Hi Andy, Dave from Progression Bikes in Dunkeld here. love the new ride(same as mine) next time you are in Dunkeld pop into the shop and I'll talk you through how to loose the kiox display/ cables and all the best bits of your new Mondy
Stuck in a comment earlier but it dissappeared. I have the same bike and love it, its an absolute beast of a thing. I have had to change the wheels as the rear snapped a few spokes, i run cascade calipers which made a huge improvement, also have an AXS mech/dropper and ditched the Kiox. You will love the Ohlins!.
Surprised about the wheel, these are meant to be super tough. AXS is just too much extra money for me to justify right now as the bike was enough as it is😬 The Ohlins is a known entity though, already love it on my Claymore👌
Nice to see you havn't thrown this one in a lake 😂 I was looking at getting this one but went for a whyte 180 and love it,looking forward to see how you get on with it 👍
Excellent review Andrew and very honest. It will be interesting to hear how you get on with Bosch. Had the same story with Shimano E010 fault requiring a new motor on my Orbea Rise. Reckon there must be a Mount Fuji style pile of these motors somewhere in Japan with the amount of people who have replaced them.
I think you'll love the new bike I've got the Mondraker Crafty XR and it certainly improved my riding and confidence geo and feel of the bike took a little getting used to but now all my times have improved, let's see how you go All the best Arthur
We (me and wife) have just done exactly the same except that we bought the base model Crafty which has 38mm Fox Performance suspenders. Had to get away from Shimano due to motor failures and problems with the useless, overengineered and badly implemented derailleur clutch. First impressions of the Crafty are that it is very heavy in comparison to our Orbea Rise M20s and we love its suspenders. If you're struggling with walk mode on steep loose stuff, your LBS can reduce the speed to a very comfortable 2km/h. I'll be interested to see whether you get rid of the Kiox display and wiring as I'd like to do the same.
Nice! Good choice. Derailleur wise, I totally disagree based on my experience. Only had to service one time in many years. The Crafty is definitely quite heavy compared to the Rise, but it rides lighter than the Vitus, despite being about the same weight.
Genuinely helpful review that will help people decide before parting with their hard earned! Your channel should be the benchmark for the industry! Keep up the good work.👍
My E Sommet came with the steering lock in the headset way out of adjustment. I had to disassemble the headset altogether. The cable routing was a pain in my backside, but it is doable for anybody that has some mechanical ability.
Hi mate, I’ve got the RR, I ditched the display and wires straight away! Remove the top tube controller there’s a link wire from that to the kiox, get rid of that, the remaining wire into the kiox then has to plug into the top tube controller bypassing the kiox! It’s a bit of a faff but way better, you also have to delete the kiox on the app! Good luck.
Hi, you wont need to drop the motor to do the brake hoses, i changed the ones on my crafty, i just used a rock shox barb adapter, attached the hose and fed it through the frame easily,
@@McTrailRider ok , I thought you were swapping a cable from each side to the other side, great choice in bike though, I love my rr and the kiox 300 is easy to remove just need to take the main lead from the motor to the control unit
Best looking ebike on the market IMHO. I have a Mondraker FPodium DC R and it’s incredible. Currently have a Levo gen 3 for ebike but I’d love to ride a Mondraker ebike.
Great to hear not only your take on the new Mondraker bike but also the Vitus which, finances allowing, would consider buying a newer version of. Have been running Bosch performance CX motor on my ebike for years and with only one error message(🤞😂) has run well, albeit a lot less than I imagine you have been out on the Vitus. Very informative thanks for sharing, cheers! 😁🤙
Great choice there Sir. Totally with you on removing the Kiox, all you need is the mini remote and smart controller, no need for screens on bikes. Get it off 😅
Awesome bike, been running the Crafty R for a year and its a beast, ran a mullet set up previous to the Mondy but the geo on the Crafty really lends itself to full 29". Its a long bike but surprisingly nimble of the tighter stuff. Rig......
Beautiful ride, maybe biased on my part as I recently purchased the same bike, I swapped out the rear shock for the ohlins coil and Im smitten. Its my first ebike so nothing to compare it to, suffice to say I love it
Nice upgrade! Really curious why are you so keen on the Öhlins suspension. I myself have a Mondraker Level 2020 and I'm pretty satisfied with it, although I still struggle with dynamic ride height on the front, the Lyrik having a rather big appetite for travel. Enjoy it to the max and really looking forward to some long term impressions in about a year or 2. Cheers, mate!
I’m lucky enough to have three bikes, Fox, Rockshox and Ohlins split between them. I preferred the Ohlins because of its well damped default setting. This forced me to ride a more damped setup than what I was used to. Once I got used to it though, and after I went fast on it, I realised that I could ride faster and more composed on Ohlins. I’ve since tried to replicate the feeling on my Fox suspension, but can’t quite manage to get there.
favorite bike of all time was my vantage rr back in '16. frame cracked at the top of the rear triangle and i my warranty was void because i failed to enter some paperwork. to replace it i looked for the plus version of the vantage and they had done away with the vantage line :(.
