About Dickey’s:
Dickey's Barbecue Pit is a true American success story. In 1941, Travis Dickey, a World War II veteran, opened the first Dickey's Barbecue Pit in Dallas, Texas. Dickey was a true Texas character blessed with the gift of gab and the love of authentic, slow-smoked barbecue. In the beginning, Dickey’s Barbecue Pit was truly a family operation with Travis working the block and Miss Ollie Dickey serving sandwiches. Space on the restaurant sign was rented out to help pay the start-up costs for the restaurant and the menu was limited to beef brisket, pit hams, barbecue beans, potato chips, beer, bottled milk and sodas.
In A Beer and Business, the Biz Doc, Tom Ellsworth interviews entrepreneurs and uncovers lessons you can use today and tomorrow in your own company. See how other entrepreneurs built their companies and what they did to succeed.
About Tom Ellsworth: THOMAS N. ELLSWORTH, is an experienced CEO / COO and veteran entrepreneur. He has been disrupting industries and driving consumer shifts through Venture-backed companies in technology, software development, publishing and mobile that have generated exits totaling over $1B. Biz Doc, one of your missions is to leave people better than you found them - YOU DO with your B&B series. For me the most valuable part of this and all of your interviews is how every person you have interviewed (I think I've watched them all now) has said they could fill an encyclopedia with all of the lessons learned and some of those mistakes hurt really bad. For myself, I often feel like everyone else is soooo much smarter and I'm the only idiot who misses the mark - sometimes badly. Learning from other people and knowing we're not alone is such a powerful part of the entrepreneurial journey, another reason why seeing true examples of the success stories you're sharing is so important. Please don't ever stop finding these real people willing to tell their real experiences. Thank you Doc. Cheers from Wisconsin.

I've just subscribed to this channel 2 weeks ago, in order to give it a chance to watch couple videos and i think I've seen about 5 by now, and somehow no matter how long those videos i can't stop watching till the end. Now this is one of the most amazing high quality interview i have ever seen and this makes me fall in love with this channel and this pretty lady is absolutely interesting ( i wish if i had a chance to work with her ), and i also admire the interviewer and how easy and smooth he keep it going. I've learned valuable information and notice couple mistakes i was doing with my clients that i should change to level up. Thank You Really for this video.

Good insights on automating with ordering on the computer. Tom your making me seem like I need to up my reading with you going over five hundred page books. Too bad this video still is lacking captions for those who need it (and it makes it easy to search the transcript to find highlights to go back over). Thanks for keeping in touch Tom. It is such an honor to be able to communicate with you on a regular basis on someone that has such stature. Until next time take care there, everywhere and on the next video.

Excellent interview. She speaks the language of success. I want little girls to hear this lady speak, and realize that they can KICK ASS. Business ain't a "man's world", but it's dog-eat-dog, and it takes no prisoners. She sounds like a formidable adversary. A Dickey's BBQ opened just down the street from my home in Pleasanton, CA. I have enjoyed every encounter I've had with the folks there. They are onto something.

Tom, thank you once more for so much value. One of the most interesting part was around 27:45 when you brought duplication of processes. I have one question about it. How is the process you use to Identify such key processes. Sometimes I'm afraid to create useless or inefficient processes. Also, dashboards and usable data. I would love to hear more about processes creation, Gathering and making those information usable. It's a pretty dense topic.

This is not related to the splendid interview, but I am interested on your take on the Steinhoff saga, more specifically how the CEO supposedly inflated the share value price with its international acquisitions. Their share price fell by more than 85% resulting in its largest shareholder, billionaire Christo Wiese, to lose $5 bn of his net worth. They made a lot of acquisitions, including MattressFirm, but they have a lot of solid companies that still make good profit.

...And here fellas, is a confirmation that all the good women are TAKEN... More seriously, I like how she points out 2 things: -everyone has to work hard to achieve anything regardless of their upbringing or gender, it's important to seize opportunities that come your way even if they don't seem shiny. You have to take responsibility of your life and fight hard. -Wanting to be the best and "quality of life" are incompatible. It always irks me when "motivational speakers", usually people who never ventured a business but talk as if they know the grind... start spewing that nonsense of work/life balance to beginners. Strap in kids, the first stages of a venture will make going to school a sweet memory... She calls out discreetly women wanting to be entitled to executive positions and complaining about the high pressure at the top. There is no "male dominated industry", it's more like there are few women committed to overcoming the harsh requirements of competitive industries. It is called "labour market" for a reason, it was never advertised to be easy.

PLEASE READ AND ANSWER Hey man this isn’t related to the video but I’m currently 15 years old and I’m very smart and probably the most competitive person ur ganna meet and I’m very good at talking people to do stuff for me and talking my way out of things which I assume would be very good for marketing by getting people to buy my product. I’ve really been wantinng to start a business which I already do some voice overs because I do have a very deep voice but I’m talking about when I’m independent and out of school I could be doing voice overs full time but I feel like that would be a waist of a great mind to do something that could make me millions. The question I have is I dont want to work for my money I wanna start maybe a product or something which I know is going to take a lot of work but abviously once it gets big enough I can relax more and enjoy my time and money more. I have been writing every idea that pops in my head for a while but I feel like that might be too risky to start a product. Again my qwestion is what are the options for creating a multi million business or what have people u met done that doesn’t require to create a product which don’t get me wrong I can do probably but I’m seeing if there’s a safer route

No Way I feel the same way, this lady is definitely a good salesman/women but as far as being a visionary 👎 ! I mean don’t get me wrong, having sale skills is a requirement for being a successful entrepreneur but she’s mediocre in my book. Now, the previous interviews on Beer n Business are awesome and informative... something an upcoming entrepreneur could learn from and relate to. Its about real knowledge like the struggle that most founders goes through, loneliness and desperate measure.. either sink or swim type of struggles. They don’t just talk a good game and promoting the business like her. She just say what she has to say for Dick’s BBQ PR shenanigans! I know some here might disagree with me but it is what it is!
@CaptainPlanet007
@CaptainPlanet007 6 лет назад
I gotta admit, this is my least favorite video from Beer n Business. I feel like it’s more about being a good ceo rather than an entrepreneur. I mean the knowledge and advices given here is okay for day to day operation but it’s missing that “entrepreneurial” type emotion juices! It doesn’t have that Beer and Business Valuetainment type feel where viewers could relate to, instead it’s more like data and graphs bs. Just saying...
