For "Midnight Cowboy" fans, the guy sitting next to Cavett from 0:11 is Jonathan Kramer who uttered the immortal words "Oh kiss it, Ratso!" in the bar scene.
@@paisleybabee Yeah, I was just gonna say that must be her, she was in the original cast of Hair, before getting a part in Woody Allen's Play It Again Sam (the play pre-movie). Unfortunately there's never a super clear shot of her, but you can still tell it's her.
So many stars got their first big break in Hair. Donna Summer lost out to Melba Moore for the American production, but worked in the German production instead. Tim Curry worked in the London version.
I wish Dick Cavett had been more spontaneous and danced with / like / the cast. Perhaps still conscientiously crafting the trade that would make make him a legendary entertainer? Two years he hit all the high notes in covering Woodstock; really way cool in self directing the show by then.
Steve Kozak, thank you for posting this. Wonderful to go back over 50 years! You don't happen to have the rest of this episode, do you? My father (William Redfield) was a guest on it and I'd love to see it.
@@boojersey13 Thank you Vic. Me too. My dad was on a bunch of talk shows back then (Cavett, Carson) but I'm having a devil of a time finding any of it now.
@@adamredfield Hi Adam, just wanted to say that your dad was a fine actor and he represented a wonderful part of my childhood in two respects. I was 11 when Cuckoo's Nest premiered and that film remains one of my all time favorites to this day. Also, one of my all time favorite sitcoms is The Odd Couple and your dad was in a memorable episode as Felix brother from Buffalo.
@@Fordham1969 Thank you so much for those kind words. I appreciate them more than I can say and I know how much my father would have appreciated them also. And I agree, his performances as Dale Harding and Floyd Unger showed off how wide his range was.
Did you ever find that full episode? I was in the studio audience that day. It was an amazing show, because in addition to your father and the cast of Hair, Johnny Carson made a surprise visit.
