I tried Curlsmith because of your videos and I LOVE it. My hair has never looked so good. I’m so excited to try the fragrance free one! I find that towards the end of the day I end up with a headache because I’m crazy sensitive to scents. Thank you so much for the review!
This is such a good video. Since i started i now know how hard it is to create videos, its just so amazing watching your videos and seeing all of the effort and time you put in to giving us valuable information while also keeping us entertained. I hope you never stop ( unless you need a break then ill support your mental health cause youre also such a wonderful person)
I've found I like *most* curlsmith products, but the high hold gels just don't work for me 😩. I'm so thankful they come in the travel size because I would've felt sad spending $30 for it (I'm not one to return things like this for some reason haha).
Can you review shampoo and conditioner bars? I tend to go heavy handed with all my products because for whatever reason I can’t tell how much I need (and I can’t think of a way to use the empty shampoo and conditioner bottles) so if I am going to go heavy handed I am want to try to be as nice to the environment as I can be.
@@jessalynn626 I have my fingers crossed for this. Like Mell I was not a huge fan of the stylers, but I really enjoy the Curl Talk shampoo & conditioners.
Thank you for pointing out that even "fragrance free" products may have ingredients that are potentially harmful for some of us. Don't rely on the info on the front label, read the back.
As someone with a linalool allergy, I was super disappointed to find out they included jasmine (which has a very high linalool content)....was so excited for a fragrance-free curly product as they are virtually nonexistent :(
Same, Alyssa! I am also allergic to linalool and it’s so hard for me to find products I can use at all, much less ones that I can use and I actually like. I was excited when I heard about Curlsmith’s fragrance free line because I’ve heard good things about their products, so I was really disappointed to find out that they still included essential oils.
@@amethyst80 yep me too! the lemon oil I dont understand the need for, it can cause photosenstivity on the skin! Pauls choice has it down as one of the worse skin care ingredients! Hair products end up on our skin thats just a fact!
I don't mind their scents, but it's nice having more unscented products since not every shampoo, gel, hair milk, protein treatment etc will all smell good *together* Sometimes after doing a refresh I smell... Real weird. Like a toddler deciding to spray the whole perfume department on themselves.
Exactly!!! These are great to mix into your routine to not too many different scents mix and match. This is part of the reason I prefer doing one brand wash days!
I love that they are offering a fragrance free line. I don’t think I am particularly sensitive to fragrance, but when I already have a migraine, they can make the nausea worse. And mixing fragrances never smells as good as just one. If their intention was to dupe themselves though, I wish they would name them “original product name - fragrance free” to reduce confusion. Calling it, the “shine line” makes it sound like this is what you should use if you were prioritizing shine as a styling goal, and that doesn’t seem to be the purpose of the line.
So I have been using the Shine line now for about a month. I LOVE the gel. That has been a game changer for me since I have never been able to get my curls to look good beyond my wash day. With the Shine Gel, I can get 5 days without having to use water or product, to refresh. I love the Curlsmith products. They have consistently given me my best and longest lasting results at all stages in my curl journey. It's great to know that they do mix and match wonderfully with each other! PS... LOVE the sweater!!! It just sings Spring to me!
I've been using the Shine Conditioner and Shine Cream for a few weeks now, and have been loving them. Especially since I am super sensitive to fragrances of any kind. Fragrances make me nauseous and give me a headache. My one and only complaint, is all of the fragrance free stuff on the market seems to be only with the more expensive products. At least from what I have found, so maybe there is cheaper stuff that I just don't know about.
I bought the whole line & today is wash day. Now I can’t wait to try them. I’m so happy with how they turned out on you. Thank you for doing this! I struggle with fragrances because of Mast Cell Disease, basically I’m allergic to life & fragrances are a huge trigger. I easily have an allergic reaction that becomes anaphylactic shock & need an epipen. It’s hit or miss for me. The scalp line has been iffy scent wise for me & I have some but haven’t tried it on my hair yet. Most days I’m okay with the other lines, but I really need a stronger gel. Plus less fragrance means less of a chance needing another epipen. I’ve gone through almost 20 this year alone. I have to go test this out!
Emily, I have Mast cell issues too. I bought this line on Sunday. Used them on Monday and again today. I LOVE THEM! I have been looking for products that would enhance my curls and not irritate my skin or smell so bad I had to wash them right out. These amazing. Try the travel sizes. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
@@uberhaute_naturalz84 mcas sometimes has the same ingredients effecting the person with it differently on different days. Example : Monday, coconut is fine, but Wednesday, it causes a reaction. Making your own products is time consuming and labor intensive; most people with mast cell activation disorder I’ve seen have other conditions that impact ability to do labor, and so it’s just not that worth it to spend the time , money, and energy for something that can still affect you , when you can just buy it. Hope this helps!
