The Tasmanian Tree ferns growing in my garden in the UK. I have had my tree ferns planted out for 4 and 5 years and they have grown quite quickly. They have gone from having virtually no trunk to around 25-30 cms of trunk. So even though they will never get the 6 foot trunks they can be bought as a small plant and grow away well. All i do in winter is stuff some fleece into the crown and if its forecast to go to -6 i will wrap the trunk in an old blanket.
