Great review! Seen many reviews on this product. I am torn between vintage equipment with heavy knobs and VU meters that can heat the house and class D. I did a small DIY with Guntars Smits Ice Power power amp and was very impressed. I will keep the Buchardt 150 at the top of my short list.

Check out the Audiophonics review I did as well. I’d put that at the top of your list.

man, that is one beautiful looking amp! I never thought I would own a Class D amp but I ended up getting the Jeff Rowland 125 power amp and I couldn't be happier. Don't fall asleep on Class D people. Thanks for the video

Class D is great! Glad you liked the Rowland amp!

What are you using for a pre amp and speakers with the 125?
@nelsono4315

@@nc3419 I have the Schiit Freya + which I use in tube mode. The speakers are Triangle BRO3. I love the solid state power amp with a tube pre-amp. I am very happy with this setup

@@nelsono4315 Wow. You're using a $4k Jeff Rowland 125 to drive Triangle BRO3's?! Did you score a crazy deal on the 125? That seems really peculiar to me that you would have such an expensive amp relative to the cost of your pre-amp and speakers.

@@Mark198d while I can understand what you're saying I am very happy with my setup. I wanted a quality power amp which is why I got the Rowland. Could I have gone with something less expensive? Of course. I am getting quality sound from the Freya+ and the BRO3 in my setting. Those can be replaced should I choose to got that route. The power amp is set.

I built my first amp out of discrete components. It was 1971 and the amp was a Heathkit AA-15 that had a similar look to McIntosh. I was 18 and this was my second kit… only this one had 5 circuit boards requiring soldering a buttload of transistors, diodes, resistors etc. I was relieved when I turned it on… and it worked. The price of the kit was about 1500 in today’s dollars. It was also the first time I heard actual HiFi.

I liked it at the time but I think since reviewing, there is better and cheaper out there. Particularly some Chinese gear. I think it’s pretty pricey even with the buchardt prices, considering better others.

I saw your review of the I150 and now I'm watching it here. Could you give some examples of class D products that are currently better than this i150? What if I need room correction? Would these Chinese products still be better than the i150? Thanks!!

I own a pair of the PS Audio m700 mono blocks so I know how good properly designed class D amps can be, The m700's are several years older so I suspect some new amps may have front ends that give them the edge over these earlier designs.

I think this was a good move on the part of Buchardt, the more you contol the better off you are. PS Audio has done the same with their new line of speakers, to bad they are so expensive. From what I've read they are well worth it.

Bringing design and engineering in house definitely allows them to have full control of what is going out.

By all accounts, I would like their speakers. I would be interested if it did *not* include a built in DAC, as I already have a DAC that I love - the Geshelli Labs J2S with the AKM 4499 chipset.

You can still use the J2S with i150…

@@Kerwonderful - right, but the cost of the amp is higher than it would be w/o the internal DAC.

Use this with s400mk2 since March, sounds great. The only minus for me is only one analog input :(

Could you share which specific Audiophinics model you purchased? And what speaker do you have in your system? Thanks!
