Dick Clark interviews Wolfman Jack on American Bandstand. Clark asks him about his voice, his family, and takes questions from the audience. He speaks about how he has always been a silly man and how excited he is to be on a Dick Clark show. He also mentions how he is going to spend Christmas with his family and how his wife is very pretty. An audience member asks Jack how he got the name 'Wolfman Jack.'

I first heard The Guess Who when I was 12 singing 'Clap For The Wolfman' here in Panama City, FL on 59DLP radio. 3 years later in 1985 WDLP would turn into an oldie station which also started my fascination with history that went way beyond music. And in that year every Saturday night was Wolfman Jack on that radio station with his 'American Graffiti Gold Show'. I really liked the music and his style. I asked a friend on Saturday night if they could give me a ride to the station across town because I really wanted to meet him. And that is when he put me wise that this is a nationally syndicated show being picked up on a satellite signal and then sent through the 590 kHZ signal. Of course when I was 7 and listening to the radio, I thought there were actual musicians at the station singing every song I heard.😄

It was 1996 so between 4 and 5th grade. I got ready to go to his house when we got the phone call that he passed away. It was so sad. He was a great person. He did do drugs but not in front of me. Musical guests were The Byrds, The Impressions, Don McLean, Rare Earth, and Ike & Tina Turner... Comic relief was provided by George Carlin... The show ran from 1973 to 1981 with a grand total of 158 episodes... R.I.P. Mr. Clark {1929 - 2012} and Wolfman Jack, aka Bob Smith, sometime host of the show {1938 - 1995}...

I always used to listen to Wolfman Jack's programs on the AFN - American Forces Network - from Holland. I was a teen boy those days and loved his funny voice, noises and the great music he played. AFN we could receive through a powerful transmitter on medium wave band, those days. Dutch radio was boring those days. We only had some great pirate stations like Radio North Sea and Radio Veronice and of course Radio Caroline (Still on internet!) But the Wolfman I'll never forget!

It wasn't every day that Dick had a political genius on his show. Why, I reckon that it wasn't every day that Dick had a chance to even talk with a political genius. Well, anyway, there he was, the Wolfman on American Bandstand, generously entertaining all the children with various stories, a song, and even personal histories.

In 1984, Wolfman Jack starred in his own animated series "Wolf Rock TV", co-produced by DiC (who had Inspector Gadget and The Littles at the time) and Dick Clark. It lasted only eight episodes, though it would be rebroadcast a few years later with Kidd Video as "The Wolf Rock Power Hour."

The question from the audience asking Wolfman "if he missed his American Graffitti days" refers to the movie by the same name. American Grafitti came out in 1972 and starred a plethora of young talent that later became stars. Richard Dreyfus, Harrison Ford, Ron Howard, Cindy Williams, Paul LaMatt and Suzanne Somers to name a few. Of course, Wolfman Jack was an integral part of the storyline as the local DJ Richard Dreyfus' character (Kurt) seeks late night advice from. If you get the op to see this movie, don't miss it. The Wolfman was his typical self. . .full of life and spirit. Loved them all.
