Diana actually talks about a lot of racist incidents in various interviews. She was truly a civil rights trailblazer.

I love it. That's the fearlessness one has especially us black people when you are faced with ignorant bigots. I love Diana Ross. She's not only my inspiration but she's a fellow arian.

Whoa,Miss Ross is no clown.Let's see you tour the south in the 60's in the Motortown Revue and survive getting shot at, refused service and still emerge not bitter, cynical or racist.

There is that scene in "Lady Sings the Blues" where Billie encounters a mob of klaners. I've always thought there must have been plenty of incidences in news footage that Ross used to connect with her character's emotions during the scene, but John Tesh's report on makes me speculate that Ross drew upon personal experience to play the scene. Because Diana Ross and The Supremes were exceedingly successful pop music performers it's easy to downplay their impact on race relations in the U.S.

I find it odd that those guys didn't recognze who she was, unless black radio was banned in the South or wherever they were. They had a ton of hit records. To me they are the biggest girl group in terms of how often people wanted to play their records. Do you hear people playing the spice girls records over and over again, eve though they're the biggest selling girl group?

if they didn’t recognize her I guess it’s because she wasn’t standing close to them or smth, I feel like everyone knew The Supremes even in the South, their songs were huge (some still are)

In fact, as Timothy Bellavia states, "we're all just people..... we're all the same inside." Miss Ross is fierce - she will make that dude pay one day. Word!
