Psycho Flash While I do very much prefer Diablo 1, I will admit that a lot of nostalgia is involved. People who started with Diablo 2 or 3 will usually find it rather hard to embrace Diablo 1 because the gameplay mechanics have improved so much over time. I would love to see a good remake and prequel made that successfully conveys the same gothic atmosphere as the original.
Fuck the new silly Blizzard designs. They ruined Diablo and Warcraft with that. Diablo 1 still has the best design of world and sounds. While I also liked Diablo 2 and the improved gameplay the gore was worse then in Diablo 1. Killing goat men and zombies is much more fun with the splatter. And enemies like the Hidden where the heads splat into their blood puddle. Wish there would be a Diablo 2 mod with Diablo 1 gore.
That feeling of playing diablo 2 the first time, and going to tristram only to see corpses and bones of NPC's that defined your childhood gaming experience
D1 and D2 are better then D3 period. In Diablo 2 for example at the end when fighting Baal my hand was sweathy beacuse I had to be carefull and always look at my health bar , wich made Diablo 2 in a way , harder then Diablo 3. Thats just an example of a mechanic in D2 that made it hard and also awesome. Yue feel that feeling of fear before you enter and fight a boss.
Diablo 1 , together with Hexen: Beyond heretic, is probably the best representation of "hellish" atmosphere in gaming to date...while there are other good representations of infernal themes they are always more on the "gore" "comedic" "exagerate" side of things. Onlyl the two aforementioned titles really managed to deliver what an actual invasion of creatures from hell would possibly feel like; that haunting feel that seems to stagnate on the walls of the catacombs, the atmospheric music, the stench of every texture..worked really so perfectly. In the end it was not the oversimplified nature, the (at launch) real money marketplace, or the constant internet connection that made me not like Diablo 3 nearly as much; it was the atmosphere. I still play Diablo 2 occasionally, definitely more then Diablo 1, but that is only because of the multiplayer and for the efficiency of it's gameplay, because otherwise Diablo 1 reigns supreme to me, because i value immersion and atmosphere above everything else..even gameplay at times.
Yes, the cartoon graphics are so inappropriate. Diablo universe is dark fantasy with gothic elements. Blizzard are fools if they considers kids don`t like mature games. When I played Diablo 1 (my first game) I was a kid and I was hooked very much. Why some idiot menager from Blizzard decides kids like graphics "for kids".
That's part of what added the athmosfere. The fact that you knew you couldn't outrun most of your enemies (and especially not the Butcher) makes it so you are extra careful on finding and engaging enemies. Athmospheric horror is not the same if you don't actually feel endangered. D2 was a step back in THIS aspect because of high speed movement, potion spam and respawning when you died (except for Hardcore ofc).
1 2 > 3 D3 failed to live up the expectations, poor storyline and complicated graphics. No PK leads to no new continuity to find new items after beating the boss. D2 has great story line and people will continue to farm items 5,10,20 yrs after its release for godly PK. D1 is nostalgic and great story line.
I love the lighting and art style of Diablo 1 and 2. As other people have said Diablo 3 is too cartoony for me. They borrowed to much equipment from their wow team :/ not that I blame them.
Diablo 1 still rules with it's athmosphere, ambiance, story and it's music. D3 looks nice but it doesn't feel like diablo. It has elements of diablo 1 and that's it.... And characters in D1 :D Love going to Griswold and Decard Kain. Every character was special in it's way :)
Diablo 1 Pros and cons: Pros: Bad graphics suit this game well, Diablo 1 gets the trophy. I get nostalgia every time I play it on my computer. Cons: Some of the quests are hard when you are just starting the game, The (original) Butcher quest was just... no. And with almost all games made 2007 downwards, there was manual saving, which is a BIG con. And of course you can only use two spells (WHICH DOESN'T CHANGE IN D2 WTF) Diablo 2: Pros: Diablo 2 has a excellent storyline unlike Diablo 3, (blizzard you should have made it with the SAME graphics not modern graphics.) Cons: Only two spells allowed at a time (Why didn't they change this yet) .The game is very easy to hack and modify. Diablo 3: Pros: None Cons: Everything. About. This. Game. It's like they made this game for kids, it's so colorful, there isn't alot of gore, it's just, I think an 11 year old could play this, especially because of strategy, this game has none, they completely dumb downed this game.

