I picked up this Dialight 430-6479-001F Countdown Pedestrian Signal at a surplus store in Florida last year and thought it would be cool to get it working and mount it in my house.
I used a BASIC Stamp II with EFK-TEK RC-4 SSR board to switch on and off the four control lines (AC hot) from the independent icon and timer modules on the signal. All circuitry is affixed to the back with velcro for easy rework (except the terminal block, which has double-sided foam tape that is more rigid).
More information, including BS2 source code, is available at www.grandideast...

Could you elaborate more on how how actually programmed the countdown?

Had a question, is there a sequence to wire these up to work? I picked one up at a surplus place in Chicagoans area.. I can get the guy and hand to light up, but is there some setting to make it count down for the signal ? neat project!

Yes, there is a special sequence you need to follow on power-up in order to set the countdown timer. It probably varies by product. You can find the code I created to control the lines, so you'll have to look through that and perform it manually if you don't have any microcontroller to do it for you: www.grandideastudio.com/countdown-pedestrian-signal/

White- shared common, brown or blue- walking man, red- hand & timer. You can buy sequencers on Amazon or eBay with some of them you can even have a timed activation or an external source activate it after a delay if you like, such as a push botton.
