Thats actually impressive. To consolidate into just one XR platform and be at two different stores is even more impressive.

Honestly we thought they were exactly the same at first and just branded with 2 names for those big box guys. Turns out they were not 100% the same from a service side but at the same time not different enough to really warrant having multiple different versions. We had stock both FlexVolt Advantage and Power Detect at Ohio Power Tool which was a nightmare as if a company wants 15 recip kits ASAP, likely they ended up with some combination of these two. We are very happy to see a streamlined solution for Dewalt 20V XR moving forward!

So what about tools that require the flex volt to function? 6 inch grinder, for example.

The 60V FlexVolt tools are totally unchanged with this update, these will almost always be more powerful than even the new 20V XR tools. The FlexVolt Tools require the FlexVolt Batteries to work, no matter how big or what tech the 20V XR batteries use, will never work to power these 60V Tools. The 60V FlexVolt batteries (because they can also be ran at 20V) will work with the 20V XR Tools and will provide better performance.

@sashawaxman807
@sashawaxman807 Месяц назад
They will continue
@OhioPowerTool
@OhioPowerTool Месяц назад
Under the XR branding on the batteries they actually still do say POWERSTACK (pouch cells) or POWERPACK (new tabless 21700). So while they say they're simplifying and removing multiple names, they kept the multiple names just made them smaller. The XR 5.0Ah will continue as POWERSTACK but new XR 8.0Ah will be POWERPACK... Hopefully as they move forward this will be less and less of a focus as technology updates all the time. XR will be the latest and greatest and they can demote the tech being replaced to just standard 20V Max.

@El_Diablo_LI 18 дней назад
@@OhioPowerToolThey definitely aren't clearing things up with the new PowerPack name because it sounds very similar to Powerstack. I fully understand the difference and advantages of each, but to many of the casual users out there, and even to many of the professionals, it is very confusing and they might not know or understand the differences, or possibly think they are the same. But they are not! So with that being said, the new XR PowerPack line of batteries are definitely better than the old XR and Power Detect batteries, so any improvement to batteries that help the tools perform better, is a positive step forward. So I'm not complaining. It's just that DeWalt doesn't make it easy to understand because the naming standards are so close they will confuse many users. But that's DeWalt. 🤦🏻

@OhioPowerTool
@OhioPowerTool Месяц назад
Dewalt does love their 12" Miter Saws. No word on a cordless 10", jumps right from the 7-1/4" 20V to 12" 60V. Would also be shocked is they did a cordless 8-1/2" before a 10" miter saw but crazier things happen.

So how many batteries will they offer lol will the power stack work on the flex volt?
@OhioPowerTool
@OhioPowerTool 14 дней назад
On the 20V platform they will only have (2) types of batteries: 20V MAX and XR. Power Stack will fall under the XR umbrella and is not going away. Any older FLEXVOLT ADVANTAGE tools will still work with a 20V battery, but the FLEXVOLT ADVANTAGE line is also going away. The 20V tools will now only have (3) lines: 20V MAX, Atomic Compact, and XR. Check out our blog linked in the description for a more thorough breakdown or feel free to give us a call if you have any other questions!

@ns_racing
@ns_racing Месяц назад
The new battery is tabless 21700 cells. Suppose to deliver more power and runtime
@OhioPowerTool
@OhioPowerTool Месяц назад
Not a problem, why we are here. Flexvolt which is running at 60V MAX is still top dog. If same tools are available in 20V XR and 60V FlexVolt then the 60V should always be more powerful, such as 5" grinders and recip saws. Some of the bigger tools that require more power are only going to be available in 60V such as larger SDS-Max hammers or 9" concrete saw DCS692. The FlexVolt line bridges the 20V tools with the larger equipment coming with PowerShift so we expect them to go heavier on FlexVolt if anything. Yes. XR PowerPack will be newer tabless 21700 cells. Many of the "current XR batteries" will actually drop the XR name and just be standard 20V Max. Technically the PowerStack is just going to XR PowerStack (with the PowerStack name will be much smaller)... So yeah still a little muddy and not dropping any names in battery lineup.

