Sure don't rush it but at the same time there is nothing better than real game time, we know they're not going to be playoff bound, so why not let him play and learn. Take this as his growth year. If he sits the most or the whole year, then he won't learn as much. Josh Allen got tossed into the fire year 1 and sure it was ugly at times, but we saw flashes. It just boils down to if the ownership, management, coaching, team, and fans can have patience, like they did with the guy in Buffalo.
@@sirblazing22 Of course, Mac Jones was absolutely horrible. Maye so far has been far ahead of Brissett in both preseason games. Brissett has been lousy which isn't very surprising.
If brockman is predicting hall of fame and multiple titles we can now start mentally preparing for the patriots drafting the next QB of the future in 2028
Great opening chat. Maye's footwork on the incompletion was awesome. What we were waiting to see More work to do but..... I never thought Mac was that great
13:04 Jordan Love, Lamar Jackson, Pat Mahomes, Jared Goff, Alex Smith, Aaron Rodgers, Eli Manning, Philip Rivers, Mike Vick, and Drew Brees all sat at least half a season, and some sat multiple years. I think the opposite of this argument is true; you're much more likely to permanently ruin a promising young QB if you throw him out there without the coaching, line, and skill guys to allow him to succeed, rather than letting him observe the game and see what he can learn from the sidelines. QBs like Payton Manning are actually the exception to the rule, rather than the expectation (since he was terrible year 1, but turned it around rather than developing terrible habits.)
I agree. There is no reason to rush. Drake may out there. Doesn’t mean sit them for multiple years. It just means take time so that he has the best chance to succeed.
Your post is literally the Same thing. We all know from experience they have nothing to talk about until the real games start so they make everything a story.
@@SunniMerlot the original plan and scouting consensus was to let him marinate. It's definitely not the same kind of reaction to maintain that course lol
❗KIRK & TJ PLEASE CREATE A PODCAST TOGETHER❗Kirk's the best. The guy's positive energy is refreshing to have on this show. He should be the full time replacement whenever Rich's out. I hate that big ear guy.
Maye played absolutely mid against second and third string Eagles defensive players (I'm a diehard Eagles fan, so I know how rough some of these guys are). Pats fans need to chill, big time
Yeah I’m. Pats fan, and I have absolutely no faith in May, he isn’t good, but a lot of pats fans thinks he’s amazing, yet the eagles qbs all looked way way better
Lets get this Offensive line together first off lol. Maye's gonna NEED protection. Honestly, I want him to develop, learn the right way! But as we all know with any job there's nothing like live action.
We don't know yet. All Coach said was that Maye made some promising progression. He didn't finalize anything yet. There's still a long way to go before week 1
The greatest incomplete pass in the history of the NFL was Patrick Mahomes 30 yard incomplete pass in the Superbowl vs the Bucs. HE WAS PARALLEL TO THE GROUND AND THREW IT ACCURATELY TO THE FACEMASK AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN CAUGHT FOR A TOUCHDOWN!!!!!
Bull. He threw 2 perfect downfield passes. One not caught along the sideline and the other just dropped over the middle. He had poor protection, but had no problem moving away from it. He was never shaken and handled everything well. No doubt for people who know what they're watching, that he will be good. How good remains to be seen, but anyone thinking he'll bomb are wrong. I doubt you could tell from watching, but I already know he'll be good.
@@BaronVonMunch That is all speculative and depends on his development. There’s no doubt he’s talented. You can see it watching him, but throwing him out to the wolves before he corrects his footwork and learns to handle an NFL offense is stupidity. Most of his throws were checkdowns. You can tell the game is a little too fast for him. You don’t want him out there for a while unless you want another Sam Darnold or Zach Wilson.
Why do you people that know nothing waste your time. Mac Jones was always lousy. In the first year there was some hope that he would be smart enough to overcome is obvious lack of talent. By the end the that season, it was a big question as he did nothing in Dec and in the playoffs. The guy couldn't run and had a weak arm. Maye is 6'4", has a great arm and can run. Very athletic with very good downfield accuracy. Has so far shown great poise and has been able to easily avoid rushes to make positive plays. They want to work on his consistency and have him gain experience. At this point, it is amazing to think that people out there wanted to doubt him. He's almost a perfect young qb to have. He has shown no personality disorders like some qbs have. Couldn't ask for anything more. I just hope he doesn't killed behind a horrible O line. Only reason to be cautious.
Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, & Pat Mahomes have all had games where their first 7 passes were bad but balled out the rest of the game. They’ve also all had games where their first 7 passes were great then they lost the game. We can’t judge either of these two QBs off a handful of plays like come on
My opinion about drake maye is to start week 1 with him. The best experience he could get is by play not in the sideline looking at other. For example CJ stroud. Times that with living now is gold. God bless all.
He moved very well, he handled the rush very well and most of his passes were accurate including his deep ones. Maybe a couple of passes were off, other than that it was all very good. Brissett was horrible like he was last week and most of his career.
I cannot take much more of this lol. Even Maye's biggest fans have admitted his arm and his athletic talent were not his flaws. His flaws were his ability to run an NFL level offense, which is what AVP runs and wants Maye to run. Both Maye and Milton have discussed with reporters how little they have worked in an NFL style system since Pop Warner. With that context I ask you all, why are we freaking out when he makes a pass? We should be freaking out when he starts recognizing schemes and play calling his receivers open. That's what the Bradys and Mahomes of the league do at a high level to ensure success.
I don't think he should start but I thought he looked pretty good last night. His receivers had a couple drops on almost perfect deep throws that would've changed the whole narrative
Will only say, it's hard to start Maye and then pull him Have guard all camp how he want ready, up and down The knock coming in was his footwork I will let the coaches who see him day to day decide I have faith in AVP The entire coaching staff starts with technique Oline, WR and QB all are being developed
Jordan Love sat for 4 years and still had to go through growing pains last year. I like what the Pats are doing, sit Maye to start the year and let him see what game prep looks like, mid season once the playoffs are out of reach, let him play and start the development process. No one thought Herbert was ready either until they botched Tyrod's pain shot and Herbert balled out rookie year
That's an argument _against_ sitting the QBs down. It's like this: if you built a car for an 8-year-old, no 8-year-old would have the ability to multi-task, look out for traffic, pedestrians, hover over the brake while signalling. When does any individual naturally develop the ability to multi-task enough to be a QB? Around their 23rd birthday for men. Purdy is the same age as Fields & Lawrence who yes, did benefit from not being put in too early. Lawrence is an unknown because of Urban Meyer & Fields was undermined by his coaches & roster but looked The Most NFL-ready coming out of college. Simply put, your mind reacts to being surrounded by NFL linemen trying to sack you by going completely in to Fight or Flight panic. Zach Wilson. The very time the individual becomes capable of registering this panic but *setting it aside until the pass is off* is when they need to get in there. & we don't know where that is until it happens. Peyton Manning had this inner switch flip mid-way in his rookie season. Once it did his INTs reduced greatly. Why? He wasn't flinging the ball in a panic like Zach Wilson anymore. If Maye is at that point, no amount of sitting on the bench will do him any good. Stroud didn't need it.
@@5percent_95isLost Mac Jones made the playoffs as a rookie. And then Bill got triggered! We don’t have to worry about Mayo getting triggered over Maye, and Brisset proved why he’s a journeyman to begin with! Maye is literally the best option now, it only makes sense to start him and let him learn from REAL GAME EXPERIENCE!!!
@@ChewsCarefully if he is ready to go week one then you start him, if not you wait until he is, it depends on the guy.he Also the pats o-line is not good so he may develop bad habits if rushed on the field too early, you can't make a franchise qb in a couple games but you can ruin one.
@@Nightlingbolt makes sense if he's in a Caleb Williams situation but maye has one of the worst skill position groups in the league and a below average o-line, so if he is not really ready the experience you're talking about will be him running for his life and developing poor habits
Before the draft as a huge patriots fan, I was saying I really hope we get Drake. Or Jaden. I believe both of them will be much better than Caleb. I was hoping Drake only because I think Jaden will be plagued by injuries. He got taken out of college games for getting hit hard. He’s very skinny. Potential to be phenomenal though. Seeing Drake make a few of those throws last night was amazing. Joel klatt had him at 2 for a reason. He’s only 21 and he can make throws that some veteran QBs can’t. Oh yeah, and he can run. Lol. When he’s 24, he won’t even be in his prime. He’s very accurate and he can run. That’s a nightmare for defenses. Patriots have something very special with him. Three years from now I think they will be making a run in the playoffs.
