Hell, at those prices they should just put up a share incentive plan on top of the in-game shop to make it worth your while to spend ridiculous sums on character power.
Just a brief summary: You don't have to play every game until the very very end. Play a game a little bit, get bored, move on to a new game or thing like regular human beings. Frankly, there's a lot out there. Problem solved, zero money spent on Diablo Immortal.
@@VesperAegis That's a very narrow viewpoint that doesn't reflect current gaming. The sole appeal of many games is how they keep growing and evolving over the years.
@@VesperAegis that's a pretty shit argument. that's like telling people "just don't get addicted to heroine" obviously most aren't going to. but then normalize taking heroine what do you think is gonna happen?
I'm not defending Diablo immortal, but people at the other end of the spectrum such as yourself aren't helping gamers either. Let me guess. You don't think any game deserves a single penny from you. All the hours of gaming experience in your entire life should be free of charge to you. No game developer should ever be paid a single dollar. Right? This is the kind of consumer mentality that gave birth to "Free to play" games in the first place. If there is a good game that you've enjoyed for hundreds of hours, of course it's worth $60-$100, maybe even more. You're just cheap or broke and it shows in your mentality. Now you get the kinds of games you deserve. Go play them for "free".
@@user92714 I don't mind paying for games, but you are just absurdly dull to think that a game like Diablo immortal should even exist with such practices, it does nothing but set back the industry

If you're talking about asmongold and quin, I think what they did was good and bad. The bad, obviously, is giving money to blizzard. The good being that many people will never ever give blizz their money now, realizing what a third-rate, cash grab company they have become that even after spending 10k, you're still not fully decked out. That 10k spent has engraved that into my brain.
"Your death heals party members for 2% of their life" That's probably the most depressing and unintentional (or intentional) "F*ck you, you worthless trash" description of a buff. And the fact that it's on a rare or legendary gear adds more insult.

@@Sector9Prime Conversely, by playing it and showing how BS the monetization is, many people would be inclined to NOT play the game, causing a much bigger loss to Blizzard than they would gain from 1 semi-whale shelling out $500. So long as they’re encouraging viewers not to as well, I don’t think it’s huge problem imo.
Asmongold had spent $349 on Diablo Immortal already. They're basically a company that exists to get their hand into your wallet. The games that do get designed under them are not games first monetization later, its the opposite. And I see this with immortal.
I hate all these guys saying "Diablo Immortal is LITERALLY evil! Blizzard should not be doing this!" yet they still spend hundreds of dollars on the game which directly incentivizes Blizzard to keep doing this.
Blizzard would love for nothing more than this game to be not talked about whatsoever. Just completely uncontroversial. The few thousands these guys are spending to demonstrate what a predatory design this game has, is a drop in the bucket to the millions upon millions of dollars that Blizzard is raking in, and the absolute billions per year that the mobile game industry is already making. But what spending that money allows them to do is start up a public controversy similar to what we had with Battlefront 2, which ultimately lead to Belgium and the Netherlands passing bills that outlaw this kind of monetisation. That's also why Diablo Immortal isn't playable in those countries unless you're on a VPN. Asmongold ended up spending like $2200 on Diablo Immortal to show us how fucking ridiculous it is. If that money goes towards making more countries aware of this and passing laws like Belgium and the Netherlands did, that shrinks the exploitable market even further and eventually forces this predatory monetisation out of games entirely.

Dude, great video editing. When maxing a character cost 100000$ and more, even the game is fun and all, we would be shooting in the foot of all future gamers to support that crap. Next 5 years will be a million to cap a character? Gamers should gives each other heads up about those kind of practices, its not for our interest. More people hear of that crap, the more they should realise just how bad it is for future of gaming.
I mean to max out on runescape in like a month or two would cost you about 15k, and thats just getting skills to 99, getting them to 120 and then 200m max xp would be 8x the cost. Do we play games to just spend money on maxing day 1? There are plenty of ways to max out over time if you just...well idk play the game. (btw ive been playing runescape for years since 2003, and ive still yet to max xp on my main but I still find the game fun even knowing someone out there could spend 100k and finish it before me. Quon is 10k in for ONE SLOT.. and it is still not maxed :D Id say hes gonna need about half a million dollars, then theres some other stuff too and THEN he can finally start pushing paragon and challenge rifts to be a top player.

The saddest part is that the game underneath all the predatory monetization is actually pretty good. If it was a normal free to play game or even buy to play without the game actively trying to make you feel not welcome after about 40 levels it would be a good game. Nothing revolutionary (besides maybe on the mobile gaming market) but still decent. Now all we get is an unplayable cash-grab and a scary precedent for future free-to-play games.
Exactly how I felt, I had a load of fun (Except the level gaps that felt like unfinished campaign) playing through to 60 and finishing the campaign. Now it feels that I will never really progress, yes I can grind paragon and get good legendaries but I get like 1... ONE Legendary Crest per week or two... thats insane if you count how many thousands of those Quin has already spent with money and never got a 5\5 star gem.. I think he didnt even get a 4\4 star..
Isn't it par for the course as far as mobile games and monetization? I have 0 interest in mobile games, but from what I've seen, they all try to leverage FOMO and addiction as hard as they can.
"the game underneath all the predatory monetization is actually pretty good". Yet this game comes with monetization at its core. Make no mistake, everything "good" about this game has been put there with the intent of making you addicted and wanting to pay. I mean you gotta take the intent as a whole. There is no "other" game underneath. The whole game has been made, by a specific company, with a specific intent. Of course they won't release something that doesn't feel "good" to play.

