Joy, in 2020 I had almost an identical experience and was finally diagnosed with idiopathic transverse myelitis which affected my cervical spine at C3-7. I could not walk or do anything with my arms and hands. I was grateful that I could speak normally but someone would have to feed me. In addition to the tests and treatments you had, I also had 5 days of plasmapheresis which removed 60% of my blood and cleaned it then was returned to my body. It has been a long journey but I am now about 80% recovered. I still have issues but my primary care and neurologist have prescribed medications that help with the pain. Transverse myelitis is rare and not curable but I have a great husband who has cared for me and I live a fairly normal life. My fine motor skills are the most affected now and probably will take much longer to improve. My best wishes for you, Joy, to continue improvement for your recovery. Thanks for sharing your story. Linda

I had an episode of TM back in Oct. 2012. It was really awful, I couldn't comprehend that they were telling me I only had a slim chance of recovery. I had 2 young children and that just wasn't acceptable. I worked really hard to overcome the nerve damage, I had a slow onset over about 3 weeks. The diagnosis was very frustrating bc it was idiopathic, a "virus" maybe...? No good answers which has always made me wonder if it will happen again. I got better over about a 6 month period, but continue 7 yrs later to have nerve pain (the lesion was on my cervical spine) and numbness in my palms. I'm very grateful for all the recovery and thank God every day that my life is mostly "normal." Keeping my faith strong got me through so many dark days. I pray for people going through this, and other terrible health conditions. God bless you.

@@josephsmitty-jo1oi I had IV steroids at the ER and I took them in pill form for several weeks and had to taper off. Physical and occupational therapy is what I did for about 2 months with nurses. I did a lot of exercises to help my nerves regrow and form new pathways around damage. I stayed busy all the time, kept my arms and hands moving. I still have to take meds for nerve pain, it has never fully gone away. It is a hard process and takes a lot of time and frustrating work. It’s been 11 years for me now. I will pray for your brother, it’s different for everyone bc it could happen anywhere on the spinal cord. Getting a diagnosis was one of the things that could have prevented a lot of damage but the ER kept sending me home. Hopefully he was treated quickly enough to prevent major damage. God bless you and your family.

I wish you a speedy recovery. I was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis back in October 2021 . I had all those test you had done. I was on a wheelchair for 2 1/2 months then transitioned to a walker . I feel very fatigued and a numbness and tingling sensation from my waist down. Burning sensation within my inner thighs. And an excruciating back pain. I’ve been doing fairly well with my physical therapy and little by little started to gain my balance. Although it’s not 100% there yet . Haven’t been able to feel my feet I feel like they are buckled and with tightness. It’s so hard just to know this is something that literally happened overnight. Since my diagnosis I have pain all day everyday at times I feel a burning sensation. Just taking it one step at a time. I also been doing a lot of research about this diagnose . That’s how I came upon your channel. I love your good spirits and positive vibe. I hope you are recovering well and keep doing videos of your Journey with Transverse Myelitis it’s not an easy one but will get through it in God’s name.

This came on little by little then was worse. I spent 10 mos in the hospital and 3 months in rehab which I can now sit up by myself and move my legs, which I couldn’t do that before..so I have faith that I will eventually walk

Hello I just recently looked on RU-vid about TM and found only a few stories, but very encouraging to hear them. Michelle August my TM came on little by little as well. Started having pains in my back in December 2017 and by the middle of may 2018 I was in a wheelchair. Didn't know what was going on. Doctor pretty much had to admit me into hospital to figure it out. After doing the plasma foresis(not spelling it right😊) went to rehab and was doing good until I hit a bad spell and caused more trouble. Needless to say I am able to semi walk, but can't feel legs from knee down(such a strange feeling) but I am still truckin. Positive vibes to all that are dealing with this trial. Keep smiling through the pain!

I’m so relieved to know that you are my sister in Christ! My husband & I are Canadians living in Sarnia Ontario.....on the border of Michigan. We belong to an evangelical Baptist fellowship. I’m 73 & was diagnosed with TM 8 1/2 months ago.....mid-January of 2019. There’s never been a point where I couldn’t walk. It initially destroyed my sense of balance. But I could walk hanging onto the handles of my walker.....which I bought a few years ago (second-hand & in new condition).....just in case I might need it in the future!! I am inclined to believe now that God was inspiring me to buy it......because He knew I would. ❤️ When I collapsed early one morning, when I got up to use the bathroom, my husband called 911. Less than half a minute later I experienced permanent amnesia. My memory tells me that the next second after he called for an ambulance,...I became aware that two paramedics were carrying me out of our apartment to place me on their stretcher waiting at the door. Then I experienced aphasia (not able to speak) when, after one paramedic told me I was talking nonsense when they entered our apartment, he asked me a question. I opened my mouth to answer him....& discovered I couldn’t talk. Days later, after being transferred to another hospital an hour away, a neurologist asked me my date of birth. I discovered with shock & confusion that I couldn’t remember it. Then he asked me our address. I couldn’t remember that either. I’ve been watching a number of videos of people telling their story of being diagnosed with TM. No one else has experienced amnesia & aphasia. I was eventually transferred to rehab in the hospital in our city. I eventually learned there, from a nurse, that I had fainted in the bathroom in the other hospital. I still don’t remember doing that. But I did eventually remember my date of birth & our address. I will soon be visiting a neurologist & am eager to talk with him about my brain dysfunctions. None of the doctors whose care I was under months ago had time to explain those episodes with me. Experiencing them frightened & upset me. I couldn’t continue the exercises the physical therapists taught me.....because the exercises exhaust me. Now I’m rather short of breath all the time.....& far worse with just a few minutes of activity on my feet. But my balance improved somewhat. I only need to use my walker whenever I leave our apartment. Our nearby grocery store has one of those battery-charged grocery carts that can be sat on & driven around in the store....with a large wire basket on the front....which is how I’m able to do my own shopping. My condition is worsening every day. My skin is numb from just below my breasts & on down to, & including, my toes. It feels like my skin turned to rubber. Every day my “rubber” skin becomes a little tighter.....& a little thicker! Now, 8 1/2 months after my diagnosis, it feels like partial paralysis will happen in the very near future. If God allows that to happen I will immediately have to be placed into our local hospital.....where I will remain until there’s space enough for both my husband & myself in one of our nursing homes here. I am not afraid. I’m not nervous....or anxious. I’m trusting God......because I believe God is glorified through our suffering. God is in complete control....as always. He doesn’t cause disease.....but He CAN use this disease in me to bring glory to Himself. He wants only His best for me. He wastes NOTHING! I am actually thanking God for allowing this rare neurological disorder to happen to me.....because it put me in the right place at the right time to lead a fellow patient in the hospital to Christ. I trust God because I can’t think of one logical reason NOT to trust Him! ❤️

I am awed at how different your TM story is from those I’ve heard, and awed in a joyous way at your beautiful perspective, so much of which I share. 💗 I was blessed to witness to another patient in my rehab facility, as well (I don’t know whether she eventually decided to trust Christ), and I got to live out and speak out a testimony for the Lord to so many people who may never have heard before. Realizing God has such a bigger purpose is truly amazing, and yes - how could we not trust Him? Thank you again for sharing your story! 🤗 Praying for you!

May He continue to help you focus on His constant blessings still raining down on the heads of you & your family.
