I recorded another video for you this week, however much to my frustration it was blocked worldwide. I was so excited to bring you a second video & unfortunately now you won't be able to watch it. Copyright is a huge issue for digital creators - I could have cut bits from the video but in doing so most of Diana's performance would be cut & that would be an awful experience for you all. She indeed stands alone. I found her last year through an analasys of this performance on the channel the charismatic voice. Since then I listen to her endlessly and the more I listen, the more I want to listen. For me her voice is beyond any voice I have ever heard. She is incredible and on top of that she is incredibly charming and likeable. She won that show too by the way, you should go back when she was 15 years old and listen to her cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" that she performed on the vocal competition "You are super" for orphan children your jaw will hit the floor again. There are no performances from her that will not give you chills as she is called "The queen of goosebumps", Diana has produced more masterpieces in year than others do in a lifetime so you have a ton to watch.

Greetings from Scotland! Diana was still only 18yo here! It is impossible to compare Diana's vocal abilities with another singer, male or female. She was born with some special abilities so she is totally, completely unique in music! Diana is 20yo currently but I've been following her career since she was around 13yo. Diana is a natural Dramatic Contralto so the lower registers are her comfort zone but she has increased her range even more since this. She also naturally sings with polyphonic overtones so it sounds like many voices at the same time! Any song, any genre, in any language, Diana can sing it and improve it! You need a little back story to understand what helped "create" this unique phenomenon:- Diana's birthmother had multiple miscarriages but when Diana came along, she seemed to hate her. She verbally and physically abused her, trying to drown her and belittle her. It all culminated when (at 3yo) a passing relative found her in her home with a broken collarbone and several other injuries. She went for the authorities who removed Diana from her birthmothers care and placed her in an orphanage. For almost 2 years Diana never gave up hope and she knew that she was meant for something better. (This story is in her Wikipedia entry) Finally her new mother (Irina Ponik, who worked as a masseuse there occasionally) Signed her adoption papers and took her home. She vowed to pay Irina back for her kindness. Irina had a real struggle because Diana had obviously been badly affected by the experiences and at 5yo, she had a very bad stammer. It was recommended that she be taken for singing lessons to help this and immediately it was recognised that Diana had perfect pitch and an excellent ear for music and songs. 1 year later, at 6yo, Diana was performing solo on stage! This young unique phenomenon sang everywhere and anywhere she could, working constantly to earn money for the family who rescued her. Leo, sorry for the long post, but there is a lot of information to give. This performance took place on September 25, 2021, during the inaugural season of a new Russian vocal competition called the “ShowMaskGoOn!”, and Diana Ankudinova was only 18, in 2021 when this performance took place. For the new “ShowMaskGoOn” competition Diana’s performed Elvis Presley’s classic, “Can't Help Falling In Love”. In past interviews Diana has said she was not happy with her lack of a higher vocal range, and that lack kept her out of the more prestigious Russian music academies. Along with her voice teacher she decided to concentrate extensively on improving and developing her upper vocal range. In 2017 when she was 13 years old, Diana’s vocal range was measured for the first time and at her vocal range then was measured from a low of D3 (lower alto range) to a high of A5 (mid to upper alto range), which is unusually low for a 13 year old girl. During the “Can’t Help Falling In Love” performance, her vocal range was again measured and her functional vocal range now measures from a low of C3 (male Tenor range) to a high of B♭5, (female Mezzo Soprano range). One of the most common questions regarding Diana’s unique voice is, how does she do it? How does such a young female singer achieve such a low, rich, deep, profound, and resonant sound? Without actually scoping her vocal tract while she is producing those low notes to physically see and analyse what is actually happening within her vocal tract, the general conciseness of many vocal professionals is simply attributing Diana's vocal ability to her winning the genetic lottery, meaning Diana was just born with her unique vocal anatomy. Diana's vocal folds (vocal cords) appear to be longer and thicker than the vast majority of female singers. Her larynx, (voice box), likewise appears to be larger and similarly her pharynx, (throat), also appears to be longer than the vast majority of female singers, plus she has a large oral cavity (mouth). It’s this unique vocal anatomical structure that appears to give Diana Ankudinova the ability to produce the low, deep, rich, and full sounds she is known for, but without actually scoping her vocal track to verify, there is no way to be 100% sure. For this new the “ShowMaskGoOn!” competition, Diana’s first round performances was her cover of Elvis Presley’s classic, “Can't Help Falling In Love”, and it showed what many vocal professionals have been saying since Diana was 14, based on Diana’s previous vocal competitions and concerts, she has developed into what many vocal professionals believed she always was, a true contralto voice type. For those that do not know what a contralto voice type is, a contralto is the lowest, and deepest type of female voice, and a true contralto is very, very rare. Just to be clear, there are 3 recognized Contralto voice types: a) Coloratura Contralto: The coloratura contralto has a light, agile voice ranging very high for the classification and atypically maintains extensive coloratura and high sustaining notes, specializing in florid passages and leaps. b) Lyric Contralto: The lyric contralto voice is lighter than a dramatic contralto but not capable of the ornamentation and leaps of a coloratura contralto. This class of contralto, lighter in timbre than the others. c) Dramatic Contralto: The dramatic contralto is the deepest, darkest, and heaviest contralto voice, usually having a heavier tone and more power than the others. Singers in this classification are the rarest of the rare Contralto voice types. During the opening of “Can’t Help Falling In Love” Diana’s low Lyric Contralto voice is on full display. The Coloratura Contralto improvement to her upper range is also on display during the middle portion of this performance. Finally, the depth and power of Diana’s voice during the final section define her as not just a Contralto, but as a “Dramatic Contralto” voice type, and a Dramatic Contralto has the lowest, deepest, darkest, richest sound and it is the most powerful of the contralto voice types and it is the rarest of the very rare Contralto voice types. At the end of this performance, the full power of her Dramatic Contralto voice is on full display for everyone to hear. But it’s not just how low she can go, it’s in the exceptional quality of her tone in her upper range but especially in her lower range that makes her so very special. It's in the roundness, fullness, and depth of her sound, along with her ability to create, access, and use an enormous amount of resonance. Now, during the “ShowMaskGoOn”, Diana was competing against 8 other professional singers, Diana being the 9th competitor. Diana and the other singer's also doubled as judges for this competition which was televised over nine weeks, one singer per week for the entirety of the 9 weeks. Diana and the other professional singers/judges were competing against each other, and based on their individual performances they awarded judging points to each other. Each week a different singer took center stage and performed a different song over each of the nine weeks using a different genre of music, and a different style for each song performed. The ShowMaskGoOn! concluded on November 20, 2021, and during Diana’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love” performance, the judge on the top row who was the first to stand is a well known Russian opera tenor, Yusif Eyvazov from Azerbaijan. He was invited to participate as a special guest judge for this inaugural competition. At the end of Diana's performance she receives a standing ovation from all her fellow competitors. One of those competitors is a well-known contemporary Russian singer, Julia Parshuta. Julia is in the center row dressed in in red, and looks totally lost at the end of Diana's performance. She puts both hands on top of her head, and looks totally shocked, and bewildered. Finally, The Show Must Go On competition concluded with Diana Ankudinova being awarded the most judging points over the total of 9 weeks, and was declared the competition winner!

