Sad to see there is no longer raytraced reflection on top of rich head like last time they were physically together in a hotel room. Now his head just seems to use a simple secular cube map, proper retro style, although it does add a lot of believablility to how round the head is

It's interesting that it isn't compatible with PSVR2. The layout and perspective is exactly the same as the PSVR1 version, so it looks natural to be a PSVR2 compatible game as well - but there's no mention of it. (likewise the PSVR1 game could also have worked as a flat game as well).
A note to anyone who reads this and think IGN are changing anything, they aren't . They're a partner, DF owns themselves. They can leave if they wanted to and said they would if IGN choose to interfere with how they do things.
@@ewerton8463 They never were. They were partners with Eurogamer, eurogamer was bought by IGN, so now DF is partners with IGN. DF is still independent.
Yeah, I thought that, too. Probably down to not having a delay between responses and Rich not needing to play the role of a moderator as much as a result.
The reactions to Astro Bot are really taking me back to when the first LittleBigPlanet came out on PS3 and everyone was just in awe of how something like a charming platformer could come out and make a statement about being so refreshing aesthetically and tonally in a year defined by games like Metal Gear Solid 4 and GTA 4. It's great that Sony gave a game like this its moment because it definitely evokes a lot of what made PS1-3 so experimental from a games perspective That and we straight up do not have many big first-party platformer stuff that isn't Nintendo these days outside the indie scene so Sony throwing their hat in the ring and going all in on Astro Bot after how good Playroom was is really cool
Games like Astro Bot have really been missing from PS5. PlayStation closed a lot of their studios that used to make these quirky games and it's been the same generic third person open world very serious narrative from nearly every game PlayStation has released. Astro Bot is a much needed breath of fresh air and I wish PlayStation had more of these. RIP Japan Studio in particular 😭
I like the usual format, but the chemistry and familiarity you guys have with each other comes through more in person. The way you expressed yourselves had more nuance and comfort to it this time around.
The lack of coverage for The Talos Principle 2 was criminal - even on PS5 this game is one of the very best looking, most visually pleasing and stunning artistically game of this Generation!

@@stevenuss1482games are better today than they ever were, you must be on some heavy dose of nostalgia copium. An 8/10 indie now is better than 80% of games before 2000.
Hell yeah! Boys are back together. You could record on a hand camcoreder in a barn and it would be as valuable as it is, but it is nice to see a refresh of the format from time to time, to break the monotony.
Why they haven't ported Astro Bot Rescue Mission over to PSVR2 still baffles me. I'd love a new one, but I wouldn't mind playing the original again on the far superior headset. Hell, I'd pay for it again. Sony has a way of making me buy their games over and over again.
Recuse mission is one of my favorite VR games of all time. I would have loved a port or just wished that this one was in VR. But I understand that it's basically wasted time for them to work on the psvr 2
They know they failed the device when they made it use fresnel instead of pancake lenses like this generation leaders use (Quest, Pico) and also pentile non-rgb OLED with half resolution compared to rivals :facepalm
Are any of the camera’s mirrored? Feels weird that you’re all looking to the right, almost seems like you’re not looking at each other when talking. Dunno why, but couldn’t ignore it lol
I’ve heard DF comment that PS4 Pro was the introduction of HDR. I seem to remember a software update on my base PS4 that introduced HDR while playing Resident Evil 7, at the time.
I love the Infinite Warfare appreciation - it's by far the best CoD campaign and one of the better sci fi shooter campaigns of that generation, never understood the hate for that game. Visually amazing too.
2 hours of unskippable cutscenes in a 5 hour game might have something to do with it... At least for me, personally, that's what keeps me from wanting to replay it. Not to mention even attempting the permadeath mode.
ı think those kill dead space. for ı know glen scolfield left for to work cod for space theme . he was not on dead space 2 and 3. he worked cod game before infinte warfare. smilarr spacy future theme.
They can’t take COD off of GP or not offer it day/date. People forget that it was a major factor in them allowing the deal to go through and legal commitments were made. There was never a doubt it was coming to and staying on GP not to mention I doubt they’d risk billion dollar fines and the possibility of the whole ABK deal being unwound for COD. This is also why we won’t see new tiers or significant price increases beyond inflationary levels. All of that were concerns of regulators to which Microsoft made assurances. Plus it would affect the chances of making any acquisition they’d want to pursue for any part of Microsoft.
