I actually saw this movie on Turner Classic Movies or TCM on the morning of Monday March 15th. It came on around 2 or 2:30 am. I missed the first half hour or so but I was absolutely amazed at how wonderful this movie was. Claude Laydu was incredibly talented and stunningly beautiful. He performed his role as the parish priest outstandingly!. I don't speak French so I had to rely on the English subtitles to get me through the film but I enjoyed this movie so very much. I want to purchase the dvd so I can have my own copy. I will consider this one of my top 10 movies of all time. Absolutely brilliant! RIP Claude he passed away in 2011.
Aww I missed it! 😭 I first watched this movie in 2014 on TCM on my birthday. It’s easily on my top 5 favorite movies ever. I normally skip B/W movies but this one stood out to me by how simple and beautiful it was. It made me tear up. A very beautiful movie indeed ❤️
How the hell can I watch this film? The DVD is out of print, it's not available to stream anywhere and I can't afford a Criterion Collection subscription to stream it... What am I supposed to torrent it? I simply must see Tarkovsky's favorite film!
@@iN31L I put a message in your discussion section on your page. I suppose I can delete the comment later, and it isn't an account i use much anymore anyway. That would be so phenomenally nice of you and I would cherish it greatly.
@@iN31L Just downloaded it and so excited to watch it! Thanks so much. I may take advantage of those films sometime, but in the meanwhile it is quite a gift. Wish I could return the favor somehow, though I have no cool archives. I'll just take it as a kind deed for now. Much appreciated.
@@iN31L I've watched the film a couple of times; it is a work of grace, subtelty, thoughtfulness and beauty. I see why Tarkovsky loved it so. Thank you deeply for the kind gesture! I'm so glad to have seen it!
@@iN31L Hey sorry to reply to a month-old comment, but would you mind sharing the film with me? I, like many others, have tried finding some way to watch the film to no avail, and would greatly appreciate it.
Sublime film, How is it that French Italian Russian Danish Polish and Japanese directors can take religion/spiritualty seriously,,,and English and American ones cant, The utter impoverishment of English speaking cultural life
America was built by literal freemasons and protestant outlaws they have no concept of spiritual life itself so they rely on symbols tropes and stereotypes for most americans a church is only a building the bible its only a book and so forth.
