Diana is the best female vocalist on the planet, for the last couple of thousand years. A phenomenon, like Dimash, too, but still with polyphonic overtones. Concentrated "Russian Soul". And yes, the backing vocals are hers too
I love this smooth like “butter” sound of Diana’s vocals. Whenever, she and Brandon collaborate…it’s a sure WINNER 🏆. Thank you Xsezz, Nice Reaction. 🙋🏻♀️🎧🎼❤️🔥🎶👏🏽

July 17, 1916. Moscow This song by Diana Ankudinova based on poetry by poetess Marina Tsvetaeva. In my enormous city it is - night... In my enormous city it is - night, as from my sleeping house I go - out, and people think perhaps Tm a daughter or wife but in my mind is one thought only: night. The July wind now sweeps a way for - me. From somewhere, some window, music though - faint. The wind can blow until the dawn - today, in through the fine walls of the breast rib-cage. Black poplars, windows, filled with - light. Music from high buildings, in my hand a flower. Look at my steps - following - nobody. Look at my shadow, nothing’s here of me. The lights - are like threads of golden beads in my mouth is the taste of the night - leaf. Liberate me from the bonds of-day, my friends, understand: I’m nothing but your dream. Translated by Elaine Feinstein
Interpretation of Diana and Brandon’s song “In a Huge City”: The great Russian poetess Marina Tsvetaeva gave birth (not “wrote”!) poems with a quality of meaning inseparable from the sound of her words in Russian. It is IMPOSSIBLE to understand the meaning of these poems, or rather, these sounds without perceiving their Russian sound (try translating Kipling, or Byron, or Shakespeare into Russian, and then back into English! Try it!). This is exactly what Diana and Brandon are doing in this song - the correspondence of meaning and sounds. This cannot be explained in words: how to add up the sum of meanings and the sound of speech??!! This can only be heard by the soul. To hear, repeated many times, a combination of melody, words and sounds of instruments, the main one of which is Diana’s voice - the most complex of them all. Hence the advice - reproduce in yourself the images given by Marina (night, wind, black poplar, light from the window, ringing from the tower, “And this is the shadow, but not me”, “Friends, understand that you are dreaming of me”) ...and listen, listen, listen to the voice(s) of Diana singing this... And you will enter the door of This universe - through the beauty paved by Diana and Brandon.
Hello. Thank you for this good reaction. Yes, the music is somehow relaxed and chill in large parts, a bit of Latin vibes included, a very interesting restrained arrangement that leaves a lot of space for Diana's voice. When it comes to the lyrics, I'm still having a bit of a hard time with it, but it seems to me to be more about a feeling, an emotion and less about a story. Since it is a poem, the translation is certainly very difficult. In my opinion it is less successful in German. In English it seems a little closer to the original. Overall a really great song and production. All the best and greetings from Germany. 🌻 🌻 🌻 🌻 🌻
In order to get closer to the meaning of the poem you have to know a few things about it and then read a proper translation of it adapted to the translated language correctly, i will try to provide some of enlightenment in a separate post here for English speakers, if you are interested then search for it. Edit: Never mind i just saw Franks post and he summarizes the general feeling very well i will just provide the correct English adaptation on his post.
@@Kwstas_Vagias Hello Constantin, thanks for the answer. Yes, I have now (since yesterday) read numerous comments and lyric versions of the song/poem, including about the poet's situation. That makes things much clearer. For me it's still mainly about the feeling that the lines or the metaphors mentioned are intended to create and evoke. At least for me here in and for the song. Of course I can't figure out the original Russian words, their meaning, etc. directly. But the word melody and the sound, the line structures, etc.... Even for me, who doesn't normally bother with poetry: Just great art. Beautiful. All the best and warm greetings to Greece. 🌻 🌻 🌻 🌻 🌻
Vitaly Alekseev posted this elsewhere. I can't guarantee its accuracy, but it makes a great deal of sense to me. "In the plot of the poem, the lyrical heroine suffers from insomnia, she cannot sleep and runs from her sleepy house to the streets of the city. Someone thinks it is someone's wife, another sees in the heroine someone's daughter, she herself feels only night, sees only darkness around her. The second stanza describes the state of the lyrical heroine during a night walk through the city, a walk in spite of sleep. The wind of July sweeps the heroine's way, quiet music plays somewhere in the windows, and the wind keeps blowing and blowing, as if trying to fill her chest with fresh oxygen to replace the spent carbon dioxide. [Stanza] #3 continues the description of the heroine in the night stone jungle, where the world is full of opposites, like a black poplar tree in front of a lighted window. The heroine walks through the streets as if she is hurrying after someone, but she cannot catch up. It seems to her that she has dissolved into the night and only a shadow tells that someone's feet are walking on the paving stones.... The verse ends with the lights of the night city like gold beads and the taste of the leaf in her mouth, which remains the only thread linking the heroine's soul and body. She asks to be released from the bonds of the day and addresses the reader with the conviction that she is only dreaming." - Vitaly Alekseev
@@530MAIDU Sadly, this is the fate of too many great artists. We can be grateful that Diana is surrounded by such a wonderful and supportive family. And, by extension, those of us who also love and support her.
Yes this interpretation is the correct one, this poem is part of an anthology of about 4-5 poems Called "Insomnia", this one is the second poem and the translation is not properly adapted on Diana's video, i will provide an accurate English adaptation without the poem losing it's meter (Tempo/rhythm) or it's rhymes. My busy town fell asleep - night. I left the house where there's no light. Some folks are thinking: daughter, wife, bride But I recall the only thing: night. A summer wind is sweeping my street. A quiet music sounds - nice beat. The wind will push the clouds to fleet. In to my chest through it's thin wall - sheet. There is a poplar on a dark lot. A tower clock hits the midnight spot. A lonely walk and then a strange thought: Everything exists and only I'm - not. Street lights are like a golden beads string. The night's leaf tastes like mint. Detach yourself from the daily thoughts stream. It isn't me you see at night it is a - dream. I hope that makes more sense in context of the analysis provided on the opening post.
