DFAM | How to Tempo Sync your Synth with Ableton using CV Tools 

You really should highlight the need to use 'floating ring' 1/4" to 1/8" cables when using a DC coupled interface. I know people who have damaged their expensive interface. I don't have Push, so I just bring my audio in on a simple Live Audio track. You don't need to use an 'external instrument device'.

I could really do with some help and thought my experience might help others. This video was a huge help to me and started me off on a path of solutions. So thank you for that. I followed the instructions to a T and I didn't have any luck. I'm using an RME Babyface pro and using the stereo out mini headphone output 3/4. I got all the routing correct as well as the levels. I tested it by plugging the same output into a Korg Volca Sample. It jumped around all over the place until I turned down the volume but then it worked fine. I plugged it back into the DFAM but it refused to play. I used a Moog mono patch cable. Then I had a bit of a brain wave. I synced the Volca to Ableton live via the Midi out that's on the RME Babyface Pro and then patched the sync out of the Volca into the DFAM and it worked! I have to start the DFAM on the 1st step and it takes one cycle of 8 to kick in but it is synced. Sometimes the DFAM keeps playing when I press stop in Ableton but as long as I hit play in Ableton on step 8 it seems to lock again. One thing I have noticed is when I'm using the ADV / Clock input on the DFAM I get an extra click sound. It's only very apparent when I have a short VCA decay. Has anyone else noticed the same thing?

Can't do it from your interface if it doesn't have a dc coupled output like Focusrite. You'll have to use a midi/cv converter. But if you have a USB clocked synth, you can get the cv from there for clocking purposes

It seems that when using CV tools with the DFAM and Apollo Twin, the clock is dramatically triggered once reaching a certain frequency threshold. If the volume increases beyond 30% the clock is disrupted and triggered uncontrollably. Any ideas for a solution ??

would have been nice to see the potentially recorded waveform in order to check the sync. I guess the waveform will have its delay which has to be corrected. (same as you record a tr-8s or digitakt)

I don't understand where the minijack comes from ? where to connect it ?

How do I sync my DFAM to Protools?

I am using a Presonus 24C and all I hear is clicking coming form the left speaker. The DFAM never advances. Also the audio is really really soft coming out of the DFAM.

Doesn't work. I only can hear the clock in the midi channel. The sequence on the DFAM doesn't start when I plug in the cable and launch Live.

When I plug my 3.5 mm jack into the adv. clock, press run/stop on the DFAM, and then press play on Ableton, the DFAM doesn't start. I only hear clicking from the Ableton CV Clock out Plug-in. Has anyone else experienced this? Any help?

I use Presonus Studio 28/24. The synchronization works only at low level. If I turn up the volume control on the DFAM more than 30%, only crackling noises and all LEDs flash wildly. I have tried several settings in Ableton. Unfortunately without result ... Does anyone have a solution?

All of these questions, and no help from Moog (on any of their you tube tutorials). How about hiring someone to assist with social media? A little customer service would be appreciated.

what they don't mention here is that you have to manually advance the DFAM to the 8th step after EVERY TIME you hit stop in order for it to start at the beginning of the bar. And you also have to pull the patch EVERY TIME because the ADVANCE button doesn't work when the patch is in. It's a very inelegant and inefficient method and very disingenuous of Moog to omit that fact in this video. It's unforgivable that they don't have a better method for sync than this. Never buying a Moog product again. Great sound, but they're stuck in the 1970s when it comes to designing workflow. They also give you the stupidest, cheapest, crappiest power supply they could find.
