Dhokra Shilp is widely practised by the Ghadwa community of Bastar. It is one of the most distinguished crafts of Chattisgarh. It is also famous for its traditional lost-wax technique which has been carried forward for thousands of years of its origin. Artefacts similar to the present craft form have been discovered at the sights of Mohenjedaro and Harappa.

This requires so much effort, with so many different layers and mixtures that serve different purposes. You can tell this process is ancient not only by how primitive it is, but simply by the fact so many methods had to be perfected and experimented with until they got it right. This is one of the most impressive handmade works of art I've ever seen, and India's attention to detail and appreciation of beauty never ceases to amaze me. My favorite vase was Indian, made of brass with the most beautiful artwork etched into the sides by hand.
