@@jan-margaret6970 Oh thank you so much. I picked it myself. English is my second language and when we started to learn English, the teacher wanted each of us to have an English name. I picked it out of a name book.

I LOVE both versions of this iconic drama! NEITHER can compare to the other because they are both executed magnificently. There's absolutely no way either version can be disliked - each creates its own magic!
Angie Dickinson wasn't a very good actress. She was better in Police Woman series. She's always trying that whispery voice to sound like sex phone worker.
I agree with you about both versions being "executed magnificently." I had not seen this version until a couple of years ago and thoroughly enjoy watching it. I love the original version with Grace Kelly and Ray Milland. Right now I don't have a DVD player and am not able to watch that one unless I were to buy it online or rent it and I won't do that so getting to watch this version is a lot of fun. Anthony Quayle who plays the detective in this one played a detective in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much starring Jimmy Stewart and Doris Day and I love his performance in both. Christopher Plummer, the Captain in The Sound of Music, was the perfect choice for the husband in this remake given his dramatic performance from The Sound of Music. When I initially found this I was surprised to see Angie Dickinson playing the role but think she does a good job and honestly feel like she enhances Christopher Plummer's performance and makes him the star whereas in the original version Grace Kelly is the focus. Nothing against Ms Dickinson, but perhaps she was cast for that reason. Nonetheless, she is outstanding in her own right and contributes to the high quality of the movie. And everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Sorry, but the original, wherein Grace Kelly, Ray Mulland and Robert Cummings, is excellent and unsurpassed, whereas, this remake is good, but the music score completely ruins the picture.
I met Canadian actor Christopher Plummer about 10 years ago while he was having dinner at the Ritz Carlton Hotel (Montreal). What a fantastic guy !!! I was with a group of friends and he invited us to join him at his table. We all began to sing "Edelweiss" when suddenly a waiter shows up and asks if we wanted to see a Menu? Mr. Plummer told him "No, let these fine people GUESS what your Hotel is serving tonight" :>)
What a great story!! I would love to have been there. I wonder how often people sing Edelweiss to him? Such a cool way for people to express their love of him. He was one of the first people I ever had a crush on after seeing the Sound of Music when I was about 8. I remember telling my mom that I was going to marry him someday. She said, “Then what will happen to Maria and all those children?” I think I cried.
Wow what a great memory! Like alot of young girls i watched The Sound of Music and had an immediate crush on Christopher.I still think he sang Edelweiss beautifully ,despite critics saying otherwise.I also knew i wanted to work with children (which i did before having my own:).So many great films back when i was a child. They don`t make them like these anymore.
Very well done! I love the Brits music they use in these mysteries. I believe Grace Kelly enhanced the wife’s character more than Angie did here, but it could just be that Grace Kelly, in all her elegance, enhanced every character she played. Christopher Plummer was his excellent self!
Wonderful version of this film. Excellent acting. I always loved Michael Parks. He was an actor who brought himself to every role. He did an amazing job in this film. Such a handsome man.
The original movie was so hauntingly well made. Everyone played their roles to perfection. So I hesitated watching this version due to many remakes are no comparison. Kept to the script well except in a few places. But altogether was still very haunting with excellent actors playing their roles well. Awesome! One of my favorite classics films!
I was pleasantly surprised when I saw this remake two or three years ago as I too thought the original version was outstanding! I completely agree with you about this one being outstanding as well! I love the actors' performances and was pleased with the adherence to the original script. It is one of my favorite classic movies as well.
Enjoyable remake, faithful to the original and well acted. However, the original is a classic (one of my favourite ever films) that can never be surpassed in my view.
Why because is is the best story ever told. I beg to say I did not find it cheesy at all, just another version. People can enjoy both if they open their minds.
Ray Milland's performance makes him a born villian in a gentleman's suit! But Christopher's Tony is also a smiley but creepy one! Love it! And more you watched this version, the more you found this one is beyond our expectations!
This isn't bad remake, but it takes out some dialogue between Tony and Swan in the apartment that is important and explains more about Swan. I don't like the missing aspects, but I did enjoy this nevertheless.
“Police Woman” and “Dressed To Kill” thriller actress Angie Dickensen will ALWAYS be awesome 😎! Thanks Angie for your years of great talent! And also to Princess Grace Kelly and Gwyneth Paltrow for expertly reprising this great role! Act like 👍 a girl!!!
Yo, dumbass, Grace Kelly Originated The Role, she didn't "reprise" it. Angie Dickinson played the remake, and Paltrow played in the knock-off "A Perfect Murder". Dickinson or Paltrow could never equal Grace Kelly in anything.
I rarely watch remakes but thought i would watch this one because it's late and not much on. I love this movie but nothing will top grace kelly she was perfect for this movie.
It is fairly good, but the original is a fantastic classic and an Alfred Hitchcock film. This does have some very good actors/actress though. I’ve always liked Angie Dickinson and Christopher Plummer is very talented. Michael Parks I’ve liked for many years, he was good in the ‘Kill Bill’ movies. In the first ‘Kill Bill’, he played a sheriff and in the second one.... a pimp.
Alfred Hitchcock directed the original Dial M for Murder in 1954 and he was a master. But this was a good remake and I enjoyed it. The inspector reminded me of Colombo.
It seems ungrateful and irrelevant to say "The original was my favourite". The actors are fine, it's free (the other version isn't), so what's not to like! Thank you for uploading.
To me, those comments are actually more respectful than those like mine - saying what we are really thinking - that this version is far inferior, across the board. Acting, sets, photography, etc.
I like both versions. Hitchcock is a master of suspense and surprise. The God of psychological terror. But this version has its unique touch. I love Plummer and Angie Dickinson. So... what's not to like?😀
Well for the record we are all here being given the opportunity to express our opinions. We have the right to do so and if anyone is that easily offended then perhaps they should not read the comments. This is our forum. Some will like the movie, others not. Develop a thicker skin. Get over it.