Because of you and Amanda, I got into the Curlsmith products and now recommend them to EVERYONE!! I don't have scent sensitivity so I love using the regular products with their beautiful scents. The comparison videos are great and would love to see more of them. P.S. I love your necklace.
I hate how it says "fragrance free" but then contains a bunch of irritating extracts.... sucks for people who get contact dermatitis to both fragrence *and* extracts
This is good news! I tried to tough my way through using Curlsmith's weightless air-dry cream, because I liked my hair results, but the scent have me a headache every time. I will be picking up some travel sizes and trying out the Shine line!
I was so excited to use the new CurlSmith fragrance free line “BUT”… was met with disappointment🥺. My scalp was instantly IRRITATED from the shampo, conditioner to the gels. NOT recommending for sensitive scalps☹️. If you’re looking for something that’s not going to irritate your scalp that is fragrance free I would go with the SEEN line. Hopefully they will come up with their own fragrance free gel 🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾
probably those flower and citrus oils, I did email them to express my disappointment! Im sure that wont make any difference though! I WONT be trying these on my head, I use SEEN
All Texture Tuesdays are special but this one is special in a slightly different way Remove the slashes from today's date gives the number 22022022 Mell your favorite number 3 times😁 What are the chances of us all being alive on this date... pretty cool... I hope u all are having a very Happy Texture Tuesday!!! I know this one is going to great because they all are. Thank you Mell💜💜💜💜💜. Thank you Amanda💕💕💕💕💕 May God continue to bless u all
Now, I can understand all the hype around Curlsmith! I cannot tolerate most fragranced products so I bought this line a couple of months ago in the UK. All except the shampoo, and I've not yet tried the conditioner. The leave in conditioner cream is awesome. It smooths and defines curls weightlessly. The jelly holds curls whilst maintaining softness, flexibility and volume. The strong hold gel did not seem to suit me. No matter as the jelly works so well. However, I did not use the strong hold on soaking wet hair, so I shall try it that way next time. My hair is fine, mature, excessively dry, weak and brunette 2a/2b/2c. I know I sound like a commercial, but I am so happy with the results and the ease of styling. I have more curls, more root lift and more volume. The boost to my confidence and the many compliments noting the massive improvement in my hair are much appreciated. Curlsmith Shine Line is most definitely the one for me. And Mel, what an excellent review. You really show all aspects of the products, covering all possible angles.
Mel! They actually just dropped the “Shine Oil”!! (At Ulta, of course!) It doesn’t specify if its “fragrance free” but its part if the Shine Collection! Also, thank you for this video! It is beyond helpful!!
@@ManesByMell 😂 Im sure it will be! And yes, Ulta is always sneaking up on us like that! lol If you do get your hands on it, please share your thoughts! Im also a fan of their Bonding Oil! Always a huge thank you for your videos, insights and laughs Mel!!
I’m definitely interested in trying Curlsmith’s Shine line. I think their Moisture line has too strong of a scent. Their other lines smell really good. BTW, I love the “Muffins” reference! 😂
MUFFINS is a classic! I would take all the Curlsmith scents as a flavour in a muffin, except the moisture line. Agreed there, it’s a strong one and my least favouriteb
I wish they would come out with something that was a middle ground between the shine recipe and the rest of their products scent wise 😭 I love when my hair smells like something yummy but I feel like all their scented stuff smells like someone waterboarded me with a whole can of febreeze 💀
OMG really? I’m sensitive to smells and just somebody spraying one spray of febreze in the bathroom is enough for me to smell & hate when I pass by 😭😂 I can’t imagine the regular smell of curl smith products
@@AL-rl1qe it’s soooo strong!! It literally smells like cheap febreeze to me I hate it lol. When the scent fades a bit like a day or so after the fact it’s kinda nice but when I first apply it it’s so overpowering! If I didn’t like the way the products make my hair look so much I would never buy their stuff again just because of the terrible fragrance lol
THANK YOU MEL!! Scents tend to give me migraines and nausea so I’m HERE for unscented reviews. It’s so hard to find with hair products so I usually have to buy a sample size of a product first and usually don’t end up purchasing the full one, but I have high hopes for these!