Brockman when talking about the Pats is "almost" worst than listening to Nick Wright talking about the Chiefs. I have to mute them both. Just hyperbole, biased & nonsense!
@@RichEisenShow I personally LOVE IT! Keep it up, was SUPER funny about TJs eye's being bad😂😂 anyways you might be on to something. You called that Celtics run last year 🤷🏾♂️
If you watch the show consistently you’d know he is just messing around. I’m with you on Nick Wright tho, he is most definitely not just messing around. I already hated the Chiefs but he puts the cherry on top. Screw the Chiefs and screw Nick Wright.
Yes the Pats are winning the next ten super bowls...Maye will be the greatest individual in the known universe not alone a great QB. Let's make all the bust now...
As a RAVENS fan who endured about 15 years of PATRIOTS dominance, it's good to see them (PATRIOTS) rebuilding and not a guarantee roadblock for my favorite NFL TEAM. Salute 🫡 to a long, miserable rebuild all you PATRIOTS fans, you all can get ready for the 2025 NFL DRAFT, this season is already over. 😂😂😂
Common Brock, Milton was so much more dynamic and entertaining the Drake. It sucks we wasted a first round pick on Maye but I'll take the junior Cam Newton in Milton any day, He's the TRUTH.
The question is not who is a better QB, the question is how good is the OL. IMHO, until the Pats can field a decent OL, Maye shouldn't see the field. Yeah, that's making Jacobi the sacrificial lamb , but the simple fact of the matter is that the NFL has countless examples of highly drafted QB's crashing and burning because their OL sucked and they got hammered too many times. Which meant they started feeling pressure when it wasn't there. This in part, was what happened to Mac Jones. Yeah, the coaching after McDaniels left was bad, but that doesn't explain why he had the same problems under Bill O'Brian. The hits made the difference.
Drake Maye may be the real deal. The defense is legit. But no RBs and mediocre WRs means the Pats will still struggle. Start Maye maybe in the second half.
It's not about "winning the job," I don't care if he's suddenly Josh Allen; it's about being able to protect him so that he isn't injured or set back. It's not difficult to understand. The current O-line is not capable of that.
The people who know what they're talking about are saying this. The main question here is the O line. Brissett may be the worst of all qbs they have. Zappe has shown more in his brief career. Milton has more talent, but will make a lot of mistakes. Maye is far more talented and looks very poised. Main question is his consistency. But we will need to make sure he will have some time to operate.
I said all this BEFORE the draft. Had Maye as the top QB coming out Pats need to sit out Maye as much as possible and then draft the top o lineman coming out and get the best free agent o lineman they can . And a # 1 receiver .They can compete for a super bowl in 2 to 3 years
@@mr.t3782 We did, most of those yards were YAC on the screen pass. He showed he can call plays, snap the ball, and deliver it. Anyone who has been paying attentions knows Maye himself confirmed he hasn't run an NFL style offense. Think Milton even said to reporters he hadn't since Pop Warner. People have to relax, we knew he had a good arm and legs that was never the reason to start or sit him.
If you think those second stringers arnt giving it all, you don’t understand being competitive or loving the game you play. A guy who gives 10% gets cut. I do agree it’s just a preseason game though and it’s going to take more than even 1 season to really start to judge Maye.
I guarantee you every backup player is giving 100% the coaches are keeping things vanilla but the backups are all trying their hardest 😂 what an asinine take
Ya so was Herbert. How do I have a feeling drake will come in a couple weeks in a dominate, you can’t keep huge athletic qbs with a cannon on the sidelines for very long
I could not care less about this team and their QB situation but here are my $0.02. It's ok to play your rookie QB as long as the fans and ownership understand the situation. If it's about him getting reps, real game experience, against NFL players, that's fine. The problem is that it rarely goes that way. The media and fans would criticize him for every mistake he makes. There is no real answer to the sit him or play him question. Jordan Love sat for way too long, Stroud was great as a rookie, Mahomes got one year to learn the ropes from Alex Smith before taking over, Purdy took over mid season because of injuries and never looked back. To me, that looks like there was no real benefit in sitting these players and they just delayed the inevitable (which could be a bust or a franchise QB)
So let me get this straight brockman was upset Milton was looking so good last week and he won the game but Maye was looking so average but he's happy??
