"Gotta give a shout to the Large Professor/ Thought I lost his number but I left it on my dresser!!!" I fucking love that song to this day! I'm actually looking forward to the new album. "Rap Life" is a dope beat. It just has a great feel. Not trying too hard to be "old school" but still has that boom bap and melodic feel we will always love.
diamond d is a legend. good to see him healthy and living. still making dat classic boom bap. love his work...kids before you ever pick up a beat machine, listen to this man's production.
I remember back when artists took ATLEAST a year to put together ONE album. Sometimes 2-3 years. Todays rappers release every song they ever make on mixtapes instead of throwing away the weak shit and keeping the good stuff, and building until they can put together a strong work of art.
Southernplayalistic, Aquemeni, ATLiens, it was written, reasonable doubt, only built for Cuban links, tical, Ridin Dirty (UGK), Space Age pimpin (8ball/MJG), muddy waters, Doc's da name (Red man), its dark and hell is hot DMX, TO NAME A FEW.
Cris LeRoi haha we have the same tastes. I listen to everything from E40 to ATCQ to UGK to Digable Planets to Ice Cube. There are so many classic albums in the 90s its overwhelming! I pride myself on having variety but on the real that Ridin Dirty and 8ball/MJG gets play DAILY!
oh we know what you talking 'bout, but my first experience w/ this cat was on Low End Theory October 1991! Where the chorus of F*ck What Ya Heard! had come from!!
Standing on the shoulders of genius and making a one of a kind sonic collage = sampling. One of the roots of Hip Hop is sampling. Underground Hip Hop...where the roots continue to grow. Real Hip Hop is alive and well.
The Amen drum break is legendary. A whole genre of music drum and bass/jungle is based on it. There's a documentary about the break. The guy who played the drums on that track supposedly was homeless. Whoever owns the publishing probably has gotten paid over the years and the musician literally was out in the cold.
I just realised that the realest heads are the ones who can do a collab track which no emcee would decline taking part in, because they all look up to them.
BEST KEPT SECRET used to make the club go bananas....ON THE WEST COAST!!! Real HIP HOP PREVAIL.. Yo thanks for this interview..got some wheels turnin..#peace
I have Stunts Blunts and Hiphop and Hatred, Passion and Infidelity, gonna cop this.Even tho Ebro is an asshole cause he doesn't let his guests talk, he gets props for having Diamond D
+ARISTADOE The Rebel God - Adding on, "Def" was how kids back in the day that kids would say "Death" to describe how kool(Ill, dope, bad) something was. Like there was a writer in Blade's TC5 writing crew back in the 70s named Death.
***** na pharell said on interview with trevor nelson he only wrote the verse ffor the beat. like they gave him familly credit but was only teddy and ty ffyfe. Kenny Ortiz and Nore did alot for the neptunes
Trent Rama that's not what I heard. teddy riley discovered them and supposedly had the neptunes co-produce tracks on blackstreet's second album another level.
***** yo the neptunes and tammy lucas already left the camp by then if you look at the credits there is no neptunes on another level but you will find a bink credit. The neptunes were working with kenny ortiz who helped them with swv ,mc lyte and other placements they were working on album with virgin never came out. However chad played saxophone on jay-z city is mine produced by teddy riley and co produce album mike-e the original neptune member never came out . Not another level
Surprisingly I found this boring, but Im open-minded enough to realize he's an important part of the genre and culture. I guess I like the old 90s beef storiez.
10 years late Diamond! Where you been? I rock with you but cant see this being nothing now. Music has progress too much from this old sound. It was on back in the day tho
