Exactly. Think they both handled it well. I’m 62 and somewhat mild mannered but didn’t stop me from punching a(padded) wall months ago in league. Not my proudest moment.
I understand Simo.. we've babied pros for years now. Shit every little noise click cough sneeze squeak pin drop machine rattle they stop and throw a fit..in Jonesboro Arkansas Simo slung a bowling bag and rolled my then 5 year old on the ground. I went at him and AJ Johnson grabbed me and calmed me down. However in saying all this... I was the same way we all expect to be perfect I kicked many a ball returns in tournaments. Then one day you grow up and realize what an embarrassment you are and stop. This will happen to him. Then they will name a tournament in Missouri after him. Then he will cry and say how good the young ones are.. oh wait just see Pete Weber the biggest cry baby in history. Simo is just like him
Well I agree with this to some extent, there is crossing the line tho... I think flipping the bird is pretty immature, but its not the end of the world and Its not really a big deal at all. I was confused why people really even cared on Facebook last night. JR said it himself.... He would never flip anyone the bird... And same here... I get very emotional and angry sometimes, but I am not gonna disrespect anyone or take out my frustration on anyone else either.
@@JonHop1 Agreed the flip was over the line and would get you in trouble in any pro sport. But the people that think these guys should show no emotion or frustration are missing it. They are mostly bowling for their lives. Let them show their emotion. This may involve and outburst or a slamming of a ball. Something like that. A guy breaks a bat over his knee after a strikeout people just say oh he's just playing with passion. Bowling should be no different.
@@NathanMoist For me, I more dislike when any Professional takes out their frustration on other people. I have zero issues with anyone showing emotion, but I think when it is directed at other people, that is a problem. Like I said, I think what Simo did was pretty tame and not that big a deal, but I still don't like it when he is using JR as a target to take out his frustration for such petty reasons. This type of behavior should be condemned and not encouraged.
@@JonHop1 You're right. I was at an event where Simo went a little over the line with a scoring unit. At the '20 Players Championship he ripped the keypad unit behind the ball return out of the ground. But I've met him a few times and he has always been very nice.
I appreciate you taking time to bring context and a professional perspective to this. Bowlers are human, have different personalities, and different ways of processing stress. You have laid back, jerks, hot heads, cool and mellow, hyper, and everything in between. Your clip is a good reminder to not take anything too serious... competitive or not its still a game... Keep inspiring and teaching brother. #Respects
Bowling is a fun game. The only thing is from time to time it’s drama that gets involved dealing with great bowlers “pros and the semi-pro’s”!!!!! It’s always great to have fun, the only thing is depending on the circumstances and time, different bowlers are going to have different views of that depending on who they are, if they like to joke and if they are bowling good or bad. Great thing is they messaged each other, all has been squashed, now it’s time to move on and nip it in the bud. Can’t wait to see the Masters tomorrow 👏🏾
Hey JR and Cody, watched you guys at the Masters at my home center. It was an absolutely awesome time seeing you guys compete. Happy you guys did well ! I felt that you two guys supporting each other as a team was helpful like Team Bohn, Brad and Kyle, House …
Ej also caught a bad break with DeeRonn going 784 against him. Not much you can do against that but congrats to all the finalists and Ej for still placing 6th
I wonder what we would've seen and heard from the pros in the 80s and the 90s if we had livestreams of qualifying and bracket matchplay. This really isnt that crazy
It is crazy now in days that anything slips past a camera. Heck I remember the first picture we got to see then an hour a two later we get to see a video from your pair. It would be hard to get a full story 10 years ago but now that everyone has cameras and recording you get to see everything now. Just good to see both ends of the story so it is not just one side with everyone asking what the heck happened to cause that?