Milton is clearly very raw. I like his talent, but he will need time. He has made some very bad throws that should have been picked. Maye has looked very good, your average comment is asinine. And Maye hasn't done anything stupid at all as opposed to Brissett that makes dumb mistakes constantly. The only complaint anyone could have about Maye is that a few of his passes have been slightly off. Every qb has those, but the only thing Maye needs to keep improving on is his consistency.
Hammer time. Lol Tj might be my favorite person. Unfortunately im a giants fan and his cowbows have been kicking our teeth down out throat for the last several 6ears
I think it's the Josh Allen comparison effect. Josh Allen is more athletic than Cam Newton and people are hoping Maye is going to be like Josh Allen. But ya, massive reach at this point. I loved watching Cam during his hey day.
Cam was broken down and not good with the Pats. He was kind of a power runner, but he was an absolute horrible passing qb. That isn't very athletic. Maye is able to handle pressure and athletically make a good pass to pick up yards. He is a far better athlete right now that Cam was when he was with the Patriots. You need to smarten up.
If you didn't know where they were drafted, you would have walked out of that game thinking the Eagles Tanner McKee was the number 3 pick and Maye was drafted in the middle rounds.
I love celebrating preseason incomplete passes. Patriots didn't do enough with all their cap space to shore up the O-Line and get a WR to help the offense.
No No No - Strategically it's (1) Jacoby and if/when it goes south insert Maye. This way it's less pressure for the rookie. Remember this is pre-season. Good luck Pats
Those are all overreactions by Brockman. You have to hope that Jerod Mayo, the coaching staff and the front office don't ruin his career before year 3.
That's the only question. Maye has proven he's a great prospect. People with football brains that have followed this already know that. The question is whether the Pats have the people running the show that can make it happen or will they screw it up.
Be patient. Sit Maye. Unless an injury occurs to Brissette. Build the Oline first. They Got promising young WR pcs and a young stud at RB to build around. This will be a slow process. Something Pats fans not used to. Fugg this win now mentality, do it right the first time and win for a long time!
offensive line is offensive. Let Jacoby get mauled for first 5 weeks until you can pick up guy on waivers and make O-line ok. Then put in Drake and actually have a chance to win some games.
Wtf? Maye has an OBVIOUS hitch in his throwing motion. 😅 Dude is going to get picked with that delivery. Cbs will jump those routes all day. I never noticed it at UNC. Drake BETTER fix that motion or he'll be a pick machine in the NFL. This isn't the ACC. WATCH the tape. That hitch is BAD!!! WATCH!!
Jones was kind of a Brady clone without the Brady mind. Maye is at least a QB that suits the current NFL. He's got the talent. Now we find out of he's got the mind too. he needs a coach like Reid, who walks up to Mahomes after throwing an INT, in the Superbowl, and just says, "keep firing." Maybe Jarod is that guy. Bill definitely wasn't that guy. When you see QBs regress as much as Jones did, that's on the coach not the player, in my opinion. That's a coach giving him some rope in the first year, but pulling it back in the 2nd year. I mean, you rarely see a qb have a great rookie season and then turn into a 3rd string QB. They may regress because the league has more film to study, but not as much as Jones regressed.
Yes, he thew 2 perfect bombs that weren't caught. That is a good sign. The sideline pass was amazing, but the receiver couldn't catch it because he probably isn't very good. The 50 yard bomb down the middle is an easy catch for a good wr, but again the kid dropped it. Yes, people who understand football know they were great passes. Both thrown with a soft touch making it easy to catch. Doing everything else good helps.
@@markosekulic119 You are out of touch nor are you staying in the present. It didn't ruin Tom Brady now did it? No, Mac Jones is with a different team right now. Drake Maye is not Mac Jones, so please stop with the past story and stay on the present. Thank you.