Oh yea, Angie Dickinson is truly star power. . Wow what a great movie. I never had the chance to see Christopher Plummer in anything other than the Sound of Music. In this movie Christopher Plummer truly shines. His character is appropriately portrayed. Thank you for sharing this with all of us.
He played the piano beautifully and said what he thought but kindly, a wonderful man who had a sterling career and “The sound of Music” was his biggest box office success despite him hating it and calling it “The Sound of Mucous”
@@Soffity yea that movie is a classic and one of my all time favorite. I will never forget in primary school ( middle school) we performed it as a school play, such memories. About him calling it that, I had no idea....kinda disappointed to hear that but hey that was his experience I guess. But he will forever be loved.
I remember seeing this many many moons ago. Couldn't remember the story though. Very enjoyable thank you. Angie Dickinson is so beautiful and Christopher Plummer is sooooo soft on the old eyes.
It is such a delight to watch this wonderful tense version of one of my favorite movies. I don’t think I have ever viewed this. Thank you for your share .
If I were forced to name my favorite Hitchcock, I believe it would be 'Dial M'. Not to knock this TV movie, but it sorely misses the delightful talents of Ray Milland, Grace Kelly, and John Williams, and of course, Alfred Hitchcock.
@@Marie-pr1ss Yes, he unfortunately fell and hit his head; he was in his 90s. Falls are the main cause (or one of the main causes) of death in the elderly. Had that not happened he might still be with us😞❗
@@ddivincenzo1194 How sad! Yes I understand falls are a huge cause of death in the elderly. My great-grandmother was 82 when she fell and hit her head on the corner of her nightstand. A few hours after that, her gross motor skills went haywire, shortly after that, she slipped into a coma and passed away 2 months later.
@@Marie-pr1ss Sorry to hear that. Both of my late grandmothers were in their 90s when they experienced bad falls. I am in my 50s and have had a few myself, causing me to break both wrists and many toes. Neuropathy will do that. My dad jokes that I have the worst balance of anyone he knows, including himself and he's 83 (he's right, too).
@@JckSwan Please look on here for " On Golden Pond", with the great Dame Julie Andrews : "solid gold " from both ...very good performances, totally convincing , a very good piece of work, IMHO. Hope you enjoy it. 😊💕🇨🇦😉🇬🇧💕😊
Agreed. These actors here are amazing (especially Plummer, he was perfectly cast), but this version completely removed the reason the planning scene by Hitchcock was one of the most effective scenes ever. That scene could have been boring on film, but you can't take your eyes off it. How the actors delivered it and even how it was shot makes it my favorite scene in the 1954 version.
Great movie the look on the husband face at the end was priceless.. I love the oldies it's way better than the crap they have out now. Thanks for uploading
I saw the original with Grace Kelly after watching this one and I'm not seeing how the original is better at all. They are both good in their own way and different. It all depends on what you like. The Version with Michael Douglass and Gwyneth Paltrow was good. "A Perfect Murder". All 3 are Good versions made to capture the Era when they were filmed. Maybe the people who like the original better like that it was very bright & colorful. The way a lot of Movies were back in those days and are Grace Kelly fans.
Hitchcock's original version starring Grace Kelly, Ray Milland, and Bob Cummings is absolutely magical. This version loses the suspense and pleasing stylishness in many ways. It would be good to screen both of these films to a film class for an enlightening discussion.
Thank you. As a stand alone film they all did a good job. Unfortunately for them the original just cannot be bettered in terms of the cast, the atmosphere and even the scenery in the apartment.
No one’s performance in this remake rivals the Hitchcock version. They are not bad, but Milland and Williams were just superb. Hitchcock’s way of navigating the viewer around the apartment is far more intriguing. This version is still entertaining. They did not tamper with an excellent play/screenplay.
I love Bentley😄wowowowow, what a film! Not only is he a great actor but he's gorgeous too. I love christopher plummer They don't make films like this anymore
People often say... Why bother even trying to remake a classic movie? But I think there is a point. It makes you realise just how fantastic the original was in comparison.
Thank you. I like the American TV mystery movies of this period. They have A list stars and good production values. There was a recent theatrical movie of the same story with Gwynneth Paltrow and Michael Douglas, but this one was just as good I would say.
Just watching this for the first time. I've seen Gwyneth Paltrow in "A Perfect Murder," and Ray Milland in the original "Dial M for Murder." The atmosphere of this one reminds me of "Dressed to Kill," another movie I saw for the first time this year and stars Angie Dickinson.
Am unsure whether or not to watch - a Perfect murder was nothing like the orginal - though enjoyable - a very different story line - original superb - may give it a go
Also DECEIT or DECEIVED with Goldie Hawn we’re excellent to watch. In reply to another’s comment….the only crap about these stories is that there really are husbands who scheme of ways to get rid of the wife for their money, another woman or just to be free of the commitment .
I haven't seen the Hitchcock version in about 30 years. I enjoyed this TV re-make, even if it does make clear that the story was originally a stage play. In any case, it's always a pleasure to see Plummer, Quayle, Dickinson and Ron Moody.
I'm a child of the 80's but I love old school aka real movies! Angie Dickinson reminds me of Tina Turner! I know different race and color obviously but I love them both, same age range and time frame of "back in the day". Both are ageless empowering women, that I wish were more in time but as much as love my grandmother, I wish more men and women of these days had that charm and grace that you see in old movies and in old music.
Plummer did an excellent portrayal of the husband, overall very good. I do prefer the original primarily for the color, cinematography & the suspense seemed tighter, as well as, the tension.
