Designing him they knew Sol could be overpowered so they neutered his Dex base/growth/cap and gave him an ability that requires him getting injured to ever hit something, and since the proc rate is so low relying on him actually doing what he's designed to do is a death sentence

The thing is sol doesn’t need to proc every hit for diamant to sustain through enemy phase it’s just once a turn you need it really on average. On the other hand alcryst needs Luna procs to do more then zero to armors with physical weapons. And sometimes he does 6 damage even with a Luna proc in particular the generals on Ike’s paralogue depending on when you do it. It’s much the same reason as to why sol is one of the best occult skills in path of radiance you don’t need to proc it at any particular time just at all on enemy phase and you should be good. I’d bet on average diamant can proc sol once on enemy phase more then alcryst will proc Luna on player phase.

Caladbolg is actually a surprisingly good S rank weapon, it has by far the best availability out of any of the S rank weapons as you get it in chapter 21 by beating zephia, it has really good stats with good might, hit and even a little crit I think if you forge it(I'm also pretty sure S ranks are less expensive to forge then silver weapons), the only downside is the weight wich diamant the best user of it doesn't care about since he should definitly have 12 build by chapter 21, really the S rank weapons do have some gems among them like the obvious nova but also cinquedae wich is just a better silver dagger, the main problem is the availability isn't very good for most and they are limited in wich classes can use them

I think the comparison was fair he was using him whole game best he could without outright absurd favoritism (stat boosters ect) if realistically he cant earn a reason to have a ring over someone else(like maybe leif is maybe the only thing i can justify him having by now) then judging him without one is fair If he cannot compare to a late game joiner people think is eh then thats just how he is truly is eliwood reborn

@@mopfez9852 all of the solm units are better, I’m not saying Diamant compares to them, I’m saying not even giving him an emblem or notable skills and calling him mid is interesting at least! I would not say the Diamant in this vid was used “the best he could,” I think it’s what he was willing to do for a character he isn’t big on, which is ultimately fine but imo doesn’t represent what Diamant is capable of

Actually fogado's personal class has good enough magic and the radiant bow is a stupidly insane weapon so if you give him that he can actually be pretty good against wyverns or even armors

@@pandabanaan9208 with Fogado I’m more referring to Back At You not being a worthwhile skill to build around, but Cupido as a class is really fun for the reasons you mentioned ❤️ super fast, highest bow magic cap class, and with a -1 weight engrave he can eventually use Radiant Bow with no weight penalty, it’s so satisfying Which also ties back into Diamant actually because while Sol isn’t gonna proc very often, Successeur is still a class I like and find fun to use

Keep in mind though that this actually isn't as uncommon. Hinata and Takumi's support in Fates shows that Takumi beat Hinata in a swordsmanship contest, despite Takumi realistically should have no experience being a bow user.

(This isn't meant to be a counter argument. This is a good video. They are not great units without massive favoritism. But that's what I love about FE. Doing suboptimal strategies with your favorite characters)

The guy admitted to giving favoritism to other characters, then its shocked when the characters without favoritism start to fall off behind He purposefully made an effort for Diamant to be worst than intended and tries to play it off as if Diamant was one of the worst things ever Its like if I only used Lachesis with Axes in FE4 and started claiming she was terrible because of it when the character has so many options available that just using her in such a way us active attempt to make her worse

I'd also like to point out that everyone gives Panette credit for having an Ike ring not realizing that if Panette never had Ike she couldn't do half the things she's doing because the stat caps of Berserker are straight up horsecrap. So, Panette gets a slide while Diamant gets the boot.

@@ResurgentRaven or reclassing her which costs a seal, that’s investment… killer weapon warrior Panette is a build with investment but it’s a good one, Successeur is mid but it’s really not too hard to get Diamant up and running

That's mostly Ike's doing, not Diamant's

Diamant as a unit has pretty bad growths in things like strength. In maddening he is almost useless in midgame.

@@seasaltsky this is little investment. Little sp cost only 1000 for speed and skill. On ike especially at a time when other units actually want more than that.

@@seasaltskyis it though? You get 12 rings and 12 engraves for 14 character slots. Considering you also have forges and stat boosters to go around, can move rings between units in between chapters, and can move engraved weapons between users of the same weapon type, it’s not really that much to ask.

​@@Rabidconsciencea ring and an engraved weapon is a big investment, once you attribute the ring's contributions/strengths to diamant instead Like, Ike makes anyone into a serviceable~good bruiser/tank. And Diamant makes a serviceable Ike user among your cast by the time you get access to the ring But stat wise, there's a lot more characters that can do the whole Ike thing better. Ivy's and Timerra's retainers have way better stats than Diamant, and are way better investment targets than Diamant as a carry in the midgame. Diamant's S swords isnt doing any favors when most axes have better stats than swords of the same rank, and when the only relevant S rank sword comes so late. Sol's also super meh~useless as a skill, when you dont have good 1~2 range combat to abuse it and when you dont have good enough stats to for a good enemy phase. And lets face it, the only good enemy phase in Engage after early game is just Lucina Bond Shield, Ike Engage, and Wrath Warrior-Leif as a distant third Considering how Ring availability and unit availability works out, Diamant always struggles as someone who's always 3rd best at using any particular ring, or 2nd fiddle at best. Still useable, but saying "using swords over axes fixes him" is just cope. The dude struggles with both Str and Spd to one round things, so he needs Spd+X, Rally Spd/Spectrum, something like Marth Ring or Roy Ring, and or an effective weapon to one round something. And even with all that, he still can't fight things at 1~2 range the game likes to spam once youre in mid game cause he's not using either Tomes or Knives. I still took the guy all the way to the end in Maddening with Ike. But like, aint no way a physical bruiser that struggles that much to hit ORKO thresholds can hold up against Physical monsters like Kagetsu/Panette, and the plethora of good magic units that can easily ORKO everything in the game compared to the effort it takes for him to even 2 round something

@@model-ss7386 there are better people to give the ring/engrave to is a different argument than the ring/engrave being a big investment. Every character in the game wants a ring and an engrave. Including kagetsu. And you have a lot more than people seem to think to go around. (And I’m not counting dlc emblems)

Fascinating, care to share the full build? I've done two Maddening runs where he did great with just Successor and Ike ring as a secondary tank when I needed to move in two directions and my Bonded Shield squad went the other way. His speed is salvageable enough that I wouldn't think of throwing him in a speed dump class.

Fugado reclassed is an actual menace. His base class and its stupid counter skill are awful, just go Sniper

@@darted1319 I was talking about the main lords, which are the elder siblings. But yeah some of the younger siblings like Fogado and Hortensia are quite good

Picked Lyn because she can boost his accuracy, evasion, and speed.
