I put some in my bag less vacuum cleaner to kill any fleas, ticks etc and any eggs and put it around baseboards. Come spring to fall, once a month when I flip the bed mattress I make sure a wee bit is around the seams. Also do a light amount in the car carpet/seats the day before I go to the full service car wash.
Thank you for this info on D.E. The only thing I knew about it was a pest control man once told me that D.E. heavily sprinkled around my house in AZ would keep scorpions out. He said it was the only effective scorpion repellent he knew of. Their exoskeleton prevented regular pesticides from working.
I just found out that if your eggs have poop on them, then that's a sign that they have worms. I gave my chickens a dose of food grade DE and it worked on all but one, so I dosed them again. I now have beautiful poop free eggs! I also treated my cats fur and no sign of fleas or anything else. Thanks for this video!
Thank you Patera for sharing. I started using DE a week ago and am loving it. I have noticed my joint pain has decreased a little and my nails are getting stronger. Hoping for more joint relief as time goes on. I feed it to my 14 yo cat too.
Love your video as usual Patara! I don't have as many chickens as you do, but I use a Parmesan cheese shaker for my DE! Works great for my small farm of 32 :)
Thank you so much for making this video. I started using this on my urban homestead with my chickens but I felt like I was going to have to trial and error. no one I know uses it. this has been so helpful! blessings, LeXze and Hubby G
I love DE! I have used it in my garden for years. It kills all kinds of pests in the garden. Cucumber Beatles, tobacco worms, ants and slugs all hate DE, that's why I love it. lol
Thank you for sharing. I do sprinkle on my coop. I need to start giving it in their food. Can you make a video about your chicken feed and ratios? Thanks again Patara.
YEAH, glad I found this. Now I know what to get & how to use it. Just have to figure out how to give to our elderly cat, as she is on canned food. I guess just a teeny tiny sprinkle, like a pinch.
we have used DE for 10 years for bugs and I do not have a farm i lived in an apartment and now i live in a house where we got ants and i apply this to get rid of them in the house with chili pepper or i use corn meal for them as well. but i LOVE the plastic coffee shake!! i am doing it today!!
I use this stuff in the chicken feed, lightly sprinkle it around the inside of the coop. Make sure your chickens are outside because it can damage their lungs. Once the dust settles it’s fine. I also sprinkle it on ant piles/hills, in and around the chicken yard, the perimeter of my house. 2 days after I got my pullets, ants were crawling EVERYWHERE! I sprinkled some D.E. in the nest boxes, coop, chicken yard, perimeter....everywhere. The next day not a single live ant to be found. This stuff is relatively inexpensive and non-toxic to everything except bugs. It’s far more effective and faster than sprays, granules or powdered bug killers.
Hi.Then why does the Red lake earth DE say it meetsnfo D,and feed grades specification even though it's a grayish color and the gray is just extra clay and stuff. With white that has been filtered out with the gray it has not.Same thing just not filtered.
I LOVE that coffee container upcycle! I had one in the reycling bin and quickly went to grab it to use to sprinkle out the DE in the coop! Question, do you only used the DE on adult chickens or do you start chicks on it as well?
just an FYI- I use a pharma food grade that is dark, as it naturally contains calcium carbonate. Mine is red lake, naturally occurring lake bed DE, safe for human and animal ingestion & consumption. For you& yours, is using the white a matter of choice, or am I missing something else?
Thanks So Much Patara, I Swear By it too.. DO YoU HAVE A PROBLEM with your Dogs eating The Chicken "Poop".. Just wondering.. I Make Homemade Dog Food for them , ( Raw) , and They still want to Go out and eat Horse and Chicken Manure.. :/ I also Use DE in My Garden as I'm sure you do too..
Hey it works great .not a trace of lice or mites with whatever those things were. I've been putting it in their food also . I think they're going to be just fine.
A quick question Patara. I purchased this product form our local Farm Center. I wondered if you had heard of it in your research before selecting the Perma-Guard. Wanting to use it for internal use as well as in feed...also for dusting for fleas, ticks etc. on the dogs, cats and chickens. Also planning on treating the garden for ants. Here is the link to the product I purchased. epminerals.com/products/naturalde-animal-feed-additive-afa
+Appalachia's Homestead I need some DE for my ranch dogs, we have a big problem with ticks and I have six two month old puppies I need to look out for so I want to try this out. I am unable to find this specific brand at any of my local farm and garden stores. Besides Amazon, where can I find this? I need it sooner rather than later, and it's really my last resort since I can't go out and buy Frontline Plus for more than thirty dogs. If I am unable to get DE, do you have any other ideas on how to get rid of ticks? Love your videos!
McKenna Broam if you have a rural king or tractor supply/far store, try looking up Red Lake. It IS pharmaceutical food grade-a must, makes it safe for even human consumption-and has natural calcium carbonate. I use it for worming also. Dogs & cats w/Fleas & ticks-You might also try-making a cedar oil spritz, & spritzing freshly cleaned bedding-let air dry real quick, then bed down area. Add ACV Apple cider vinegar to their water; be very sure to start with just a few drops in their bowl at a time, work up to Tablespoons depending on size of dogs& bowls.(I have Giant breeds, 120lbs+.)
Bugs have exo-skeletons, we, including dogs, cats etc have endo- skeletons. The DE has really sharp edges (microscopically) it cuts the outside skeleton on bugs, thus they dry up. I can't think of any other way to describe the procedure. But DE reaches to their insides.
