Diatomaceous earth is a natural and effective way to not only protect our grains from insects but it also keeps moisture away from the grains helping to reduce or eliminate the possibility of mold growth.
*NOTE: I now stir the Diatomaceous Earth into the grains after sprinkeling it on top of the grains. Stirring the DE into the grains helps cover and protect all of the grains.

My grandparents, on the farm, used to put a piece of charcoal in the bag of grains. It was used to absorb excess moisture or in a root cellar to absorb ethylene gas that fruit or vegetable produce to prevent rot. Just an old pioneer trick.

Thanks, I put my grains into quart size canning jars, seal them with a plastic canning jar lid and freeze the containers for 3 days. Then I take them out of the freezer and store at basement temp but never open the jars. This kills every little creature that might be in there and the gains seem to not be affected at all. I've been doing that for a long time and never noticed an off taste or any dampness in the grains.

I only ad one tsp of DE each time and then I stir. I make sourdough bread, with the honey method, with grains that have DE on them and the bread grows, so it does not ruin it. I also use DE around plastic bags with beans, inside boxes, and I got no parasites or flies or what ever those are called that come on produce. I used to have many of those flies, but not on the food that now have DE on it, so the flies are almost gone. I had very few on places with no DE and they are now gone.

Great info, just wondering why you would set you container on the floor. I think you might want to set it inside the bag instead.

Thanks for the video/info, didn't know it could do this! I use it already for cleansing/detox etc . . So you don't need to put some on top or at the bottom right? Crazy how it kills parasites etc . .

you don't need to. DE is very good for you. It's foodgrade. It will actually kill any parasites in your intestinal track!

It's edible and flour like. Also its contains a mineral (silica) I believe. Kills parasites in your intestinal tract and some say their nails get stronger after regular ingestion for health reasons. Do your own research. Don't breath it . I've used it for years around my aviary to keep birds free of mites with no irritation but I was somewhat cautious. Its great stuff. I put it in my grain storage but it dissappears when the grain is rinsed before cooking. A little goes a long ways.

I drink DE daily and have my family doing it... you would only use the FOOD GRADE to do this... it is loaded with silica - and other nutrients, it's very healthy for you, your gut & your colon.

Do I rinse off the DE before using it? Can I do this with rice? I usually by a 25 lb bag of rice at the time.

You are the only person, but I’ve ever seen use DE they didn’t have on a mask and goggles. I’ve researched this like crazy and it’s horrible if you breathe it in. There’s so many conflicting things on the Internet, but everyone and I mean everyone says do not breathe the dust in. I’ve read a ton of testimonials of people that have had major issues because they did breathe it in, and you were just there fluffing it around I can’t believe that none of those dust fibers are in the air. Either everybody is wrong or you are impervious to the effects of breathing in DE.

There are two main types of diatomaceous earth: food grade, which is suitable for consumption, and filter grade, which is inedible but has many industrial uses. The diatoms in diatomaceous earth are largely made up of a chemical compound called silica. Larry Smith, the President of Earthworks, who wanted to clear up the misconception about any dangers of inhaling food grade diatomaceous earth - here’s what he wrote: “This is a misunderstanding about food grade DE. There are 2 kinds of DE-food grade and filter grade (used in swimming pool and other filters) Only the filter grade is dangerous to breathe. The “dangerous” part of DE is the amount of crystalline silica that is in it. Filter grade is 65% crystalline silica while food grade is less than 1/10 of 1%! The world health org. has said that diatomaceous earth is safe to breathe as long as the crystalline content is under 2%. Food grade is 20X lower than even that level!!”