I figured you were a class act just by your personality and general demeanor, but this confirmed it. You said it was a non-issue, that people made into an issue on social media and how you didn't even feel like he needed to apologize because you don't get offended over every little thing like 98% of ppl nowadays. Especially these social media fanatics. Props to Simon saying hey man I was just frustrated my bad. So yea let's not make issues out of nothing. Good job to both of y'all at the masters
You had the game won against Vergos. 7th frame open killed it. I was rooting for you. Enjoyed seeing you on bowltv. When you struck you nailed the strikes. You did great. Hopefully will see you on Fox or FS1 finals oneday. Love your instructional videos. If I lived close to you, you would be my go to person for ball drilling and lessons.
Sorry Jr, I don't agree, the fact that these things are expected of Simo does not excuse him from being a jerk every time something doesn't go the way he wants, that in my school is called a stuck-up girl.
JR and Cody bowled VERY well this week! Excellent performance, guys!👍 If Pat Dombrowski wins, I wonder if they'll play "Moon Over Parma"? 🤣(Just kidding-a little NE Ohio humor). 😉
People never realize that when you are a competitor at any level and you're in the heat of competition you react emotionally without stopping and thinking of what it is you actual just did. It happens. While during a tournament in a diff sport my best friend of 27 yrs now almost went to blows in the middle of a game because of a call by a umpire and yet it was a terrible reaction by us both.
I’m honestly tired of everyone badmouthing Simo. He’s one of the coolest people I’ve ever met. He’s constantly donating equipment to our youth program. Every one of the people hating on him are the same people who voted for a broken brained zombie because of “mean tweets”. Look where that got you. CLOWNS.
I checked your performance and Cody and was hoping you could be in the ladder. There was a guy from Puerto Rico who also made the cut Israel Hernandez. To be in those first 64 is valuable, it means that you’re among the best of the world, so congratulations for that.
Great explanation and thanks. For me bowling will make you mad. Throw the perfect shot and not carry will test you. Then if your opponent continues to get breaks it is tough. I am a novice at best but really enjoy watching the pros. Thanks again.
I really haven't paid you much mind, and I promise you it takes both technique and specific strength to throw a bowling ball at a high level, but well played sir. I'm a new fan. God bless and Happy Easter!
I’m glad JR handled it well and de-escalated the issue. My only concern is the professionalism and the sponsors names on everyone’s shirt. I know Turbo and BowlerX wouldn’t appreciate that kind of behavior. We bowlers that carry a sponsors name on our shirts are an extension of their product and or their company. I hope he adjusts for his sake, his sponsors, and the PBA.
Why? This gets them more view time. I agree that at some point of egregiousness, a sponsor won't like it. Anything below that point just is more advertising for a fixed fee. If you do it too often, then I think the other players will start to dislike you. Many competitive sports have this stuff, and it doesn't hurt them. In fact, it draws in viewers. I think bowling needs more of this stuff to grow the sport. When I grew up, bowling was mainstream sport. Perhaps it is too reserved for modern times.
I consider Mr. Simonsen to be the best pro bowler. That he knows who Mr. Raymond is and is willing to have a rivalry with him is really a compliment in disguise. Rivalries really improve the watchability of pro bowling, with the Belmonte/Rash being the best is bowling history.
This stuff happens in everyday life all the time in many work environments. In my experience, if two people truly dislike each other and this happens more than birds start flying. Pete Webber brought this aspect to the game. It got to the point, i think, where people tuned in to watch if he would explode with those emotions.
I dont think it could have been handled any better. While it was not a mature move on his part; the fact he came to you first and apologized before it got out of hand showed maturity. Good showing out there by the way. Was hoping to see you on the show.
No Big deal great bowling this week JR followed you all week. I'm 55 years old bowled the Masters once in my life on my way to Vegas for the Military tournament which I bowl three times a year. Great none issue on the Siomonsen thing it's just bowling.
All bowlers get caught up in the heat of the moment. I have never bowled for full time living but I couldnt imagine not getting heated on somethings. Not a huge fan of Simo but he is one of the best out there. But glad things got resolved
Getting mad at equipment and kicking your bag or throwing your club into the water is one thing. But directing Ill will towards another player is something completely different.
There’s no defense in bowling… it’s why I love the game. You win because you’re repeating shots… and it’s your fault if you lose. You congratulate your opponent and have a beer. Great sport!