where does flexvolt fit in ?
@OhioPowerTool
@OhioPowerTool Месяц назад
The 60V FlexVolt tools will remain unchanged and will (for the most part) always be more powerful than the 20V MAX XR tools. There could be a small time period where an 20V XR tools edges out a 60V (say a saw or grinder) but that would just mean a newer FlexVolt is coming really soon and tech has probably in that category has improved rapidly. The FlexVolt tools are all about maximum power, more likely to be larger, heavier and likely more expensive. Where the 20V Max Tools with XR batteries can match standard corded tools, we are now getting into a realm where 60V FlexVolt tools and certainly new 60V PowerShift Tools are going to be able to outperform what is possible from anything 120V corded.

Should have made a router that fit the same bases the plug-ins do much like the trim routers. So basically just some re-branding as XR started years back as a way to differentiate the 1.5 Amp/Hr from the 2 Amp/Hr as extended runtime. It would be one thing if they had CR as higher performance batteries, like say those with 21700 vs 18650 cells but they’re still bending the 2 and 5 amp/hr batteries as XR when frankly these should just be the standard battery at this point.
@OhioPowerTool
@OhioPowerTool Месяц назад
That is the plan moving forward, 18650 and standard 21700 will be rebranded to standard 20V MAX while the Pouch "POWERSTACK" and 21700 Tabless "POWERPACK" will be the XR 20V MAX. The 3.0, 4.0 and even 10Ah will no longer say XR on them. We agree on the routers, wounder if it's because so many router tables and CNCs are setup to handle these corded units they didn't want cordless units going in and powering down mid-job?

This has fixed absolutely nothing while adding labels on top of old labels. Get rid of all these names. Just put a honest to goodness Professional chrome badge on any tool and battery that is built to take a beating and give it a little longer warranty coverage. All batteries need a simple label that says the Amp Hour “Capacity”, Peak Wattage “Performance”, and if it’s a pack or cell. All batteries should have Bluetooth as a standard feature with how much they’re asking.

Is 12v Xtreme discontinued?
@OhioPowerTool
@OhioPowerTool Месяц назад
12V Xtreme and 60V FlexVolt remain unchanged and both still have a solid place within the Dewalt lineup. But cleaning up 20V to focus on Atomic and XR needed to be done. If they really wanted to make it simple, we wouldn't hate it if they had 12V follow the same format with "12V XR" as the premium 12V option but nothing like that has been said to us.

@rosedoggydog
@rosedoggydog Месяц назад
@@landonfilms8660 hmm.. Now we'll have to see a comparision video between flexvolt batteries vs powerpack in flexvolt adavantage tools. A 8ah Powerpack vs a 9ah Flexvolt 20/60. Unless DW plans on making the batteries in a 6ah, this is the closest comparrision we'll get. I doubt they'll make a 6ah PP (I could be wrong) because their Power Detect lineup needs the 8ah XR currently to do its thing. Either way at we'll now be able to get Lowes and Home Depot to price match either now.
@OhioPowerTool
@OhioPowerTool Месяц назад
XR tool will perform very similar with current PowerStack and FlexVolt as with new XR batteries in the field. There will be small incremental changes but probably not enough to notice. The big push here is to clean up the branding names. Tabless batteries for XR will last longer and charge faster and overall the way to go for next battery purchase but similar peak watt performance to other premium batteries out now.

All this confusion with branding/tech that needs to be dead simple on top of the super expensive battery prices is the reason why I stay away from DeWalt tools - they don't seem to understand the needs of the market - simplicity, reliability, performance and compatibility with older tools. Who wants to spend the $$$ on a battery that may not even work with another tool that they come up with in a year or so?? All these mixed matching constantly revolving branding tells you that the company is off track and they don't seem to know what they're doing.
