Diablo 4 New Class Leaks \\ Is the Spiritborn a Nephalem?

Is the Spiritborn, the leaked 6th Diablo 4 expansion class, a Nephalem from Diablo 3? After researching the Diablo 3 Nephalem in more detail, noticing that we’ve already encountered the Nephalem in the form of Zir and the other Ancients, and Neyrelle’s familial fascination with Nephalem magic, I think there’s good reason that the Nephalem will play a big role in the class identity of the Diablo 4 expansion class, the Spiritborn.

Has no one brought up that the wings in the artwork look exactly like the pre-order emote wings given to players for purchasing the premium version of the game?

@RainsShadow5 I will never forget my favorite emote in all of Diablo 4! You’re making me want to rep that at a world boss 😎 that is a very good point, there is a close resemblance to the Spiritborn wings in the displate and the Wings of Inarius Emote! Thanks for your comment 😊

I may be off but I'm pretty sure the nephelam race was retconned in the lore because they were too powerful so they made downgraded the protag to a normal hero because the power creep of a true nephelam was just too much. So my theory is this class is a re-imagining of nephelam in a way that let's them be a part of modern events. When you get into D3 lore don't forget to look into the lore of Diablo Immortal. It fills in a couple gaps too. ✌️

Thanks @CrimsonNinroot , my initial analysis didn't draw anything conclusive on that front, but I've only scratched the tip of the iceberg. i saw your other comment about Rhykker's lore videos today, I'm going to look into that soon. definitely excited to fill in some of my lore gaps here!

Come to think about it, "spiritborn" could just mean a descendent of holy spirit, and have nothing to do with "spirit of nature" or "ancestral spirit". I guess this is pretty much the situation.

@Templerlord yes, that is a very good point! i am also thinking it is leaning this direction based on the displate art and everything else we've gleaned about the class identity. I'm still not sure how I feel about it all! Thank you for your comment

@@spopes232 No problem! I have a very long comment under Rhykker's video about this topic, I was trying to copy and share it here, but I can't find which video I commented 😅 So I typed it again here. There's another part of it. I was thinking both the Zakarum (that includes both Paladin and Crusader) and Cathedral of Light is in a pretty bad situation. We have seen both the champion of Paladins and Crusaders failed and died in D4. The moral of crusaders is very low and they pretty much stopped acting. On the other hand, almost all the elite knights from the Cathedral of Light marched with Inarius into hell and died there. Both of them are now extremely weakened, both strength wise and faith wise. With all these major religions going through their dawn fall, how to make a holy class without doing it OOC? The answer seems obvious - although I didn't think it that way before - you can have someone that is physically linked to the high heavens, and all problem solved. They don't need to follow the religions found by human, they are actually more close to the origin of these religions, so they will not have doubts and misconceptions. They also don't need to draw their strength from religious rites because their connection with holy power is actually more direct than that. And gameplay wise, they are probably the only lore friendly way to make a paladin - like class but make it distinct enough, since the current way of training a holy warrior pretty much only passed down by Zakarum faith and followed by the new Cathedral of Light. It's hard to make something like that from zero in a short time. But if this character is fundamentally different in their identity, it will make a lot of sense to discover new ways to fight with the power of light.

but they said explicitly at blizzcon its about nature magic. so no paladin in my eyes. an amazon/jungle theme - maybe.

@nataschajordan6053 would you mind providing a timestamp within this video where they mention the new class being centered around nature magic? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BwUpLn4eiBM.html in either case, the reddit datamine confirms that the spiritborn WILL have a lot of nature magic skills. so, maybe you can think of it as a paladin but with nature magic? after all, it won't be a straight "paladin." it's a new class identity. thanks for your comment!

@Templerlord thanks for taking the time to write this out again! Yes! a physical link to the high heavens, aka "spirit"+"born"! almost like how Anakin was a "vergence" in the force. I have hope that Blizzard has been cooking up the spiritborn since considerably before D4 launched. The way you've contextualized it in the decline of the major religions is key, i think. The spiritborn is like a religious revival in itself, an avatar born from the Holy Spirit! So cool, I really appreciate your insight. Hope you see you around again!
