This is how you depict a 1930s comic film noir with great style and music to boot. The lights that wash the road with a blue hue with the aura of lighting from the buildings. The colored suits and the additional facial features really makes this film up there in artistry and class. Wish that modern film makers can take a leaf out of the book that was produced here by Warren Beatty
I have to say that when Mumbles drops that dollar bill proudly and Big Boy gets so angry was something I missed until I rewatched it; it is so hilarious.
Love this film! favorite periodical film of the 90s along with the rocketeer and the shadow! Breathless Mahoney never gets her man. Awesome montage sequence when dick tracy with the help of a spy takes down the mobs crocked business locations.
Vittorio Storaro did a lovely job with the cinematography for this film. I can see why it wasn't well recieved at the time and I imagine a lot of young children wanting more action than what was in the final product. Definitely a lot more adult undertones than I remembered it to be! I still enjoy the film a lot.
If Dick Tracy was in Eddie's place, he'd immediately know Roger didn't do it. *Lt. Santino:* What makes you think the Rabbit's innocent. *Dick:* You have a man dressed in a gestapo uniform whom somehow bribed his way to Toon Town, moments after your washed up detective's brother was offed by him trying to foil a robbery, but go ahead, insist it was the innocent and funny rabbit that just had a bad day. *Pat Patton:* Careful Tracy, this is L.A. not the City, you can't talk to these cops like that. *Lt. Santino:* No he's right, Judge I would like to have a few words with....where'd he go?
@@gibbs615 That said I think unlike Eddie, she would be genuinely enamored by Dick Tracy. His work and aggression aside, he's clean, polite and extremely courteous. Jessica has a thing for nice guys otherwise she wouldn't have married Roger.
I love the song, & DickTracy stays on top of Bigboy. The funniest part is at 3:07 when Mumbles brings the bag to Bigboy, & only a dollar comes out! Bigboy gets mad & grabs him! That's funny!
I don't know if that's such a good idea. Not saying it's the wrong choice. Pacino has played lawyers and crime bosses, which Two-Face is both. However considering that the reason why Tommy Lee Jones' performance was bad was because the studio execs couldn't tell the difference between Two-Face and the Joker. Had they gotten their heads up their asses, Jones would have killed it. That being said if they stayed on the same present course with Pacino like they did with Jones, he would have been 10 times more hammier than Jones. They would have to use a dental water pick to get what was left the scenery out of his teeth.
I think the music has several meanings. It's a love song, about a woman in love with a man playing hard, but confident he will also fall in love. Tess looks sad because Tracy is too busy. 1:43 It's also related to the hope Dick Tracy will catch Big Boy: "I am going to get him. It's just a question of when." 1:00 Besides, though the events have lots of action and are positive in the point of view of the hero, the song sounds a sad, contrasting "Back in Business".
I love listening to Bernadette Peters' version of this song - she throws a little sly shade at Madonna - "They had some blonde bombshell singing this song instead of me. Of course we both have religious names..."
Is there a video of Madonna singing the whole song, like in a film outtake? My only complaint with the montage is it did not include enough shots of her.
sadly you can't, though there IS a version that comes close, here: it doesn't have the string parts though, and they are absolutely essential to the full effect. Can't find one that has them, except the film version itself. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kJ7z5OdrLVc.html
@@michaelmandatorylastname3671 it doesn't have the additional strings. We are still looking for a version with the additional strings, they are everything:)
great movie, a visual masterpiece with some fantastic acting performance by Al Pacino (Oscar, Golden Globe nomination and Comedy Award winning) and Madonna (Saturn nomination)
I'll be honest, the script is a mess, the direction is so so. I think Warren Beatty is miscast in this and a massively overrated actor in general. Madonna's acting is...well enough said. That being said, the production values and al pacino's scenery chewing makes it worth seeing at least once.
@Pfisiar22 The engaging story, the snappy dialogue, the production values, the dynamic of the characters, the colorful pizzaz of the costumes, the chemistry of the actors, the balance of jazz and whimsy between the score and songs, MADONNA IN ALL HER GLORY (enough said), and yes, Pacino's hamming, ALL make this movie worth seeing MORE than once! You do know that Roger Ebert's DEAD, right? He took some shots at the film, but ultimately praised the majority of its aspects. I don't quite get the feeling you're equipped to be named as his successor, no matter how vitriolic, sardonic, or near-sighted you attempt to sound. However, having all that said, I am inclined to agree with you regarding only your latter comment on Beatty.
