Had a diamond for 22 yrs, he went blind a year ago. I hand feed him with a bulb syringe of frozen food. He would attack the food at first, then he got used to me feeding him like that. Sadly he finally passed away 2 weeks ago.
Love this fish. Have 2 in my tank and everyone loves watching them. I also have a mated pair of cleaner wrasses and the goby’s open their mouths & gills for the wrasses to clean them. Fun to watch and no litter box sand bed.
I’ve had mine for 3 days and he’s already cleaned up half the sand bed and made a dwelling under a rock with a nice berm around the perimeter. Fun fish to watch. Only complaint is the cloudy water he’s created hoping that clears up after a bit. If you are thinking of getting one of these guys you won’t be sorry.
We sell them in pairs, and keep an upturned clam shell in their tanks. Extremely popular for their fascinating behaviour whereby one of them creates and tends to the outside of clam “house”, the other stays inside and keeps watch, even creating a cute little window, and back door. I particularly enjoy how they don’t dump sand from as high up as some of the other species of Valencienna gobies. 👏
I love my diamond goby. My next tank I definately need to go a more coarse sand than the Fiji Pink though. Special grade is an option but maybe even slighty chunkier than that.
I like the watchman goby except that fact that the last one I had used to pick up loads of sand then immediately swim up and then spit out the sand everywhere on the coral and rock work. Lol.. I was thinking of trying another one out because like you said they do a great job of sifting the sand bed and cleaning it up.
I just got a DW Goby 2 days ago, I'm liking him so far. I have a 75 gallon tank. I was thinking of grabbing the other one we have at PetCo, but now I'm hesitant. I like bottom feeders to help clean up uneaten food. My tank is almost 2 months old.
Used to have a mating pair in my 180 loved when they would hang out together and clean, was sadden when after having them for 8 years one died and the other 6 months later died .
This is an awesome video. I’m going to pick one up tomorrow. Just wondering if you have to bury the pellets in the sand for him to eat it or hand it to him
Love these guys! Sadly, just lost mine after having him for about 2 years. He was unfortunately always rather nervous when eating because my yellow coris wrasse would always hover over his shoulder and pick at the sand after. Nothing ever aggressive, no attacks, nothing like that, but my guy just couldn't stand someone watching over his shoulder as he worked. Eventually started coming out less and less. I tried removing the coris wrasse (that was a nightmare) but alas, my goby didn't manage to recover. Here's to hoping I have better luck with his successor.
That’s interesting. I have the same sand and mine makes a mess too. Not sure if its worth it. Sand bed looks like a battle ground. Little guys just digging for gold and striking out each time😂
Hi Deven. Great vid, as always! Love your substrate. The particle size is just what I've been looking for. Would you mind saying what it's called and, if possible, where it can be purchased?
Worried about transferring my watchman goby to my larger tank. I've a fuzzy dwarf a few wrasse and a zebra dart. He's not too small for the dwarf to get him but idk about the wrasse. 1 is kinda dominant and not sure if the darts too similar to the diamond
I love and hate my diamond goby at the same time! he does a great job keeping the sand clean but he is constantly covering the corals that are on the sand bed and I always have to blow them off with a turkey baster!
I'm currently cycling my first tank (around 100 gallons) and thinking about getting two diamond gobys once my tank had some fish in it for some weeks. Is it possible that these gobys actually replace other CuC members so you could actually make a full fish CuC without snails and crabs? Like gobys for the sand, tangs for alge and others?
I have one with automatic daily water changes to complete full tank change monthly oversized uv apex galore chiller the whole 9 he was the last addition to make my tank virtually hassle free for pure enjoyment.
I love these fish and I have one in each of my tanks but sadly the goby in my biggest tank was bullied to death by a six line wrass and although I tried to remove the fish I found it impossible to catch it until it was too late
I’ve one in my tank for 3 weeks . I barely see him sifting sand . He doesn’t come out when I’m feeding my other fish 🐠 so I wonder how he’s still alive
I had one and it lasted about 3 weeks and never saw it again. I think it didn’t ship well and got sick or my sand was too clean. It was less than a year old at the time. I’ve thought about getting another one but I also heard from other people similar stories to mine so I’m iffy about it. I hope your does well
I had one over 20+ years ago and swore I'd never get another. Mine constantly buried the sandbed corals. I'm wondering if you just got lucky or if I was unlucky. Watching the comments to see others experience.
Tagging along. I had a gold head sleeper goby that was great, but also covered anything on the sandbed. I thought these sand sifting gobies were all the same. Maybe the one in the video just has a slightly different personality? I also don't want to get one if they're not consistent like this one.
@@ReefDudes typically they are even less likely to dump sand up high and stay close to the sand bed based on experience. You lucked out with your Diamond goby I think.
If you r sand bed is full for corals its a risk. Mine stays on the sand bed and doesnt go up and dump it over the rock s and other corals like previous gobys i have had,
