It's definitely not a diss. It's flexing for sure. He's posturing and sending a warning to Em and other Emcees that he WILL be taken seriously in this genre. I love to see Nate getting his confidence. Em is still my favorite rapper as I've been listening to him since my 20's but NF is in my top 5. Honestly, I probably bump this album more than anything else right now.

I think Em did mention NF, I’m just no convinced it’s a diss. Have the best say you are like him seems more a compliment to me. A clone in and exact replica, not a lesser version, so I don’t think NF should be offended by that 😂. As for this song, I don’t think it was at Em at all. He says the Team line, tells you exactly what he means (me) and follows up with don’t misquote him. Also, Em doesn’t smile, so can’t wipe off that arrogant smile. I don’t think it was directed at Eminem. I took it a totally different direction. He mentioned “team” before in Intro I referring to the team at Capitol Records. If you look at the copy right for the Search record on iTunes it does not mention Capitol, only NF Real Music LLC. Makes me wonder if he restructured his arrangement with Capitol. He also mentions in another song that he went from employee to employer. Also, people could be overlooking the T&A part of that line. With T&A being synonymous with “tits and ass” and NF being known for NOT rapping about women in that way, you could pose that he is saying he feels like it is only him not rapping about female anatomy. It’s a big reach, but more likely than a shot at Eminem. I still think it more likely about his arrangement with Capitol or, perhaps, just his creative process in general.

But, Nf says, "If i wont say something to your face, i wont say it in private." an that tells me if he's gonna diss somebody, hes gonna say their name and make it clear that its a diss. The part that sticks out to me more is when he says”I’m generic, you sure?” And finishes with “While I’m wearing my merch stomping on your arrogant turf.” Because Em called him a clone so if that’s true he would have to be stomping on his turf. It’s also entirely possibly he’s just going at haters in general and the industry for essentially ignoring him. We may never know for sure and that’s probably how he intended it🙃

From Em’s ‘The Ringer’ (almost the entire 2nd half of the Track), to ‘Forgot About Dre’ references, his video to ‘Cleaning Out My Closet’, and MANY other themes in Eminem’s other albums. NF also, I believe, addressing those that have the never ending comparisons of him and Eminem... A lot of it is a subtle theme throughout the entire track of ‘Returns’ and some is a very obvious, direct response. It’s done in such a way, it’s almost purposely done so that it’s up for interpretation...
