Good review as always. Nice little springer, got a HW99S a couple of years ago, ostensibly for my grandson but just use it myself when I want a change from PCP's. There is something satisfying about using a basic spring air rifle with open sights (even if the target is a blur with 66 year old eyes).
@alexeysaphonov232

HW99 and especially S it is a completely different class of springers. From the House of Weihrauch I'd rather compare 240 with hw30 (not even S). HW30/50S are considered to be the best quality for price entry level in Germany Diana 240 is the best in low budget segment.

I like it. The stock reminds me very much of my 1947 BSA Cadet (my own first rifle, still in my possession) and it seems like a lot of fun to plink with. At that price it's a good first rifle for a youngster because you're not losing much if they don't take to shooting.

Nice little back garden plinker, especially for those not blessed with large gardens. Will make a nice low cost junior introduction rifle and I find fibre optic sights a lot easier to use than normal open sights.

I probably fall into the category of the people complaining about the price of some of rifles . But shooting is a second hobby of mine and some of the prices are eye watering . But I also do appreciate the reviews of the rifles that are expensive and as always the comment's are directed towards the price of the gun not the superb quality of your videos because your reviews are always informative and top draw .. and maybe the patient number 240

Looks great to use as a club gun. Since I got my NSRA YPS ticket I've been looking at buying some budget guns to train kids with, and this is defo on the shortlist. I like the automatic safety, wouldn't want one on my gun, but for pupils, that's great. I like that it isn't stippled, as a quick wipe down between sessions will cover all the surfaces, stippling isn't that sanitary if you share. Power level is great, no point hammering your pellet traps, and the lower fps means you can teach holdover at more reasonable ranges. Cheers for this one.

Super review, and a super little gun. Very much reminds me of the BSA Meteor that we had as kids, 3 or 4 of us clubbed together to buy a 2nd hand one, and as none of us were allowed by our parents to have an airgun, we had to keep it hidden in the woods, sadly, we didn't hide it well enough, and someone "relieved" us of it! Anyway, When I started working, I bought a new one and a scope, then a Mercury, which was a lot nicer....Happy days

As others have suggested, I also think this 240 is heir to the Diana 24 - T03, from the 1990's. Originally sold by RWS, I bought mine used in the States. At 41 1/2" its slightly longer than your 240 but with comparable power. Last time over the chrony mine averaged 606 fps with 7.33 JSBs (or 6 ft-lbs). I tried a scope and decided the weight took away from the essential nature of the weapon. Now it has an aperture rear sight matched to the original perlkorn. Thanks for the review.

Andrew asked why two-forty. It is a remake for Diana 24 (even russian springer mp512 through Diana 22 which russian copy is also known as PSR aka ПСР, but it is a difficult lineage) which used to be a very prominent model in the past. Two-forty was previously produced as 240 but as Diana became a part of GSG (aka German Sport Guns) they re-issued it. I know that Diana still produces some models like AirKing in Germany, but the majority are probably manufactured somewhere in Asia.

Can't beat a springer and open sights for keeping you down to earth. Whenever anyone I'm coaching tells me they need a better gun, I show them a card I shot with a 15 year old SMK B2 at 20-odd metres. I was aiming about 4 feet high, but they all went in.

Accuracy would massively improve if you use a non solid rest, springers are lively beasts and need taming by a consistent softer hold, eg the fore end rested on a cushion or your hand.

Very inspiring review indeed. Thank You Andy! I can relate much more to such a springer review because I am not a fan of PCP or Co2. Too much power management for me as the occasional plinkerer/target shooter. I don't want to hold myself up with Co2 cartidges or a compressor for a PCP. With its advertised 7,5 joule output, this baby complies with our german laws for permitted output of non licensed airguns. (nitpicking alert: 5,53 ft.lbs according to my math). I think that with i.e. 7,41 grain pellets it would have the potential of meeting the specs on the chrony. However I believe that 7,87 or 8,18 grain pellets would be optimal for this rifle.

If I might make a suggestion Andy if you get a chance you should review the Springfield Armory M1A Underlever Pellet Rifle at some point. I just got one recently, and have found it quite satisfactory thus far. Unfortunately I haven't found too many reviews for it yet. It's a nice replica of the U.S. Garand M1A, fires at up to 1,000 fps muzzle velocity, and is thus perfectly suited for varmint/pest, and small game hunting. Also being a replica of an iconic U.S. battle rifle is a plus. Though I'll grant it wouldn't be quite as iconic in Europe. It would certainly be a nice review to add with the other spring piston reviews you've done.