I've been using "Odele" curl defining products! I love them and they have a 100% natural fragrance. I'm reading the label and it says "citric acid, fragrance"? I don't know if im reading the right thing! 😄 the scent is really subtle! Also it's no sulfate, no formaldehyde, phthalates , parabens, dyes, no synthetic fragrances. You can get them online and at Target. 👍🏻 I've been wanting to try Curlsmith though! Especially that air-dry cream. I have 3a-3c hair.
I love a strong hold gel but my hair doesn’t like aloe so the in shower style fixer was no good for me so I’m excited to see that the shine gel has no aloe in it giving me a harder hold curlsmith gel to try!
I wish my day 5 hair looked as good as yours! I love curlsmith products… I’m trying to mix and match to see what works best… sometimes after following the exact same steps on a wash day and using the same products I get different results… I know other factors can affect it. Anyways, love your videos like always. ❤️ I love all the silliness at the end !!! Lol 😂
You are AWESOME for doing this video! I was gonna get the kit, but since I already have the weightless cream and jelly, I can just pick the shampoo and conditioner up. I loved the vibrancy shampoo and glow conditioner, but the scent is far more potent In those than the stylers. They triggered my migraines bad. Was SO happy when they released a fragrance free line 😍
Love your videos Mel!!!!❤️ I was wondering if you could review function of beauty I have seen them sponsernd so much around the community! Love your videos!!
I’ve tried them a long while back, they were fine, I liked my bottles but not amazing enough to repurchase, I think it’s too expensive and don’t like their marketing so, not for me! Thanks for watching ♥️♥️
i regularly stalk the ulta “new arrivals” section so when i saw this drop i was SO excited cuz i recently developed a sensitivity to fragrance and like you said i love so many of their products but i just hurt my heart to have to give them away and not be able to use them anymore. But i’m glad i still can & that they’re basically dupes of products i already love! I bought the travel sizes of the leave in and jelly and they work so great together like i kept walking past mirrors and stopping to admire my hair lol P.S. i just checked and apparently there IS a fragrance free oil to the FF shine collection but it says out of stock so not sure when it’s official date to hit the shelves yet is👀 P.S.S. there’s also fragrance free cantù shampoo and conditioner (not sure about styling products idr seeing any. they probably only started a collection with the bare bare minimum) i was wondering maybe you could test those
I’m using curlsmith for my whole routine (with just the addition of cantu for styling) they’re JUST PERFECT ! I tried almost all the products. But like Mel, my favorite are the weightless air dry cream and flaxeed gel ! It’s perfect ! I must say that I mistook the scrub shampoo for the air dry cream multiple times … and used it in my hair … during the styling phase …
Whaaaatt?! I didn’t know the weightless air dry cream is a leave in conditioner! I’ve been using the new shine cream as a leave in and the weightless air dry cream as a curl cream for my daughter. Am I wasting my time with both!?
I started using Curlsmith 6 months ago and every time I’ve gone to the hairdresser, they’ve complimented me on my curls and the health of my hair!! So thank you for all of your in-depth vids on them (just wish they were easier to get in Australia)
I tried their products because of your reviews and I must say I love the blue line, love the smell so I’ll stay with that but thank you for testing and showing us more info on their new products. And as always, the ending of your vids are the best part!
Now what I would like to see is a company come out with a line of products that can be custom scented or have one product line with multiple scents to choose from. Like Vanilla, coconut, coffee, jasmine, lavender etc. I know that’s probably asking a lot lol but I want it
Currently watching as I'm putting the olaplex no3 and no0 😀 you look beautiful and so does your hair. Also where did you get your sweater from! Love it
I LOVE the Curl Smith line. After trying so many I’m done searching. I personally love the scents. I tried the conditioner only in the Shine Line and I’m not sure about it yet. I have “white” hair 70% and I think it makes the white a tad yellow. I will work with it for a bit. They need to make this for us silver ladies.
Purrrfect👍 I am one of those crazy few who has a lot of fragrance sensitivities😪 Life is just better without the fragrances for me. So really love this. Thanks for doing this🙏💖💖 Love all that you do💖💖
Gonna have to check out some of those products. Meaning to try curlsmith for a while. You need to get Purito's centella recovery cream. Great for cuts/grazes/burns. Helps everything heal quicker so burns don't turn nasty like that and it's just a bloody good moisturiser for dry skin in winter. Little goes a long way.
