+Walid Aladssani - Chaka Khan used to sound good when she was younger, but she let drug addiction ruin her career. Her voice sounds terrible these days and she always looks/acts like she's high on something on stage. It's really sad to see so many talented artists let their careers/lives be taken over by addictions.
See how nice her clothes look? No wild , Halloween face makeup like so many now, and this is their everyday look! With wild, wind blown hair, on purpose.
Teena actually is real sweet. I meet her 3xs she let all her fans form a line and one by one we all went on her tour bus she signed pictures, cd's etc. Not too many singers do that. And this is when Lovergirl was a huge hit.. She was so down to earth and nice. Her daughter was there one time she was only 3 yrs old. Damn I miss her so much!! Thank you for sharing your gift Teena! RIP!!!
I never saw this either..She was so pretty here. She was made up beautifully...She did have beautiful eyes like someone else said. Her album covers showed her true beauty very well. But she rarely made herself up like this in public. I was fortunate enough to meet her not long before her passing. She was a rare soul that been here before ... R.I.P lady Tee
I worked at a hotel in New Orleans and meet her in the courtyard there during the Essence festival. I just remember her getting out of the limo and smiling at me, "Hi honey!" I couldn't believe it I was in shock I was so excited. Just an amazing woman may she rest in peace and love.

Met her back in 1992 at Black Music Day downtown Los Angeles, when i seen her i dropped to my knees and said" Miss Marie i Love you, you just don't know!" LOL she said "Baby get up off you're knees..would you like a Cd and autograph? I replied yes but I had no camera God Blessis her may she R.I.P in piece "Portuguese lover".
I agree with everyone, thank you so much for sharing this! I love that she asked you to get up, most stars ego’s would have them get off on that, so to speak; it shows how truly humble she was! 👑💜💕🕊
I would highly recommend scrolling down and reading many of these comments of people who meet her before. It really highlights what a genuine, humble, unique, and rare soul that she was. 💜🕊👑🔮💖
Teena Marie was one of the most underrated and talented singer in the 80's but it is damn shame that she got the recognition that she deserve and RIP Lady T
miss Teena Marie! I love her so much I learned about her from my parents and I’m only 20. I swear I thought she was black when I first heard her lol. I love her raspy voice & I think she was the most underrated 80s singer she was the baddest ❤️ rip lovely girl
Right! I noticed that same thing with Prince too. I had never found Prince videos/clips here until the day after he passed. I love finding clips of my favorite artists as well.
Teena Marie is my favorite artist of all time... I'm 21 and hardly anyone I knows who she really is. It's sad, she was such a talented artist all the way around. And such a class act. I wish I would have had the chance to meet her before she passed! And she is so humble in these interviews. She's an admirable woman and set a wonderful example.
Nor.Cal I think that you are such a cool person, for being so young and loving not just an older artist, but an underrated one too that not many know of. Her voice is from another dimension 💜🕊
She's a cult figure and it's criminal she's not well known. Stupid mainstream media that we get here in Australia! I just discovered her music through JLO's youtube channel!! Square Biz was played when she was getting ready for The Oscars and I said..WHO IS THIS ARTIST?? WOW!!
Why is everyone saying she's underrated? There is not a black person alive that doesn't give Teena props. She was on Soul Train like six times. She's a well respect women, especially in the black community.
I think because Teena wasn't really known in the pop world. Plus truthfully her label Motown didn't market/promote her at all. If a major label don't commit to market you it's pretty much up to the artist to do it. Motown focused more on Rick James. Motown screwed Teena big time.. May Lady T RIP...
I think they meant underrated as far as not being as big as Janet, Madonna, Whitney in the ‘80’s and ‘90’s. She certainly had the chops. I’m thinking a lot might have been unwillingness to jump through the industry hoops.
In my 40s and stumbled on here after reading she died in 2010 and the hotel accident. WOOWW!!! I never knew any of that...just that Teena Marie is an OG and legend. What a heartbreaking story but God bless her soul and family! We are blessed she worked so hard and made the music she did!!! 🥰
look at my sister of another mother and father LOL my girl Miss Tina Marie I grew up listening to her know every song and still have them Merry Christmas Tina I know you up there with Jesus and the rest of the angels that sing that passed away we still love you all and we'll always playing music
Just for Fun she was VERY down to earth and she didn’t try to be anyone but herself--very underrated. Being accepted into black culture is one thing but for her to have the respect she does from black women is priceless!! Teena was the baddest white chic on the damn planet and anybody not wanting to give her her props obviously only listened to her radio play and not all her music cause she has some serious heat bangers!! RIP Lady T!!
A Tina Marie biopic would be phenomenal!! One of her self titles, Vanilla Child! Launching her career at Motown and in keeping with some heavy hitters: Rick James, Prince and the the story behind the lyrics, OMG ..!!!
SHE WAS VERY ATTRACTIVE,...AND VERY VERY TALENTED HOPEFULLY HER BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER WILL BE RECOGNIZED FOR HER TALENTS AS TINA SHOULD HAVE BEEN “THE STAR🌟💫🤩
damn, would be a treasure to see her sing Young Love. She very rarely performed it. I never knew she did a televised version. My fault for not watching Dick Clark all those years ago! lol. Thanks for posting! She looked beautful! RIP Tee
Major Support Being Shown ... Much Gratitude & Appreciation For You Making The Time To Upload This - Fabulous - Subscribed As Well = THANK YOU! Peace & Blessings Symone
I never heard her talking voice🥺😍 I remember listening to her when I was younger and thought she was a black woman🥰 either or Teena can sing her ass off, she’s a powerhouse, and she’s beautiful. I miss her.
Saw her live at a free concert in Brooklyn in 2002. It was the dog days of summer and it was HOT! This woman put on an amazing show and sang her heart out and was so humble. She came off the stage (security told her not to) and stood on a chair so everyone could see her (she was tiny) and sang right there in the middle for everyone to enjoy. May she rest in peace.
such pure talent,,singing & playing all instruments on her recordings + her stage presence/choreography & brashness. R>I>P>"TEENA MARIE" GIVES ME A "MAGIC CARPET RIDE" DURING THE ENTIRE SONG. WHAT A "LOVER GIRL" SHE MUST HAVE BEEN" ONE CAN ONLY DREAM"
Oh yeah, I worked as a stagehand on that tour. Prince wasn’t well known at the time and was opening for Rick, and it soon turned into a history making funk war because Prince’s performances were getting more hype from the crowd than Rick’s. Halfway through the tour the arenas we were playing started getting packed before the openers came out which was very rare, but people were coming to see Prince as much or even more than they were coming to see Rick. Prince had the crowd going more than Rick could. Then Prince went so far as to start snubbing Rick on the way back to the dressing room coming off stage. That was basically adding insult to injury, but these were two greats competing, so what you gonna do, just step back and take it in. It got bitter, not so much with Prince, as he was winning the funk battle and had nothing to lose anyway, he was the opener. Rick I don’t think ever said a nice word about Prince after that. He was pretty bitter whenever someone would even mention Prince's name. It was pretty obvious Prince outdid him…a headliner’s most embarrassing moment-getting outperformed by your opener.