Situations like these I feel is partially why bowling doesn’t take off. The community is simply soft and situations like these, where no fuss should happen because you guys apologized like men, ends in people crying about simo saying he isn’t professional. Need more players that trash talk and show competitiveness while backing it up like simo and Pete
To be a pro (in any sport) one needs passion, huge competitiveness and, yes, some ego. When things get tense and it's all on the line... well -- stuff, as they say, happens. You handled it like what you are. A Pro. From the texts, looks like he did too. Next...
Glad to hear you guys are able to do what you do on the lanes and squash all the BS afterwards. The dumbest part about it are the armchair analysts blowing stuff up in the comments that have no clue what’s going on but think they do. Great week out there for both you and Cody and I hope to see you guys in some finals. Stay up
This reminds of the hate Caitlin Clark gets for being emotional when playing ball. People get emotional when you put in all that work. Everyone sees everything she does when the cameras are on her 24/7. People need to relax. Great bowling JR. So happy to see you doing well.
If there was more trash talking it might actually make bowling halfway interesting tho.. if they allowed fighting like in hockey I would imagine people actually wanting to watch
I agree that passion can be shown in different ways when competing in any sport. For Simo's display of passion, although I do not agree with how it was shown, never should have been towards you. If anything, he should have flipped a double bird to the lanes or the pins for him not being able to beat those lanes that particular day. Bowling is a lot like golf, this is a game that has an outcome of only your skill that day. There is nothing anybody else can or cannot do to make you score any better or any worse. Simo may be a really nice guy, I do not know, but this shows a bit of immaturity on his part. However, I am glad that the ones involved have moved past this as we the fans should too.
Lots of bowlers before him suffered identical or worse pressure and never flipped off or directed angry words to other opponents for striking. Some bowlers just have class and are Professionals. As had been said many times, Simo is the only one in his way. He needs to get over himself big time and start moving on to a success mindset.
Emotion. Yeah like the stepladder finals these days. Troup shows the most. Everyone else is boring. Flip back to the 80s and 90s and those guys went ape shit in frame one when throwing a strike. We need more energy, tantrums, shit talking, everything. Everyone making comments about Simo can kick rocks. You're actually one of his cohorts, and the fact that you're like yeah whatever, is the ONLY opinion that matters. 👊
I personally don’t think it is an issue, as we’ve seen worse.. I mean, we had PDW’s entire career. But the issue here is what the PBA would do if equipment was broken or destroyed. I mean, didn’t Holman get suspended for 10 tournaments for kicking out and destroying a foul light?
Some of you people must not ever bowled on a Mens league, this happens all the timecand it's not a big deal, it's Sports like JR said. I've had someone flick me off before because they hit the pocket and left a 7-10 and I hit Brooklyn and obliterated the pins and get flicked off. It is what it is. 😊😊
Now that every one has there own utube channel to discuss there every thought , opens opportunity for people to critique every movement in there day to day life , crazy , no wonder he don’t like you ! Try to add a little a mystery to your day !
It’s great that Simonsen apologized and much better the way you handle it. Colorful athletes are always needed, specially if TV presentation is involved. So far it has not been bad for bowling, a sport that continues to grow. Personally I like sportsmanship but we have to admit that is boring.
@@tonyrauls1941 ehh not every Pro acts like Simo tho... Simo can be a baby at times and very immature, I think we can all admit that... Flipping someone off, 4 lanes over, for gawking at their ball reaction for 2 seconds is a bit bizarre, Im not gonna lie..
JR did nothing wrong, so Simo reacted in the heat of the moment then apologized. What exactly is the problem? The two involved are over it, so make me understand the problem?
I am always for a bad guy. He is the new PDW and I like it. Just like wrestling, be cheered, be booed, but when you come out to nothing, then that is in when you are in trouble. We have too many good guys now, and we need more Simos out there. Not saying he is a bad guy, just saying on the lanes, he is emotional and a red ass just like PDW.
