There are so many "luau" style celebrations to choose from on Oahu and on the Hawaiian islands altogether. Although the show itself at the Polynesian Cultural Center interested us a little more, we opted for the Diamond Head Luau at the Waikiki Aquarium because it was within walking distance of our hotel., and they had a great menu. We visited the Polynesian Cultural Center several years ago. The package we purchased covered events throughout the day. The luau was held in the evening, and then we went to see Ha. I think Ha means the breath of life or something like that. That show was AWESOME! The entire visit there was really cool. It's a bit pricey, but way cool. Thank you for sharing your adventure.

We did the Smith Family Luau almost a year ago and absolutely had a great experience. Definitely their stage and effects were more exciting than what you showed at this luau. The Polynesian Culture Center is somewhere I'd love to go again.

You tell those kids lol. I agree with everything you said. It's a hotel and people are on vacation and partying. No one wants to hear that shit at 8am. Actually, I think 9am is a little early for swimming. Love your channel. Watching you made me want to go on a cruise. I took my son on Wonder of the Seas last year. You were a big help. Thank you.

Living in Southern California Hawaii is our go to every year for a couple of weeks. All of the islands are different and well worth exploring. I actually prefer The Big Island and Maui so that is where we head. In some 40 years I have been to one luau. We took my son when he was about 7 and his youngest is now 7 😉. It’s something everyone should do ONCE. Hawaii is gorgeous but as I’m certain you found….it is pretty expensive. We haven’t stayed in hotels for years preferring a condo on the beach where we are free to hit Costco on our way in from the airport and have access to food and drinks at our own place. During our two weeks we might eat dinner out about 5 times. Hopefully if you get back to the islands you will explore one of the other ones. Waikiki is so much more commercialized than any of the others. Great video as usual!

It is really nice with your always real but staying positive and truthful ways, to hear what you really appreciated. It is so nice to me that they work so hard to have thses kinds od situations not always on a resort hotel's land or in a combo form or Loyal to history and place people and humor and poetic additions in food and jokes either on hotel or public park areas..I apprecialte the varierty of these luaus and going to one over twenty years after my first at parents 50th was really really nice.

We did the Paradise cove luau back in 1994 and the Polynesian cultural centre in 1993. Both were quite good. Paradise cove was similar to one at diamond head. The PCC one was huge, with so much variety. There are many shows at different stations, including a river boat one. The main one had so many different performers. It was a long day and a little overwhelming.

The food options on the menu looked so good. The vegetarian plate looked loaded with good options, too. Glad that was available for you!

Hi! We did this exact luau two days after you. I completely agree with everything you said. At first I thought - hmmm couldn't they make the waiting area nicer, & have some seating for those that can't stand that long? Then with the main stage I didn't like the stage in front of the stage setup - very annoying. Now I know it's for the fire dancers, but it really took away (& blocked a little) the main stage. The overall stage really needs to made visually nicer/fancier for sure. The performers were excellent and really danced their booties off. By the end of the night I totally agree that I really enjoyed it, but they do need to improve on the things you and I both mentioned. :) ... BTW, we did Polynesian Culture Center while there also - definitely OMG do it! It's gorgeous, and the main show "Ha Breath of Life" is a 1.5 hour absolutely phenomenol don't-miss-it show!! The absolute best luau/hula show I've ever seen with a great story line. We learned that "Ha" means "breathe of life" in Hawaiian, and "Ha" is the last part of "Aloha".

Hilton Hawaiian Villages put on the weekly Friday fireworks. It's the resort with the Lagoon, and 4 swimming pools on 22 acres.

We're visiting in November and have been trying to decide on a luau experience. We're already booked for a PCC day tour our first full day on Oahu, so I'm confident we'll see several authentic exhibits and demonstrations during the day, but staying out late for their dinner show and an hour-long shuttle back to Waikiki just seemed a bit of a long day, especially with what I expect to be a raging case of jet lag! I had been considering Diamond Head Foodie Friday, as that would give us a couple more days to get acclimated to the time difference and, as mentioned, it would be an easy stroll to and from our hotel. I love that the foodie format supports multiple local dining venues... not to mention an ocean-front fireworks display with dessert. DECISION MADE!! Thank you so much for this timely "Honest Review"!

Flower leis are hot...especially if you get more than 1...where I lived in Oahu we had several plumeria trees on our property and I was able to make leis.

Aloha, Morgan. You're speaking my language: Hawai'i. I've done at least 3 different luaus on Oahu. My first and favorite was at the Polynesian Cultural Center in the mid 1980s. Both my brother and I were pulled up to dance, probably because my brother had a Maori face paint, and I had on Hawaiian top and skirt from Hilo Hattie with a flower Lei crown. I did NY best Tahitian dance (learned when I was a child) and my brother grunted his way through the number. Of course there were other guests on stage. Out mom was seated in front, 2 empty chairs and plates of food on either side of her. She was so shocked to see us that she didn't take any photos. We later took photos with the dancers. Paradise Cove was also nice and I can't remember the 3rd. I've been on 3 other luaus on 2 other islands. Before the pandemic, a luau with a $30 discount at Costco was $99 at the Grand Wailea in Maui. That was October 2019. And that resort is one of the premier resorts on Maui. Last year that same luau had no discounts and started at $239/person for basic. The pandemic doubled and tripled prices for entertainment, food and lodging. However, the flights remained low from California.

I went to Germaine's Luau on the North Shore twice. The last time I went was almost 28 years ago on my honeymoon. Hopefully it's still in business. Yes, definitely go to the Polynesian Cultural Center. I went almost 40 years ago! It's run by the Mormon Church and the buffet dinner was excellent and so was the show.

Went to Chief’s Luau which at that time was held at Sea Kife Park. Bus transportation from Waikiki provided. At a different location now. We also had the cheapest seats and that was fine. It was a great luau.

The Luau show appeared similar to the one we went to. The one we attended had uncovered seats that were canceled because of rain. I wonder if all those dancers have other jobs. I can't imagine they make enough to make a living at just dancing at Luaus.

Hey man. We were there on April 26th of this year. There was a problem with the stage right light tower and someone, (maybe it was you?), was climbing up the fence in the middle of the show to try to fix it. Thanks for doing the best job with what is there!

Wow. I'm glad we didn't do this one. We did the Smiths family Luau on another island and it was much nicer. We were all a part of the pig being cooked in the pit and the food was fabulous. Food and drinks were unlimited. It wasn't close to costing what you paid. You chose where you wanted to sir. There wasn't any assigned seats.

The price was high. But look at all the dancers. They have to get paid. Food is expensive so is booze. Don’t think it was that bad. What would it have cost to go out to eat and to a show?

This has been the same for years. Why would they invest more money in improving when they are sold out every night with tourists? Not going to happen . All the venues are the same. First time I visited was in 1990s and nothings has changed but the price.