I personally enjoy playing diablo 3 with my dad he's the one who helped me defeat the butcher for the first time and going back to tristram for third time and looming at all the buildings was really fun, but yea i can see why you wouldn't really like it that much
In diablo 2 I had to use all kinds of pots and spells even on normal,but in diablo 3 I beat the game with the demon hunter using only the machine gun crossbow skill(can't remember the name) and spamming pots. Not a better game at all and where did the putting points into skills go to huh? End game everyone has the same shit but in diablo 2 fuck if i had every skill and the same armour as everyone else.
In Diablo 2 the cathedral of the Horadrim is burnt and destroyed to the ground... Guess they created a new (Tim Burton's look) cathedral in n.3, because they didn't have anything else in mind and they thought it would be cool to reenter.:p. They could also remake a wounded townsman figure that would say: Hey dude did you kill the Butcher?
btw i am not forced to be online in torchlight 2 and this game has not the same thing cc cd hp allres powerup and you are overpowered thats what makes diablo3 boring but its not the only fact the items are all shit i never picked up rare items in diablo3 because i know its a chance about 1:1000000 to get a good roll so thats another fact if i find a rare item in torchlight 2 i ifentify look and just thing hell yeah thats what i need
Well, 2 or 3 builds per class as I said :) CMWW can tank way better than barbarians on D3 too. Locked items or not, D3 has the "ultimate stuff" tier to reach, for each build and each character, you have the perfect item for each slot ... Locked or not doesnt matter. My point is just that D3 became drastically better recently , and that I'm sure that the expansion is going to make it almost as good as D2 + LoD. And I'm having great fun in Hardcore with my friends ! Cheers
Actually you must concern that D3 doesn't have any expansions and you have to compare it to D2 alone. in d2 then you had 4 acts, 3 having 6 quests, but most of them were skipped and 4th with only 3 q. in d3 # of quest is a looooooooot bigger, but quests are more in line, which i personally think is better to immerse in plot and in the world. Unique builds? Really? in d2 everybody were having same things and upgrading same stats and skills... in d3 at least you see ppl with difrent eq.
If you are talking about inneficient builds, then Diablo 3 is exactly the same. You have plenty of builds that aren't as efficient as the best one. But with recent patches, different spells have been buffed / updated in order to make some other builds viable. Blizzard / Archon / CMWW Wizards for example. Did you play D3 recently ?
This is awesome. Blizzard needs to have more rewarding experiences like this one. Sort of like how the tv show Community rewards the viewer who pays CLOSE CLOSE attention to detail!!!
Customisation ... Not so much. Everyone was running the same one or two builds (exactly like just right now in D3) before the synergies were added to the game (which was during LoD).
You're talking about LoD, which was Diablo 2's extension. Give some time to D3 for it to grow. If you really played D2 when it came out, I don't think you would be saying that. :)
I do not really mind the aesthetic changes made in d3 but I absolutely hate that they replaced the OG tristram theme ! It's like if you had scrapped the "He's a pirate" theme from the pirates of the caribbean saga, it doesn't make any sense !
Diablo and Diablo 2 I always had my map open...Diablo 3 I never opened it it's impossible to take a wrong turn in that game it also lacks large open areas. D1 keep map open in case of being overwhelmed and not taking a wrong turn into more mobs. D2 WHERE THE FUCK IS the Lost City!?!?! oh....that tiny little place I didn't check..... D3 lalalala rmb q q w r rmb rmb...... bad at using a potion belt? never fear only one potion on a CD here! dont know what stat to lvl? we will do it for you!
Inefficent builds? A Tankazon was nearly better than a Tank Barb, a Mage Pally did neutral Magic damage, and if something was immune against that he simply just used his melee. All of them works pretty well, even more so with Rune Word Items with the LoD Expantion. However Diablo 3 is nothing compared to Diablo 2. Weapons are locked to classes, items are locked, everything basically is locked to each class so you have to go with the same things that work, thats why Diablo 2 is way better.
Didn't play on the European Servers I guess, Hey look a Melee oriented Sorc, A melee Oriented Necro, a bow going Barb, a Amz going Tank, A paladin going holy light mage and so on, I have seen a ton of different builds before LoD even came out. If you clone someone elses build just because it works rather than doing what feels better for you, then you are not playing the game correctly. In Diablo 3 however you have not many choices, specially after Normal difficulty level.
Listen reeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaally carefully. D3's Tristram theme sounds almost identical to D1's. And were you ever in the first four floors of the Cathedral in D1? Often looked extremely blue, unless you were randomly loaded maroonish tiles, which you might've known that had you ever played it. Then again, you sound an awful lot like every other internet troll who brings up the saaaaaaame arguments repeatedly. Repeating them doesn't make them any more compelling ya know. Just saying......
