Dick Clark Interviews Pop group Bananarama on American Bandstand. Some of the things Dick and the girls talk about are: what they did in the United States last years, whether are not they are models, how long they knew each other, how is it living together, and if they knew Swahili.

The thrill of my life was finally seeing Sara & Keren on tour in Boston last year, after being a hardcore fan since 1986. They both still look fantastic! I got to get up on stage and sing Venus while Sara held the mic up to me!!!

They were so laid back. I don't think they realized they were part of TV History. They were the only Girl Group from The UK to do American Bandstand. Every UK Girl Group that came "after" them now a debt of gratitude to them. They kicked The Door for everyone from The All Saints, Spice Girls, Sugababes, Atomic Kitten, B*Witched, and of course Girls Aloud not to mention Little Mix and The Saturdays. In the UK The Boy Band/Girl Group Market still continues while it dried out in America in 2002.

I've noticed that a lot of British Groups from the 1980's always met each other as Kids. John Taylor & Nick Rhoades of Duran Duran not to mention George Michael & Andrew Ridgeley of Wham.

Siobhan comes across as the shyest and yet is the most animated in virtually all of the TV performances/appearances.

They made their TV Debut on a show called Top Of The Pops which in no way is an American Bandstand Copycat but it's the top UK Pop Show that every Singer wants to do. If you did TOTP, you had arrived. They were backing vocalists for Fun Boy Three. Alot of US Stars who did Bandstand also did the show. Hall & Oates, Nu Schooz, The Jackson Five, & The Jets so it was an indirect mutual appreciation society. Wham appeared on the show in 1982 before Bandstand in March 1983.

What Dick Clark didn't realize is that he was talking to Legends in terms of UK Girl Groups who kicked the door open for future Girl Groups like The Spice Girls Atomic Kitten & Girls Aloud.

Their voices are so soft, women's voices were more softer in the 80's. No aggressive tone-like nowadays.

Even softer in the 70s and 60s. I love those interviews with The Supremes from the 70s and 60s.

@Brittany They certainly do have strong sexy voices, but they are not hard as nails in their tone, they have a mellow assertiveness that isn't shouty, Think Miley Cyrus and Katie Perry as being the opposite.it's more a tone than a sound. 80's women spoke very soft and sexy, they didn't shout out BABE at the end of every sentence and use the words LITRALLY AND BASICALLY after every word.. But i'm not saying the decade didn't give us Courtney love either. it's just a percentage of the girls i knew back then, compared to now.
@halloweenville1

@Brittany Mariah, i can see that, she is 80's era and older generation. It's like this lol. 80's, Darling, i had a really busy day today, i am so sleepy. 2021's HEY, i am LITRALLY BEAT right now, i am BASICALLY going to CRASH, and HIT the bed, SOOO AHH YEAH, SEE YA BABE.

They had no choice. Everyone had to lipsync on American Bandstand. Including, Blondie which they resented. Midnight Special was better. No lipsyncing in that one.

So unpretentious and seemingly unaffected (or unaware, more likely) of their star power.

If you saw a Documentary about their "Lives", they didn't fall into the "I'm A Pop Star" Trap. Siohbhan (Prounounced Chevon) left the Group due to creative differences with Pete Waterman a Mogul on The UK Music Scene and created a "New" Group called Shakespeare's Sister that didn't do well. Her Husband at The Time (Dave Stewart) of The Eurythmics produced them. They got back together and this year marks their 40th Anniversary together. They also were heavily influenced by Tamla Motown as it was called in the UK and did "their" version of "He Was Really Saying Something" by The Velvelettes. This year marks their 40t Anniversary together and their Former Manager Hilary Shaw managed Girls Aloud who are the most successful Group to come out of Reality TV in the UK.

@@laminageWell, "Stay" by Shakespears Sister was a UK #1 for EIGHT weeks in early 1992, with "You're History" (July 1989) and "I Don't Care" (May 1992) they had two Top Ten hits and with "Hello (Turn Your Radio On)" (November 1992) a Top Twenty hit. I wouldn't call this "not going well" 😉

They were so unassuming. No divas at all.
@laminage
@laminage 6 лет назад
That's what people especially in England loved about them. They just loved to perform, they didn't allow themselves to be manipulated by the Music Scene and that's saying alot considering that so many Girl Groups who came "after" them had Diva Drama. Their Former Manager Hilary Shaw would later manager Girls Aloud and they also had to fight with Pete Waterman to release The Promise the same way that Banarama had to fight to get Venus released.
