Hya, i just wanted to say how informative and easy going i found your site, and which i found tonight---(17/06/2024)---and showing the Old Lawnmower Club rally of 2024. I've two Suffolk Punches from the mid to late 1970's, both with aluminium engines, and both requiring loads of TLC!---(When i say ''loads'', i mean, ''to be rebuilt''!!!). I have however, a box or two of spares for them. I have a another Suffolk, this one a Super Colt(?) This one last run about four years ago, and is complete, though i've no spares for it. As i was scrolling through your videos--(which i WILL binge watch, paying particular attention to your 'Suffolk' videos!!)--i came across your Stihl 137cc video, ''dicing with the devil''! This video also piqued my interest, not only because of the beast that it is, but because of Stihl's latest saw, the Stihl M881. I have four chainsaws of my own, NONE of them Stihl's, and NONE of them even coming close to the power of the M881, which is a baby compared to the one you own! Stihl's new 'unit' is a mere 122cc, so, big enough really, but compared to your 137cc.....a REAL BEAST!! I am so sorry to have gone on, but i think i'm here to stay now! There are so many good and able Lawnmower sites, and i keep looking for that ''special'' site...seems i've found it! Your's most sincerely, Mikky---(on his wiofe's computer.....Shhh!!)---from North East Scotland.
Hi, i am glad you like them, we have got a lot of very Enthusiastic members in the old lawnmower club who are always happy to talk about the pride and joy, which makes making a video much easier. Yes i do like my Suffolks, in the 60s and 70s they were very popular most families would have had a Suffolk Colt or Punch before the cheap Rotary mowers appeared. The Stihl 090 AV is quite a saw, quite low revving and does have a governor , and even though it is 137cc your MS881 Would out perform it hands down with its cutting speed! Both saws do need to be treated with upper most respect. Great saws Though, The Daddy of big chain saws!!! Thanks for watching and your comments.
Hi, yes not really seen many, the 070 seems a bit more common Stihl have made some really powerful saws over the time. I think a lot as you say were used on Farms . I have used it a long time ago on a large Oak butt and did find it very hard to get a straight cut, the 36” bar seemed to wander a bit. I think these days I would be a bit more nervous using any chain saw without a chain brake. Thanks for your comment.
That is a monster and somewhat rare in this country! I had the pleasure of running an 045 AV while still on the farm and that was heavy. I'd hate to have to use an 090 for any length of time. It'd be fun just for the experience, have you put it into the wood yet?
Good evening. Yes, probably best to call it Sir, given the chance it would make mince meet of me! Little piston in Big cylinder. Yes we need a bit of silliness , yes it does make you think though. Thanks for your comment.
Hi Robin. Yes, built when things were made to last. I have used it a long time ago, it doesn't rev like the modern saws, it is governed but loads of torque. Yes if i see any more will do a video. Thanks for your comment.
the good old mc cullock pro mac was a good model to.Some of those stihl models could be converted to hedge cutters but very heavy to use.@@lawnmowerjones3160
Hi Robin. yes i have worked on a few of those 010AVs in the passed. Sadly quite a lot of the parts are now no longer available through Stihl, but quite likely some one will have on the shelf, old stock. According to the Parts diagram it should be a 3/8 and 7 tooth ( 1120-640-2005 ) I would probably say Ebay, but i am pretty sure Oregon used to do one, If yours is the 3/8 and 7 toothed ? you can probably use that Stihl Part number to cross reference . Good Luck.@@robincoleman6098
@@lawnmowerjones3160 thankyou iIwill have a look around i may have a look to see if any olc members collect chainsaws or have repair buisneses.I did think of trying to fill the groves in it .