Along with other similar games they sold for around the same price, I looked it up. And it's only a scam to people who are upset that D3 doesn't let you hack, break and cheat the game "legally" with power leveling, abusing social features and potion spamming so acing Hell Baal naked looks easy. I get what your point is, but actually I don't recall anyone being up in arms about D2. Every site I visited and all my clan in SC1 were just absolutely hyped about the game, especially after seeing tyreal concepts. However it was a completely different generation back then, there was no real sense of entitlement and the developers were very much in tune with what the fans wanted. It was different, but they added so much more ontop of D1 that it was impossible to be anything but excited.
Granted the butcher was hard but all of you who are writing Diablo 3 off as 'easy' and 'casual' seem a bit foolish. There's the equivalent amount of content in the current build to reach Blood Raven (little more probably) in Diablo 2, good gamers/players didn't die in that part of the game either... >< Let's write off a game as complete and total shit before we even get a chance to play the rest of it. -.-
What about the soundtracks? No tristram theme or something equivalent? Just some sound voidness. The second thing i don't like is the foggy atmosphere, the third thing is the architectural choices. Things look a bit cartooney. That's sad. Other than that, i like the dark atmosphere. But still. Did they have to choose a cartooney atmosphere? Is it to please young teenagers or something?
I always liked D1 better than D2, no matter how much I played it no matter how different or objectively better D2 was. I understand that you want something different than what D3 is, but that doesn't make it a bad game, it's good, maybe it doesn't live up to the expectations, but that doesn't make it bad.
Vanilla Diablo 2, we can't say D2 for it, since guess what there is a Game named D2, either way, Diablo 2 Vanilla was still better than Diablo 3 in most of our eyes, you had way more customization to your play style with the five main classes, which got fully changed in Diablo 3 which saddened a lot of people. So have to agree with choiiboly.
so you're saying d2 had their initial quests patched in? I'm not talking about game balances and bug fixes here people. i'm talking strictly play through and replay value. build diversity is not going to change with patches either. and for everyone saying they can reach end game in d2, try it without being rushed.
Yeah i agree with you I have no clue why choii boiy is getting thumbs up for such a odd statement but for many and including myself the issue is the Core Game elements such as -Music -Story -Character building and overall general "feel" of the game and these elements will not change no matter what expansions get introduced.
So what you're admitting is that D2:LOD got to a great state after xpac and patches, right? Well having learned what works and what doesn't, how is D3 such a royal piece of shit gameplay-wise? It's one thing to fix bugs via patches, and another entirely to need to revise gameplay because it's so fucking awful.
RMAH messed things up, design of the way skills worked was pasteurized in D3, everything was dependent on your weapon and gear. D2 you could specialize your guy to be good even in bad gear (with the right synergy's in your build). Also spell damage went up as you leveled the spell in d2, d3 all about the weapon you bought on the RMAH.
Diablo 2 was just so insanly good and unreachable for any other game. People expected too much out of d3 but one thing I already said while playing d3 beta was that everyone will be the same in endgame because of the low itemizations and the lack of a skilltree....and that´s how it is, everyone running the same builds looking for the same gearpieces :-/ boring.
Diablo 1 was on PS1. And the AH...D2jsp? They cut out the middle man and made it easier for people to trade gear for gold rather then having to go to a 3rd party site or sitting in a chat channel for mindless hours spamming the same shit forever then hope the other person didnt scam them. Want offline? Buy a PS3 and get the game.

Maybe it's just my eyes, but...Diablo 2 looks like the brightest of the three. Wasn't Diablo 2 supposed to have some "dark gothic" feel that Diablo 1 had? I mean, I play and love all three...but whenever people take shots at 3, they say it's cartoony and bright. Yet...Diablo 2 was immensely colorful. Very confusing is all, :-)
Still playing a game does not exempt you from nostalgia. I still play Mario 3 and all the way through I have to admit I am always blinded by nostalgia, because I tie that game so strongly to many fond memories. I do not know how I would feel about that game if I played it for the first time at this age (would probably still like it)
Replayed the video and what actually happens is that the uploader goes to Adria's hut by the top bridge (which in D3 is inacessible directly due to fallen tree trunk and departs via the south bridge into Town again. The correct path to mimic D3 would be to enter Adria's "island" by the south bridge and leave twards the Cathedral by the north one without returning to Town.