Nice Bike Andrew i hope you get years of fun on it i love my bosch motor and sram rst brakes, chainsets and every thing ive got on my Xduro Nduro Pro Emtb, Your motor has good clearance and the slimline angles remind me of my bike which was voted 2nd best bike of all time in 2014 the only Emtb entry! and now 9 years later the geometry has evolved to the bikes we see today and seeing your new Emtb i could never afford one but am content with one of the forerunners👍🔥🔥🤘😎🤘🔥🔥
I remember when your bike came out, quite something 👍 The Mondraker’s geo isn’t to it there by today’s standards, but only because everyone else has caught up.
@McTrailRider. I can help you with removing the screen and extra cables. There is a nice easy way to swap over the brake lines as well. No motor removal needed
I've still got the old Bosch CX (Gen 2) and aside from a full rebuild in 2021 (just worn out bearings) it's never let me down or thrown an error code in 5 years...have a friend who went through 3 or 4 E8000 motors in that period- randomly stopping working, error codes, can't cope with water and they are effectively "disposable" as they cannot be rebuilt , and heard the EP8 is just as crap..... Would never buy a bike with Shimano motor and maybe that's why Vitus teamed up with Bafang in their Mythique LT releases....probably fed up getting their good name tarnished by Shimanos pish motors....Cracking bike BTW!!!
Funny you mention the E8000, mine was no problem at all, and is still going strong for the new owner. The EP8, not so much. Bosch definitely seem to be the benchmark at the moment👍
Welcome to the mondraker club 😁 I've got the RR....you will definitely want to replace the code R it came with! Pretty much had zero issues with mine...great bike
@@McTrailRider I think I was just maybe unlucky...had a few sticky piston issues! It was better when changed to galfer pads tho but was just always worried about the pistons so just got hopes! But the mondraker has been awesome....done 2500 miles mainly natural rides and mountains and hardly missed a beat!
@@shannonmtb ironically I find sticking pistons to be the only and most common problem with Hopes. The new ones are much better though. Good to hear that the bike overall has been good to you, here’s hoping mine can be just as reliable🤞
Half way expected you to chuck it in the water to begin with 😂 - nah but good looking bike, always wanted to try a Mondraker. What size did you go for? Large I assume? Any concerns with the longer geometry Mondrakers usually have?
I do like the look of mondraker and I understand your Reasons for changing motor manufacturers, shimano need get there finger out and improve Reliability Especially with Electrical problems, enjoy the new bike .
You mullet it I would change the wheel, then change brakes, put a better dropper post on,you remove the kiox display use remote,if change to hope brake, just use the brake for rear brake
Looks crackin! Nice one! I met Jamie at GT a few weeks ago - trying to sell the idea of getting an e-bike to him :). Where was that trail, the one at the end of the video?
Have you seen Sam pilgrim's canyon he had a new sponsor and they have some nice spikes but I like yours also the yellow and the terrain where you ride is always interesting. ⚡👍💯
Nice one cove. Looking forward to see how you get on with this. I ride a Mondraker Crafty normally asthmatic bike and looking at eBikes so will follow with interest.
I like the brakes tbh, tyres, not so much. Don’t know why they spec’d the harder compound. Surprised by the dropper, thought a large would take a 210mm😬
Perhaps you can make contact with Andrew Dodd (Doddy) formally of GMBN Tech as he now works with Mondraker... im sure some video together would be a great watch and perhaps widen your audience :)
@@McTrailRider no harm in asking. You have a sizable audience and even know the king after all 😆. Doddy seems a pretty approachable kind of guy so might as well let him know you joined the Mondraker club and see if it goes anywhere. Good luck if you do 🙂
I had the same experience with the EP8 it’s utter shite! Not fit for purpose!! Sold the bike lost 3k! Pissed me off to the point of vowing never to give Shitmano another penny! & putting as many others off as possible!!
@@McTrailRider every single Shimano Ep8 in the group I ride with has failed several times while all the other brands have been faultless! I’ve gone from 30 year Shimano fan boy to a hater!
Actually I clicked on this video to see if you still looked like the 60 year old that you looked like in the video the other day. What are you using for your video intros these days???
That kiosk system is usually an upgrade, but i see a few companies putting them on. Cube in particular, which they rent at my local park. They seem to have a lot of niggly issues with the system... I'd be inclined to downgrade. The Garmin 530 does al that anyways and i can cross it to another bike ( I've got 3 now 😁)
@@McTrailRider Yeah but it's nicer to have them in the bag and just ride sometimes, old school.... I put the 530 back where I can't see it when I'm on the eeber, but up front in the regular bike so I can see my heart rate. That way I'll know when I'm being soft