Did you even watch last week's video? They literally said IGN only took over the former company's stake, and that DF is free to leave at any point. How could IGN make DF not "stay?" They don't control them.
I think the more realistic perspective about Hermen Hulst' statement is that the reason why they delay the PC versions is to stop PS5 players from leaving the platform and moving to PC. It kinda makes way more sense when you think about it that way.
That's exactly the reason. The people that would leave PS the soonest are probably the biggest spenders as well as they can afford a $1500 gaming PC. Sony just worded it less defensive
It's possible but they can't say that as it would suggest that they know the PC platform is better, but when you think about it, if you need to use exclusives as a selling point, they are kinda suggesting the PS5 can't stand on its own feet. Say what we want about the PC, it doesn't need exclusives shoved down our throats to convince us to buy into the platform, people buy into it either because it's a better platform or they prefer it. Either way, with how many games being released now, it's hard to care about a few exclusive games when there are too many games and not enough time, we should also remember that the PC gets by far the most exclusive games of any platforms, this is more of a choice by the development team then it being forced like Sony and Nintendo does. The irony is that I don't think it would have a negative impact on PS5 if their games were released on PC at the same time as PS5, Sony would likely make a lot more money than they are doing on PC, and in the end, PC and console gamers are different and want different things, I prefer playing keyboard and mouse and want a locked 60fps at my given resolution and visual settings, the PC offers me that, whereas with consoles, you are at the mercy of what the developers give.
Does the fact that you are now part of the IGN empire mean that you are going to have to massively dumb-down your content and rate no game lower than a 7 out of 10?
45:30 I disagree with John. Many people have argued about how Maria should represent what James goes through (some "repression" stuff without going into detail), but her outfit is what we should be discussing the least. What's important about the character of Maria is first and foremost her personality: as long as they keep her flirtatious and needy, that's all that matters. That's what makes Maria important in contrast to what we know of her character and what she is. Let's not forget her outfit in the original is just Christina Aguilera in 1999, and devs chose it because they liked it lmao
@@FenderUsa A myriad of reasons come to mind: maybe just reusing the same outfit Christina Aguilera wore in the 1999 Kids' Choice Awards wasn't very original. Maybe it has to do with the story. Maybe it's unlockable after beating the game. Etc... Whatever the reason, it's minor compared to what makes Mary the character that she is. Fixating on whether we see her bellybutton is redundant.
7:17 you guys... This video is breaking the 180 degrees camera rule so much that it hurts my head 😅. You camera setup looks incorrect which is causing that. Funny for a channel that you are so picky when it comes to graphics in video games.
I didn’t know about the 180 rule till now now that I know I can’t rewatch the video without noticing it, amazing stuff just as the podcasts themselves the comment section is just as good!
Very interested in Astro bot, I liked Rescue Mission and PlayRoom. Hope they can make and introduce many unique levels. Maybe not on the level op mario bros wonder, but still I expect good things.
I felt so bad when we got to see the devs in the Concord video. I imagine that many of them are proud of their work, and they clearly have plans for the future, but I expected the Internet would not be kind to it. And sure enough, oof. I was briefly holding out hope that it would maybe a single player squad-based game trying to have Guardians of the Galaxy energy (basically the GotG game but less linear) which... might have been passable, but when they said it was 5v5 multiplayer, oof.
@ThisisCitrus -- They said that IGN doesn't have controlling interest in DF. But, IGN is a big company. They can leverage their size and pull to convince enough shareholders to do anything they want to do if they can justify it to the board. So, do not delude yourself into thinking they aren't influential.
@@MarkMcDaniel omg all y'all ever do is cry. You know nothing. They literally have patreon they control. Ign couldn't do anything. Y'all kids say the darnest things
Usually we'd get one of these in person DF directs a year, usually when they meet up for a trade show of some sort. I think they did one from a hotel room for uh... Gamescom some time? I forget. But yeah, always a special occasion!
Feels weird than Rich is lookin “to the left” to look into guys’ eyes, and the guys are looking “to the left”. Very weird. And disturbing. And not having a cut of a room where all three are visible feels uncomfortable.