Or actually D3 is more like D1 than D2 ever was. Of course to be aware of that one really has to research D3 instead of shallowly criticizing. Not to mention Blizzard North was the ones that wanted D3 to be an MMO. Then they went on separate ways to make Torchlight and Path of Exile which funnily also have the same kind of graphics. Hating much?
Do you people know why music is shittier in d3 then back in d1...??? Because back then it was mostly rock/metal and now people are listening to other genres and not the real music therefore blizzard turned to orchestra.... back in SC and D1 most of blizz devs were rock/metal dudes etc... You get the idea...
They tried something different. This isn't a bad thing. One of the main problems people had with Starcraft II is that it plays TOO much like the original Starcraft. They could have basically remade Diablo II with a new story and engine and people would have liked that. But they've chosen to do something different. And seriously, one year on it's not a terrible game. They've made a lot of improvements, added more endgame (Just got my first Hellfire ring the other day :D), and are still doing more
If I were getting rushed I'd be able to get to end game in Diablo II, same as in Diablo III... Diablo II only has one more act, and that was AFTER an expansion. Most of the things people love about Diablo II were post-expansion. Not saying that Diablo II isn't the better one, but comparing them is like comparing a well established band to a band who just released their first album.
Uhhh, what? It took me less than 8 hours to hit level 75-80 on D2 LoD. D2 also has an expansion (hence just one more act), farming is pretty similar (although Diablo 3 has monster power, nephalem stacks, and of course player increases--- all of which increase mf, exp%, and gold find %), builds were not very unique (you over-exaggerate), the only big difference is in items which contain FHR/FCR/FRW/DR%/Block rate. AGAIN, this was in Diablo 2's EXPANSION. Diabo 3 is standalone currently.

Played plenty of d2 through the years, i used to be obsessed with d2. D2's play through without the expansion still took longer than d3's play through. I'm not talking about getting rushed through acts and power leveled. What's with the personal attacks? insecure much?
there are enough guide's how to reach lv 90 in 2 hours in D2... so. i take d3 always over D2. and i played a lot d2. but i dislike reading how so set my assa points correct. but if i dont read it, i will cipple my char, and have to play again. that is not replay value, thats bad design
Hey there, have you considered "Diablo 3 Maxout Turbo" (just search on Google for it ...)? On their website you will find a useful free video featuring how to speed run Diablo 3. It helped Jack to speed level through Diablo 3 and max out his character very quickly. It might help you out too...

if they would have taken all the elements and put into d3 and did not pull this always in the net shit d3 would have been epic, its fun cuz of the graphics update but d1 and 2 will always be epic to me. blizzard u fucked up so much of d3 that i hardly play it anymore and started playing d2 again.
Although I was disappointed with the beta. I think the PvP portion of D3 is going to be epic. I don't think the skeleton king is even the last boss for act 1. All of our memories of first walking into Diablo's lair or the Sanctuary are going to be renewed. It's going to be a great game.
@RMJ1984 Game looks sick while you're playing it. In truth people find too many reasons to complain about why this game isn't Diablo 1 or Diablo 2, but the gameplay does feel exactly like what most of us would want the next Diablo to feel like. Very fluid and action-packed.
nope, just a Diablo fan thats been with the series since the first one was released back in 97. I have an assumption that most never played a dungeon crawler before playing Diablo 3....i mean what did you expect? world of Diablo?
I wouldn't say a complete failure, I liked it, it is fun and it has good things. It doesn't live to the expectations of the series though. Hopefully with good enough patches and the expansions can reach that level of awesomeness

nothing forces you to use the AH. You can meet numerous farming people in the LFG channel or the Trade channel. So there nothing there you need to spoend 300-400 bucks for. D3 has improved pretty much everything the previous games had to offer.
Starcraft 1 to Starcraft 2 and Diablo 2 to Diablo 3... I liked the previous generation's depiction in graphics much better. Not hating on the new games but looks cartoonish and I would even make comparison of D3 and SC2 graphics to league of legends.
Some people don't seem to realise that D2 was a big departure from D1 as well and people were up in arms about it when it was released (ring any bells) but quickly got over it when they realised D2 was one of the best games ever made.
Its crazy because in 1996 we didn't have the technology to make nice graphics but they compensated by making great music/ambiance. Now in 2012 they have the beautiful graphics but they made shitty music and a crappy weird blue ambiance, like in a cartoon ...
Diablo 2 got more interesting additions and features, but at the same time it lost that Gothic atmosphere. Diablo 2 is a good game, but I would give an edge to Diablo 1. On the other hand Diablo 3 is a complete failure.