Amazing video! I feel you bro… sadly people have already spent thousands of dollars on this which kind of vindicates Blizzard’s decision. This is how games are going to be now in the west (been that way in Asia for a while). It sucks but I think it’s unstoppable.
I saw another video where they call out Quin for spending like 13k on the game. He tends to be a bad gamer, and a bit immoral so I am not surprised he threw his wallet at the game to make up for his deficiencies. He has a lot.

okay so i did some research because people are saying the usual gacha games like FGO, GBF, Genshin (as Forbes wrote) are better than Diablo Immortal. That shocked me because that means Diablo Immortal fucked up elsewhere massively. Here's from a mobile gamer perspective (i played on PC and mobile btw) : 1. Legendary Crests are just like your usual gacha rolls but with extra steps like clearing the rift first. so far it's the usual deal. 2. Battle Pass on top of that, Honkai Impact did this also but not a deal breaker on the surface until you see the battle pass level up purchase, Even Master Duel did not do it like that and IIRC Honkai Impact 3 does not do Battle Pass upgrade purchase either AKA you gotta grind them by playing 3. In-game Store has something that irked me. You saw the +800% Extra Value at 0:09. other items also have this +???% Extra Value, why emphasize this unless the target is to trigger spending with these value numbers 4. Boon of Plenty and Prodigy's Path feels like you have 3 Battle Passes in game. all have paid options 5. The rates to get a 5/5* gem and the others is not shown directly in game, that is a bad sign there from the get go and Blizz did it first with Overwatch and remember they don't want to reveal the rates at all to the point that the chinese players gets a different MTX scheme instead because China mandated that the rates be shown totally 6. The design decision to make players can upgrade 2*/5 gem until 5*/5 gem is clearly aiming for a pay to win scheme here, usually if you get a 3* it stays 3* forever but you can maximize for something like a 3* only squad but this is not that kind of game 7. Farming Eternal Orbs or Legendary Crest is almost impossible when compared to other games where you can hoard your premium currency (like Saint Quartz for FGO) for a rainy day WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY later (read : sudden target banner or limited banner) 8. Hidden caps, as Forbes wrote there are hidden caps like lower exp or a lower drop rate once you get to a certain point per day. Actively hindering your players everyday? wow........ Conclusion : Too many Monetization schemes that is built so deep and game design decisions that supports this type of monetization seems to be the main culprit alongside "Pay to Skip Grind" solution that is offered. No wonder people call Diablo Immortal WAAAAAY worse that the other games, and that is coming from a day 1 player of FGO.
When dumpster fires like these come out you really start to question whether anyone working at these massive companies know what they’re doing, like their genuine competence is unworthy of belief.
"dO yOu gUyS nOt hAvE pHoNes?!?" It's astonishing how disconnected some developers are from their fanbase, let alone the gaming industry as a whole. It doesn't take a genius to understand their demographic is dominantly PC players, and dropping a mobile game is beyond underwhelming for their fans. Even if the game is fucking flawless, mobile games will always be secondary to console and PC. People generally don't like playing games on a tiny touch screen, this is why extra peripherals for phones and emulators are made.
I dont even think its his fault. it all began when Activision took over. It was a slow killing but here we are now. They increased their pressure over time. Like dropplets a lot of veteran developers fled. All thats left is a zombie that looks like blizzard and the fans cant shoot it because they are too sentimental of the good times.

Those streamers are part of the problem. They don't have to spend a single cent to make the point about this game. Yet they feed blizzard a few k the the viewers are donating etc. That's even more disgusting as spending it by yourself.
I had to look up what an Omega Aqua Terra is. I would say that is just as useless as a purchase. Well, I guess I'd rather steal someone's Omega Aqua Terra than steal someone's phone with a $7k Diablo Immortal purchase, there's that.

I'm absolutely baffled about the fact that some people actually thought this game would be at least decent after the "do you guys not have phones?" disaster.
You know what, I loved Diablo, the first one is still my favorite. Replayed 1 & 2 tons. I know people say the gameplay is good or that its only the microtransactions are ruining a great game... but no, every bit of gameplay i've seen just looks utterly bland and soulless. I think this game is only alive because the microtransactions are so hot to talk about, if not that it would've talk about post game and builds. I see no atmosphere or intruiging maybe even risky shakeup to the hack n slash formula so I look on as people whale on this. I used to think the Butcher's room was the most terrifying and disturbing thing Diablo as a series had to offer.
Agreed. Don't know why so many people say it would be amazing without the microtransactions. It's mostly a worse version of Diablo 3. The fact that it plays well for a phone game doesn't change that.
I'm a long time diablo player (20 years), thousands of hours across all the titles easily and I won't touch this cancer fucking bait and switch even if it free to play or has decent early game. I will not reward this behavior with my time or money.