Game devs, NEVER advertise/showoff your product with a per-rendered cut scene/cinematic..... SHOW OFF WHAT YOUR GAME ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE!!!!!!! Anybody remember the pre-rendered ads for ACII, they looked almost like games do in engine now......... It is literally false advertisement at a certain point...
From Software have incredible cinematic trailers that are actually very important for story & lore and are really enjoyable for fans to watch. You can do both, I would just agree that if you have a working build that is good enough to do a gameplay trailer, you should prioritize that over a cinematic trailer. But there is nothing wrong with an announcement trailer for a game years away (Elden Ring the example here) or something cinematic after they have already shown off gameplay (Elden Ring dlc being the example).
@@YuriMomoiro That's fair, I can agree with that, "must disclose a per-rendered cinematic/scene" when advertising a game. That should be easy for studios to do..
I think there is room for a mix of both. The pre rendered stuff is just marketing and sets the tone. I like it, but also actual gameplay within the same trailer is the ideal for me.
It's unlikely that Astro Bot will come over to PC as the use of the DualSense in Astro's Playroom was so in depth, you'd assume they'd use it even more so in a full fledged title Bringing it over to PC would probably require the use of a DualSense, with Sony having to make sure the game & drivers support the full functionality of the controller to put it on STEAM. Add to that, that it's a Japanese game, & it makes it seem Even less likely. Especially since the main draw of this game is from the excitement of people who played Astro's Playroom
Well, at least the drivers are there. All the dual sense features work perfectly in PC. But I doubt they will catch most of the market share without supporting normal controllers, making it worth less. But, normal controller support may already be in because of accessibility reasons right on play-station as well. Especially since it's a full fledged title and not just a demo.
@Jonathan-fw6ty Their point is that most PC players likely don't own a dualsense in the first place so experiencing this game as intended would require an additional $70 buy in.
If you were the X-Men and friends, clearly Richard is Charles Xavier, Tom is Gambit, Alex would be Cyclops, and John would be Beast. But who is Oliver... 👀
ICO and Silent Hill 2 are two of my favourite PS2 generation games. I have them on disc in my collection. Playing them both for the first time in one day sounds like a great day.
Nice room gentlemen. I still miss John room with blue color sectors from Doom PS1. Stay RETRO. edit: John made an excellent point in 45:20. I must say, I kinda curious if Bloober Team even played the original Silent Hill 2 to begin with. Is very very strange dumb decisions.
The PS5 controller works perfectly on PC as long as it’s plugged in. Unfortunately Sony are too stupid to release an official dongle to support wireless play with full haptics.
@@superbadisfunmy What a child like response without any substance. Both Sony and Microsoft have said that console sales have peaked and they both predict less sales this year. Look at Nintendo if you wanna play their games and you don't want to deal with piracy and emulators you have to buy their systems.
It's far more due to the current economic climate, still having cross gen support 4+ years after launch, the underwhelming performance of the new gen consoles, the new consoles not having many "killer" exclusives and now being halfway through a generation, when console sales always taper off anyway. There no real incentive for a lot of people to even upgrade from a last gen console. And most of those people that had the incentive to upgrade to one, have already done so.
@@fafski1199 I agree with all that as well except I don't think the consoles are under performing. I think the software and the change in the way work is done caused by the pandemic is a big problem. That said with Sony aiming to release all their software on PC either day one or a year later it will continue to cause harm to the sales of their hardware like it already has Microsoft.
@@shredenvain7 Neither the PS5 or Series X has the "Wow!!" factor like previous gens did. There just not much in the way of bait on the hook, to lure customers into taking a bite. That goes for both the quality of the exclusive games released on them so far and the hardware that is inside them (which is already struggling, BTW). Like I said, there no incentive for people to jump ship from last gen, especially when most games are still being released on them and many customers are on a tight budget. Releasing thier games also on PC, is just trying to make up some cash for that shortfall in console sales. It's more like band aid for an ongoing injury. It wasn't the cause of the injury and ain't going to miraculously heal it, but it's probably going to temporary stop you from bleeding out.
This is wonderful! You gathered like this in the same room have changed the way you communicate with eachother and it’s so much smoother and natural! I love this change!!
