Fischer achieved a rating of 2785 without engines, data bases or computers. That is the most astonishing fact in the history of chess.😮

Morphy’s accomplishment may be greater, since he did not have the competition Fischer had to spur him on

But is 2785 yesterday the same as 2785 today? Or does the Elo score value fluctuate like currencies of money?

I have a question. Why is this channel so criminally undersubbed? Your game analysis is clear and well-paced with a few alt lines thrown in that don't go on forever. ? Maybe people need more comedy and drama so they prefer those channels? I just subbed so now it's 19K + 1. :)

I really appreciate your focus on chess games from the Fischer era. No engines, just pure talent. Like so many of my generation (b1954), the Fischer/Spassky match was the catalyst for chess players to become more involved with organised club chess and tournaments. Your style is very calm and informative unlike other channels which seek to sensationalise top players. Keep it up chessdawg, and we will keep watching.

The rating is not everything, because it is calculated based on constant winning results at a specific time: Magnus's rating is higher, but it is not a fact that he is better than Fischer or Kasparov.

Very instructive game against Dutch GM Jan-Hein Donner, who was also writer and chess columnist. He once wrote: "It is mainly the irreparability of a mistake that distinguishes chess from other sports.", which illustrates this game too. At the age of 11 and youngest among the other 39 players I played against him in a clock simul in 1973. I lost after 20 others, which probably made me a chess addict.

@00:42 FWIW, a quick google says: The proper pronunciation of the word "fianchetto" is fee-ahn-KET-toh. The first syllable isn't "fie", and the "ch" is pronounced as a hard c, as in the word "cat".

I agree with @TruthSurge -- this is the premier channel for game analysis!!! Enthusiastic, precise, interesting, with well-selected games showing off important themes. My only "complaint" is that the games go so fast there are always some tactics & strategic ideas left out... but if you go much slower you will get bogged down by details and lose the high energy. All in all, I like it the way it is, the pace keeps me riveted. :) I can always hook up my engine to test my ideas afterward. Keep up the great work!

We don't think so, although Fischer was one of the best. In general, no chess player achieves perfection. However, we compared two games between Petrosian and Fischer in 1959 and Petrosian and Kasparov in 1981. Fischer - 16 and Kasparov -17. In general, it is not comparable to chess. But based on these games we made a comparison. The young gentlemen lost to Petrosyan. 1- Fischer played smoothly and carefully, with smart combinations, but lost the game with full knowledge of his mistakes. 2- Kasparov was more tactical and impatiently attacked endlessly until he unexpectedly lost the game. It is now clear that both of these players were top superplayers, although they lost their game. In our opinion; Fischer is considered a more self-controlled chess player. - An advantage in chess. Kasparov is more impatient - A disadvantage in chess. Who is the best is up to you to judge. Success.

I think one of the keys of the match have been both black bishops. Maybe unnoticed but much stronger than the pair of white bishops. Together with the knight on c4, they decided the match.
