I remember reading the autobiography of Muhammad Ali and, I remember Ali sayjng as a youth and, all he saw were big slowfooted, lumbering, slumbering heavyweights standing in front of each other...just beggin to be knocked out! He said he wanted to be a Heavyweight but, be as fast as Sugar Ray Robinson! For the most part, even his worst critics...would admit that he achieved that in all respects! Now...this situation over who hit harder Foreman or Shavers...they both could hit hard! the difference was technical soundness! Had Foreman been able to box better, with the strength that he had...he could very well have beaten Ali "against the ropes" in Zaire! Shavers could box better than Foreman but, he didn't have the good follow up technique he needed when he had Ali in trouble! He had his chance! He even realized that he should have put more pressure on Ali...Earlier! They both hit as hard as a mule could kick and, don't forget Ron Lyle...who Punished both of them!

So, from my understanding of Leroy Caldwell's analogy. George Foreman's punches delayed upon impact. As for Earnie Shavers he had short burst of power when he shot punches because his style was tighter than Foreman's which allowed for consistent left and right punches. So, Earnie had volume over Foreman's brawling. Something I'd like to point out is that George Foreman and Earnie Shavers both have 68 WINS BY KO
@fernandoblanco3001
@fernandoblanco3001 2 года назад
Ali, Lyle, Ken Norton, Jimmy Young and Holmes stated that Shavers is the hardest puncher they've ever faced. In addition, Foreman was not only more skilled than Shavers, he had better ring generalship and defense. Also, Foreman was in better physical condition and had far greater resistance to punishment and a better chin. If Lyle had these same attributes as Foreman,, it's likely he would've been a world champion. Shavers often fought in the low 200s as a heavyweight, however, his power punches were.faster than Foreman's. Power= strength+speed. A similar comparison can be made with Gerald McClellan and Julian Jackson. While both boxers were ko artists, Gerald was a punishing, thudding puncher like Golovkin in recent years. Jackson was mostly lighter in weight than both and delivered his punches faster but with similar strength, that's why he had devastating one punch knockouts and is generally considered the hardest middleweight puncher ever.
@snowhuskybaalkaii8621
@snowhuskybaalkaii8621 2 года назад
Shavers was a pressure fighter like Tyson : get close and use the whole body in a explosive fashion to put the opponent down with a destructive punch , this is the style that allow the best use of your power but drain your stamina and put you at the most risks . Foreman was more about distance management and using insane powerful reach to counter ( best example of his style is the fight against Frazier who got destroyed by ducking when trying to pressure Foreman ) . But at the end of the day Ali did beat both Shavers & Foreman so destructive power is not everything .
@snowhuskybaalkaii8621
@snowhuskybaalkaii8621 2 года назад

Thanks for this video. I didn't know anything about Mr. Caldwell, but he was there and his perspective is fresh and different than the ones that get polished by the media. I love to hear the veterans tell their war stories and history in the ring. Even the most vicious in the day can make you appreciate what it was like and you see how time has aged and mellowed them like a fine wine. These guys don't need to force anyone to respect them, they earned it. From what I understand..a lot of those fights back then were either thrown, melted down for silver (esp b+w) & stored wrong & celluloid cracks with heat & cold. I wish l cd find the fight too man.

Its different tho cuz shavers hit more like a missile it was quicker and more snappier than foreman but foreman was like a truck slower but the shear mass and weight it had just like he explained, george would club his opponents till they gave up. Overall i think it goes to shavers but george is definitely the heaviest hitter thats just what i think

Everyone Says Shavers. Why did Shavers not have a better career?
@PabloElChefe
@PabloElChefe 2 года назад
Glass chin, he didn't had great boxing skills and he had suspect stamina.
@youtubemodsaresnowflakelef7692
Because it takes more than great punching power to become a world champion and hold on to your title. Morrison was a FAR harder puncher than Tyson (according to ALL of their common opponents), and yet he didn't have that great of a career.