Diana started singing at age 5 as a remedy for a bad stammer caused by her traumatic early years. She was abandoned by her mother (or taken away by the authorities) at age 3 ½ after years of neglect and abuse and spent 1 ½ years in an orphanage before being adopted at 5yo by a wonderful woman and her family who took on the task of rehabilitating her. It was quickly discovered she loved singing, was very good at it, had a good voice and a superb musical ear (and perfect pitch according to some). So Diana was sitting with them when others performed. Kia ora from New Zealand. I enjoyed your reaction! I found Diana last year, her singing reached deep into my soul somehow. In this performance it feels like she gathers energy from somewhere… maybe nature, maybe her ancestors, who knows? and then sends it all out to us, the viewers, in a way that is astonishingly powerful and simply epic. I highly recommend ‘Rechenka’, which is based on an ancient folk song. I also recommend ‘The Ornery Horses’ for an emotional tour de force in a simple, stripped back performance (personally I prefer the video, from her channel, where she is wearing a pink blazer, it was her first time singing that song). I also recommend you find out about her personal life story, her story is heartbreaking, but ultimately triumphant. Enjoy your journey into the wonderful world of Diana!

Here are three reasons why Diana (the Queen of Goosebumps) doesn't sound human. First, she is a contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich. Second, she has a spectacular larynx. She's been called the vocal Eighth Wonder of the World. Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. (more below) When you add all that up you basically get a person who creates her own auto-tune. She doesn't need electronic auto-tune. She IS her own auto-tune. And the effect when you hear her is totally mind-blowing. It's like she's singing right through you, like a sword straight into your soul. Literally NOBODY else on the planet has a voice like hers. She's not one in a million, she's one in eight billion. Having watched well over 100 initial reactions to her, only one did NOT say she was "unique".