Thank you for this. I was trying hard to resist buying new products until I use up more of my stash. Weightless Air Dry Cream is my favorite Curlsmith product (maybe my favorite hair product). I will certainly try the gel after I finish my one or two more gels.
It could but if you want to know more about acne & haircare products, you should check out this video! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zT1MrjTve9Q.html
Hey!! How does your hair still look amazing the next day ? Do you do anything special with it at night? When I wake up mines an absolute nest!! Thanks a million
I haven't been thrilled with curlsmith products, but I do love the shine line. I mix the shine leave-in with ouidad's humidity curl cream and *perfection*.
Hi mell .my name is adi and I’m from israel. I adore your videos so much and this video even more. I want to buy the bond curl rehab salve, bouncy strength volume foam and the glow perfecting conditioner in Amazon but unfortunately they said that I cannot because of my state. What should I do? Help me please thank you I love you🙏🏻
Have you ever try or review the Biotera alcool free gel ? And what is you comparaison with curls smith ? 🙏 I love so much the Biotera gel but after seeing you video hum I am tented to try it 😉😇 Thanks 💚
Mel thanks for the review. I’ll be looking into getting some samples of the new line. Would you consider doing an episode on selfstyling? For example I can get a great look on my front and sides. But my hair at the back of my head generally falls flat - literally. Thanks for all your teaching. Happy TWOS-DAY 🤗
I tried this shampoo and it was very gentle on the hair like.. too gentle. I put a little bit of Squalane oil in my hair and then went to shampoo with this product and it didn’t really remove the oil much at all. That’s with having washed my hair 2 days in a row with this shampoo. So it couldn’t even remove that little bit of oil in my hair.
I have tired everything and the steps but the products always weight down my hair after a few hairs of wearing it n it makes my curls soft n i like my curls to have a hold help! 😭
Happy texture Tuesday! The best day! Missed my 2 favourite people! Was just watching a seester video before this 😂 Hope you’re having a great day ❤️❤️❤️
there is an oil in the shine series. would love to hear waht you think abaout the Curl Smith shine oil, and if it is worth the hype? bec. it is verry expensive
Did you use the shine and air dry creams instead of regular conditioner or in addition to it? I see they call it a leave-in conditioner. I was at Ulta yesterday and talked to a hair stylist who seemed to think the shine cream had other oils in it that the air dry cream does not. They seem to be the exact same thing except for fragrance.
Rats. Citrus extract is incredibly sensitizing. I had high hopes for this, but it's a big, hairy no. It's mystifying to me that they'd create a fragrance free line that contains volatile essential oils.
Thank you for taking the time to make these videos fun and educational. I'm already feeling a lot more confident in my curls after discovering your channel only a couple of days ago. My 3 year old says my curly hair looks good. 🥰
But why did they have to put so many essential oils and fruit extract oils in a fragrance free shampooo 😭 if I used this I’d instantly have scalp breakouts sadly
Mell, would you say the one that's comparable to the In Shower Style Fixer is as moisturizing? I want that hold, but it's too heavy for my fine hair, so it makes my curls/waves really stringy and kinda greasy. It makes sense, given the line it's from, but I got it before I understood my hair lmaoooo
I have been trying to figure out why you look so familiar, and then I figured it out! You remind me of Scarlett Johansson. I think it's the eyes and high cheek bones. Definitely very similar 😊
Holy Cow, you make it to Day 5 hair? About six weeks ago I started doing the curly hair (well, actually 2B-2C wavy for me) thing, and I count myself extremely lucky for making it to day 4 - but mostly it's more a case of 3. ETA: Regarding the video, thanks so much for doing this one; I've been curious about the Shine line, and it's great to see that most of it is not that far off from the Curlsmith orange label products that i've been using, and which I like. I look forward to trying these Shine products!
ok i just need to say this. As a candian(which you are) the prices are ridiculous. You are not just paying for the expensive product but also the cost of shipping. So you looking at around $50 for a product. So maybe let your fellow Canadian know.
Hey! I L OV E CurlSmith Shine Line and ESPECIALLY because they are Fragrance - Free. “Unscented” usually means no fragrance added or a ‘Masking Fragrance’ added to give a neutral scent. Fragrance - Free is supposed to mean NO FRAGRANCE added of any kind, so I may have the scent of one or more of the ingredients.
Hi Mell! I need help.. I have protein overload but all my hair products contain protein and I can’t go out and buy new stuff, what do I do to fix it without taking a shower? Is there anything that is easy to do. Thanks
