This was a very disappointing car for Dick, he didn't campaign it for long and was probably looking for a replacement even as he was racing and losing with it.
I should've, but when the Group A rules came into effect. Ford Aus axed its V8 engine (weirdly). So even though it was allowed to race it had to be with a V6 turbo. And apparently nobody wanted to win in a V6 Falcon. So they went to the germans to get a good car. Most Falcon Privateers ended up in all sorts of cars. The Steve Masterton XE fire breather became a VK Commodore. Despite, Steve Masterton himself saying. "Anybody who doesn't go to Japanese will have a hard time." Isn't that ironic.
Ford did look at turbocharging for the XF, and Dick had done some work with HKS in conjunction with that... but the FIA turbo equivalency factor would have put a Falcon turbo at the same weight as the XJS - much heavier than anything else (remembering that Holden had reduced the capacity of their V8 to 304 cubes to get it under that same weight/capacity point...) the global nature of Group A, and the homologation muscle in Europe (at that time, anyway) made it difficult for a (relatively) low-volume manufacturing industry like our domestic automotive one to get us up to the mark (the VK Commodore was probably Australia's most competitive offering, at least in 1986), and then you had the added hassle of having to build a better mousetrap every model year to stay in contention...
